Summer league also isn't completely meaningless. Lillard was co-MVP two years ago, leading a ROY campaign. For every adam Morrison there's a jeremy Lin. KO was out recruiting , Daniels was on a bench , Napier should have been playing not at the espys. I guess that's just my opinion , though it seems pretty obvious. The fact that yesterday could have been the heats last game makes his decision more questionable

I cannot even imagine what difference even someone like you thinks a single game scrimmaging against guys scrapping for contracts would make with regard to anything that ever happens to Shabazz Napier for the rest of his life unless he got catastrophically hurt or met his future wife in stands on his way to the locker room. Please, try to articulate an actual difference that playing in that game instead of going to the Espy's or having dinner with his mother or performing with his doo wop group would have made with regard to his ability to perform as a basketball player. The fact that you think it demonstrates complacency is so unbelievably insulting to Napier that it is shocking. This guy just won a national championship for our school, showed nothing but constant effort, pulling the team along with him and demonstrated a force of will as a leader of young men that is so rare that we as fans may never see it again. But you see him go the Espy's instead of playing in a summer league game and say (in public!) "See, this kid doesn't get it." Do you have any idea what a completely ridiculous person you are?

Also, I did not know it was even possible to quantitatively assess and rank Orlando summer league performances "in nba history" and yet, apparently it is not only possible, but you have seen the list. Where is that list kept? Does Mark Tatum keep the list in a briefcase handcuffed to him at all times? Can you take a picture of the list with you phone and post it here?

@DraftExpress: Shabazz Napier out in Vegas now trying to make up for his Orlando Summer league performance, where he posted the 10th worst PER of all time.

This has nothing to do with his NCAA performance , and everything to do with how out of place he looks vs nba players. I know it's probably hard for people like you who don't watch the nba to understand this. I'm not slandering his character , just would have liked to see him prove his worth as a first round pick . Not hanging out with Anthony Anderson . He has a serious uphill battle for minutes , currently sitting on third string. Any opportunity matters.

The only way to be flabbergasted by bazz's performance thus far is if you legitimately expected bazz to come in and shoot 45% and average a double double. Obviously that's a ridiculous expectation so most of us aren't surprised at his growing pains.

If he stops shooting or trying to make passes that's when I'll be worried, but that won't happen because it's motherf****m Shabazz and his confidence is endless. Maybe he'll struggle but he's gonna improve himself.

Not sure how whipping out bigboy insults like "bonetard" helps you out. What are you even arguing? that I shouldn't have said he is "okay with where he is in his pro career"? fine but that wasn't even my primary point. No if's ands or buts, he should have played to help fix a lot of wrongs going on in his game. As someone noted he looked like someone who was yanked out of the stands to play pg; getting another game (vs nba players, because the summer league is full of them FYI) would be more beneficial than going to a meaningless awards show. fact

What does that mean, it wasn't your primary point? The sole point of your post was to criticize him for not playing in a single summer league game because you inexplicably think it would have helped "fix a lot of wrongs going on in his game". The insult to his character was your way of pointing out to the messageboard audience that you know better than he (or the folks in the Heat organization who gave him the night off) what his priorities as a professional basketball player should be, which is both comical and embarrassing. Do you think that at some point in this single summer league game Napier would have been knocked down by Deandre Liggins, and while on the ground shaken up, the ghost of Red Auerbach would appear and tell him "You need to let the game come to you, son" and Napier would get up, steal the ball on the next play, make a no look pass for the assist and then look up in the bleachers and see Ghost Red smoking his cigar while giving Napier the thumbs up before fading away and then Frank Gaines would ask "Hey, Shabazz, what are you looking at?" and Napier would say "Nothing, just thought I saw an old friend."?

That you persist in defending this absurd point as if it is obvious to any rational person makes me worried about the fact that you're probably licensed to drive a motor vehicle.

Playing in another summer league game would have helped him get used to nba level comp, something he is far far away from. Maybe you are unaware but this is what SL is for, its pretty valuable. rest of your post is posturing nonsense .

James, you must have known that chastising Bazz here, after he won us a national championship would not be taking to well.

But your saying 1 game could be the difference? Obviously Pat Riley didn't think so. But I don't personally know you or Pat, maybe you know more than him about the NBA.

Summer league teams routinely rotate days off so they can manage minutes for 8-10 guys a night and not 12 or more. They likely just built that in as an off day for Bazz a long time ago. Nobody knew he'd be struggling, but not sure that would have mattered anyway.

There's an entire training camp and preseason to come even before stuff starts counting for real, so one day of pick up hoops in practice jerseys isn't going to sway his career in either direction. He clearly needs to start playing better at some point, but there will be plenty of chances - even if that means he rides the bench for a while and takes advantage of an opportunity for extended playing time in January (hopefully making some shots and not throwing the ball over the gym when the offense has more structure). But, if you look at recent history, Kemba came in during a lockout year without a real preseason, and his whole first season was a disaster, but he overcame it. As long as Bazz doesn't take the Marcus Williams approach and get fat and challenge for the league lead in shots per minute as a backup point guard, he'll be fine.

I wonder if he even read the article he referenced. The correlations are fairly weak for new entrants and rookies. Not sure if he's just trolling, doesn't understand basic statistics, or has reading comprehension difficulties. The writer isn't very good at explaining correlation and I disagree with his assessment. A correlation of .463 is not going to get you published in most scientific journals unless you are stating that the correlation is weak to moderate. -.5 to .5 (negative to positive) correlation is usually backed up with other data, because that can be explained by simple 50/50 chance. Now it is rare indeed to see correlations above .8 (on either side) but those are the ones that are trustworthy, and usually can be repeated. .463? Maybe you can get it in Genesis if you know an editor, but you ain't going to any journals with a decent impact factor.

James, Shabazz is heading back to CT to run a 2 wk clinic for kids. Did he check in with you to make sure this was ok to do?! I just hope he hasn't relegated himself to doing clinics at this point in his career instead of being a productive nba player. First the ESPYs and now children's clinics?? I'm really worried about him...
 
Watched a bit of a Jazz game last night. Giff playing harder than everyone else on the court combined as to be expected.
