Love to see UConn Football as a lead story on National Publications.

Regardless of how it turns out, our profile from winning the bowl and how other teams are trying to poach our players, this is good PR for our Program.

We are on the rise!

And for those who thought the bowl game wasn’t a big deal, the rest of college football got a reminder today that we knocked off a Power 4 school!

ZooCougar liked your post. Now you know you are wrong.
I didn't say anything of the sort by the way. I said something along the lines of your argument about it be a 2024 version of the Chicago BlackSox scandal was weird and off-base. But mostly I just made fun.

You made a driveby, cheap shot post that needed to misrepresent what I was saying to even have a coherent position, and I pointed out that the position you took would mean that you are defending the integrity and honor of college sports. Then you resorted to ad hominem attacks which is an admission that you lost.

My alma mater is in the middle of a playoff run and we have had multiple kids approached with rumors of crazy offers. Our backup QB secured himself a 7-figure deal during the week leading up to the opening round. Deal was done by agents and communicated through intermediaries at a facility that he works out at during the off season back home.
this feels like something we could prosecute under RICO - the 5 families are behind this, i'm sure.

A friend from Nashville called me yesterday to fawn over how good UConn looked in the Fenway Bowl so the old saying must be true...........any publicity is good publicity. A win over a depleted P4 is still a win especially when done so convincingly!

Yates may or may not have an NFL future, so this is his opportunity to make money from football and I don't begrudge him that. Over the long term, I think he will regret how he handled this situation, but financially, it's probably a good decision for him.

I do not think he has the quickness to play DE in the NFL. I would be curious at the uplift he will receive in NIL.

He’s replaceable too, he’s got some serious nerve.
And yet he's not the problem but another symbol of the larger problem of what this system incentivizes. There will be a lot of collateral damage if it's not managed correctly. I think mostly in the coaching ranks but it's going to pit Universities directly against each other. There will be plenty of hard feelings to go around. If you love the drama and your side keeps "winning" then it's great. But a lot of oeople just want to enjoy the games and the atmosphere of collegiate athletics. Not a bunch of mercenaries running around with mixed up priorities.

Saying nothing means you lose, players. This an arm race and he has an underpowered engine due to not being in a power 4 conference. He wants to win and play fair and I have no issue with it at all
The P4 and especially the P2 will just laugh at UConn. They can lie and explain away any malfeasance. Other G5 programs are in the same boat but don't seem to be saying anything. I'm not sure saying something will help keep players. The system is full steam ahead and everyone is chasing $$. I agree with Coach Mora's sentiment, I'm just not sure it's going to be effective, especially if everyone is out there tampering.

I think Mora went public with this because he is respected and not worried about his next job, he just wants the right thing to be done. As everyone has said on here, it’s a wild west right now. It will stay that way if everyone stays quiet. I give him credit for trying to drive change.

I think he said something just to let people know that he's aware of what's going on

and doing and saying nothing will get UConn nowhere. I root for UConn and don't care if they laugh. I want an somewhat even playing field which it is not.

Let's find a way to keep him at UConn, like we should with Skyler Bell.
I read Michigan is calling on Bell. I know they had a lackluster season, but they did beat Alabama in their bowl game and it's Michigan which is hard to beat when it comes to sheer history and pedigree.

Exactly. I guarantee every coach in college football knows this is going on, but a lot are probably too worried about causing waves with the "blue bloods" of their conferences. They don't say anything because they don't want to lose out on the sweet conference TV money so they just sit there and shut up.

And we can't forget that our former so-called rock star, Warde Manuel, is AD at Michigan now..

If Mora was gonna mention any names he would've done it already. As a former broadcaster with Fox and ESPN he knows exactly what he's doing and good. If a tweet defending your program isn't gonna get you into a conference then you weren't gonna into a conference to begin with.

Low-key a master class in public relations by Jim Mora.

Cap off a historic nine win season in a local bowl with a win against a brand-name opponent who you also happen to be smashing on the hardwood, then go on social media and air out a fiery tweet that everyone agrees with, but no one else has outright said. The commentators like Dick Vitale retweet it and anyone in the comments talking trash about UConn football is immediately called a casual and mocked for not respecting our nine win season.

Dude is 60+ years old and crushing social media. I love it.

What happens to these program jumping guys when their money runs out ? I doubt if many ever graduate. Especially the ones that end up going to 3 different schools. Is academics / credit transfer even in play any more ?

Like I said, I support Coach Mora 100% and I trust he knows what he is doing. Maybe his tweet has a positive or negative effect or maybe it does nothing. Maybe I feel like we are still blackballed by the events surrounding the ACC ripping the Big East apart.

I am personally sick and tired of college football laughing at UConn for no good reason so I do care about that. It's the single biggest reason we are not in the Big 12 right now; misperceptions. We know the playing field isn't remotely close to being level given the conference payouts so attacking something which some believe to be so pervasive right now likely wouldn't make a dent in leveling the field. And if programs want to tamper, it seems like it would be very easy to tamper and get your message across to players using unofficial channels. I am all for fighting for what is right and protecting UConn but UConn is the last independent football program needing to find a conference home and it needs to be able to play ball with everyone.

I'm curious what people think about the tweet and the program it is directed at. Does the conference affiliation matter? Is the tweet fine if it is a P2 program? P4 program?

It's probably a multitude of programs but I'd be willing to bet every program around the country is the victim of at least some tampering, and Mora isn't the first to criticize.

The school may or may not pursue the offenders privately but the point of Mora's tweet was to draw attention. It was a clever way to say that the new UConn is serious and that Mora is a committed coach. The tweet went mega viral as expected in CFB circles and garnered us a lot of attention right after our Bowl win. Genius play

Would likely come down to what playing time looks like along with the payday. He left the B1G to come here, so he's familiar with what playing in the B1G entails. Can he get major playing time at UM along with the payday or is he going to be a good receiver in a rotation of equally good receivers. Because here, he is the standout and WR1. Also, Michigan is searching for a QB that can throw. So another uncertainty to deal with.
