Mora Speaks to Courant

And every Boneyarder talking about the next coach keeps bringing up "bringing players with him" ad nauseum. (His kid's a great quarterback who would travel with him...blah blah blah.) What makes that coach any better or worse than Mora? Hate the portal, hate coaches leaving, hate conference realignment...it's where college football is.
I was pissed Mora left, sure. But it is what it is. He could have given us goodbye kisses and tweeted some perfumey smoke up our butts, but he didn't. He wants to say goodbye to the guys...will he offer some a spot at CSU? Probably, but we will want our new coach to do the same.
In the end, the guy did a better job here than I expected, especially in a pretty short time frame. A couple years of going to the Rent expecting NOT to lose? Who would have thought.
I'm not sending him a Christmas card, but I'm not hurling EffYou's at the guy, either. He did his job.
NEXT!!!
Perfectly said. Through the first five games of the ‘22 season, we continued to be on path to barely ever being able to beat anyone. And then, in the late afternoon in the mist in an empty building, we beat a Fresno State team that won MWC and beat a P-5 team in their bowl game. And that was the start of us being in a much better place.

I’m not happy he left, but what he did is within the incredibly stupid rules and morality of college sports. He left us far, far better than he found us. So NEXT is right.

Very well said.

Listen if he comes out and says "I took this job because I want to be closer to family and be closer to home" then fine I'll root for you. I understand it's a business and he doesn't have to fly back and speak to the team and press, but he's doing it. PR stunt or not, Ill give him credit for doing it at all.

He had a chance to do that. Instead he had his old roommate Hugh Millen give the job a shiv on his way out the door.

He shouldn’t be allowed on campus. We’ll hire the moving company and send him the bill.

Him talking like him has morals wanting to come give a proper goodbye.

Since him's now in the Rockies, him can take his tegridy and (use your imagination). I don't want him directly accessing our staff and players. And if him does have any tegridy left, him should heed him's own words about tampering with our commits, but we know now how full of tish him is.

Did you expect him to say I'm sorry? Haven't heard any departing coach say that. What should he have done differently besides not leaving.
I would like to accept your offer CSU and plan on doing so but as a man of integrity and principle I want to tell the young men that I have told to put their trust and faith in other face that I am moving on. I appreciate their effort and dedication to the program and once I have parted ways with my former institution I am more than happy to engage in a publicity and social media activities I may need to. Simple. He didn’t do that, he blew town on thanksgiving break, took a different job, announced it on social media and “kept everyone in the loop.” By sending out a mass text to the team.

So he insults the program on the way out, true or not (I want to compete at the highest level - what, in the Mountain West?) suggests UConn has hit a wall, and is leaving and they want to let him back on campus to speak to the players?
No, just no.

Shouldn’t be allowed step onto campus. Actually, on second thought, I’d invite him for a few friendly drinks to smooth things over and a few toasts to thank him, but have the state police waiting to pinch him for DWI the minute he leaves. But, some people think I’m vindictive.

Bottom line the players bought in to a goal, we got 95% of the way there, then were abandoned in the middle of the night via a group chat.

I suspect most of them knew he was sniffing around, but you can skin a cat a million ways. He left the team and already started poaching UConn’s recruits and players. He should not be allowed back on campus.

Pick up your stuff at the gate or we’ll ship it to you. It’s a business and you walked out of the deal. Goodbye, don’t want you to come back and chit chat. Actions speak louder than words.

We don't t have to help him do it.

TRULY middle of the night. Said he texted them "the moment the deal was done" but he seemed to get in touch with Thamel IMMEDIATELY, so they may have already been asleep if they keep strict sleep habits (which as athletes, wouldn't surprise me)

I suppose this is every players' wet dream. Miss a team meeting with zero consequences. Nothing forcing any of them, or any other coach to show up.

Go full Goodfellas and have Jim escorted in to an empty team meeting room. And then tell him he has 15 minutes to be off the campus.

Semantics... but tapering complaints he was making was regarding rostered athletes who are not officially registered in the portal, where direct communication is not allowed (and none of the folks who've posted are officially in the portal yet, as the portal window for them has not opened, under the new rules, the special window doesn't open for 5 days after the new coach is hired and lasts 15 days; it may overlap the normal window in this case for UConn).

Talking to recruits who've made a verbal commitment and trying to get them to flip, that's a practice as old as time for high school/JUCO recruits, but I'm sure that's the hair he (or any other coach) would split.

Some interesting quotes...

“I am flying back across the country (Monday) to look these men in the eye and say thanks for the work they did and the things we accomplished together.”

“I sent a group message (to players) via ‘teamworks,’ the only way to communicate with them all when scattered across country, the moment the deal was done,” Mora said. “The AD at UConn was kept in the loop the entire time. … Frankly, I did it exactly the right way, all above board, with honesty and integrity and all with the interest of the UConn players in mind.”

“I left UConn better than I found it,” Mora said, “and I handled my departure the way a man with integrity does so. … I loved my time here, we embraced it.”

1) This is probably all true.
2) Not the best idea, in that case, to allow some intern from Fort Podunk CO to take your social accounts on day 1 and AI something up.

A poor decision, but not indicative of the coach.

That's entirely up to the coach. I imagine we will allow them to play.
the coach..., the player, the players uncle bob, his agent, his next coach, and his nil sponsor

Guarantee all the players and coaches come to the meeting. It is the smart thing to do. You keep your options open.
