I'm going to give Yates a little break. He obviously got an offer during a no-contact period that was far and away better than what we could pay him. I hope it works out for him. Yes the whole thing stinks but in the long run there isn't much we can do about it except gain entrance to a P4 conference.100% agree, either stay or go, but leveraging the program so that you can get a better payday is garbage. Money talks and b@lls*#t walks.
Maybe I should cut him some slack. A day later and I’m less emotional about it, but it still feels so dirty.I'm going to give Yates a little break. The financial disparity between P4 and G5 is impossible to overcome. The G5's will become more or less feeder systems for P4's and eventually the G5 will morph into its own division with its own playoff. Exactly the way the P4's want it, and they are making the rules. Heaven forbid that they share a playoff spot with a Boise State.
Speaking about lashing out >>>>>>>>>>>Or are you just mad you had to point at yourself and say "ha ha" like your namesake
May have been here..................UConn is in a really difficult situation. I am 100% behind Coach Mora and his intentions. However, it's rare that coaches are actually calling out other programs. Calling out any program in the ACC or Big 12 can only hurt UConn. It's almost as if we just have to play ball here. We're not holding any cards here. They got them all so they call the shots. The transfer portal does work both ways after all.
Hmmm, where exactly was Belichick during the game...
You're probably right on with this theory. Look at Timberlake last year in basketball. Had to know he had no future in the NBA so he took the best offer and it was Kansas..........good for those crooks to eat a big payoff that failed.Unfortunately, the Yates situation is becoming the new normal. When he went into the portal the first time, he was coming off injury and he did not have a good year so his options were limited and he recommitted to UConn. Then, he has a good bowl game and, it appears, an offer came in.
Yates may or may not have an NFL future, so this is his opportunity to make money from football and I don't begrudge him that. Over the long term, I think he will regret how he handled this situation, but financially, it's probably a good decision for him.
We don't have to like it, but it's the current reality.
Just FYI, practically everything you post has answers on Storrs Central. I don’t know if you pay for it or not, but it’s well worth the money.Let's find a way to keep him at UConn, like we should with Skyler Bell.
ZooCougar liked your post. Now you know you are wrong.
I didn't say anything of the sort by the way. I said something along the lines of your argument about it be a 2024 version of the Chicago BlackSox scandal was weird and off-base. But mostly I just made fun.
this feels like something we could prosecute under RICO - the 5 families are behind this, i'm sure.My alma mater is in the middle of a playoff run and we have had multiple kids approached with rumors of crazy offers. Our backup QB secured himself a 7-figure deal during the week leading up to the opening round. Deal was done by agents and communicated through intermediaries at a facility that he works out at during the off season back home.
For chrissakes can you both stop mucking up this thread for the rest of us?You made a driveby, cheap shot post that needed to misrepresent what I was saying to even have a coherent position, and I pointed out that the position you took would mean that you are defending the integrity and honor of college sports. Then you resorted to ad hominem attacks which is an admission that you lost.
A friend from Nashville called me yesterday to fawn over how good UConn looked in the Fenway Bowl so the old saying must be true...........any publicity is good publicity. A win over a depleted P4 is still a win especially when done so convincingly!Love to see UConn Football as a lead story on National Publications.
Regardless of how it turns out, our profile from winning the bowl and how other teams are trying to poach our players, this is good PR for our Program.
We are on the rise!
And for those who thought the bowl game wasn’t a big deal, the rest of college football got a reminder today that we knocked off a Power 4 school!

And yet he's not the problem but another symbol of the larger problem of what this system incentivizes. There will be a lot of collateral damage if it's not managed correctly. I think mostly in the coaching ranks but it's going to pit Universities directly against each other. There will be plenty of hard feelings to go around. If you love the drama and your side keeps "winning" then it's great. But a lot of oeople just want to enjoy the games and the atmosphere of collegiate athletics. Not a bunch of mercenaries running around with mixed up priorities. He’s replaceable too, he’s got some serious nerve.
The P4 and especially the P2 will just laugh at UConn. They can lie and explain away any malfeasance. Other G5 programs are in the same boat but don't seem to be saying anything. I'm not sure saying something will help keep players. The system is full steam ahead and everyone is chasing $$. I agree with Coach Mora's sentiment, I'm just not sure it's going to be effective, especially if everyone is out there tampering.Saying nothing means you lose, players. This an arm race and he has an underpowered engine due to not being in a power 4 conference. He wants to win and play fair and I have no issue with it at all
I think Mora went public with this because he is respected and not worried about his next job, he just wants the right thing to be done. As everyone has said on here, it’s a wild west right now. It will stay that way if everyone stays quiet. I give him credit for trying to drive change. The P4 and especially the P2 will just laugh at UConn. They can lie and explain away any malfeasance. I think Dan Hurley told him to go publicI think he said something just to let people know that he's aware of what's going on
and doing and saying nothing will get UConn nowhere. I root for UConn and don't care if they laugh. I want an somewhat even playing field which it is not.The P4 and especially the P2 will just laugh at UConn. They can lie and explain away any malfeasance. I read Michigan is calling on Bell. I know they had a lackluster season, but they did beat Alabama in their bowl game and it's Michigan which is hard to beat when it comes to sheer history and pedigree.Let's find a way to keep him at UConn, like we should with Skyler Bell.
Exactly. I guarantee every coach in college football knows this is going on, but a lot are probably too worried about causing waves with the "blue bloods" of their conferences. They don't say anything because they don't want to lose out on the sweet conference TV money so they just sit there and shut up.Saying nothing means you lose, players. This an arm race and he has an underpowered engine due to not being in a power 4 conference. He wants to win and play fair and I have no issue with it at all
And we can't forget that our former so-called rock star, Warde Manuel, is AD at Michigan now..I read Michigan is calling on Bell. I know they had a lackluster season, but they did beat Alabama in their bowl game and it's Michigan which is hard to beat when it comes to sheer history and pedigree.
So true. I bet it's driven conversation in parts unknown. You get a phony smirkmeister like Berry Tramel saying something like, "Who the hell is poaching UConn players?" Then they look it up and see Auburn, BYU, Michigan...Low-key a master class in public relations by Jim Mora.
