MNT's 2024

Sure it's for a medal and all, but the tournament isn't serious if countries can't send their best. FIFA gutted it to protect the WC. Qualifying is more important than winning it with a u23 B squad + washed up center backs

It’s a typical USA performance. Get drilled against better competition, drill minnows like NZ.

That’s how you know Berhalter had to go, he struggled against Panama and only scored 2 on Bolivia.

Yes, we got drilled by France because of some poor goal keeping and defensive lapses. But in the attacking 3rd we actually had some great scoring opportunities.

What are we trying to prove in Paris?
It's good to get the younger guys some tournament games/experience. Last time we were in the Olympics, we got quite a few guys from there to the full NT.

Who in the squad has a shot at making the NT for World Cup and the next cycle?
Yow looked good today, Tessman, Paredes, maybe Booth? I don't follow the YNT too much

First time advancing in 25 years, nice. If they can squeak out a medal, it would be our first for the mens side.

We won both bronze and silver in 1900
Only 3 teams entered two from the US so it’s not much of an accomplishment but i think competition rather than winning was the original objective. .
Im trying to figure out why only 3 teams
was it because it was strictly amateurs or lack of interest .

Probably a little of both. They had a hard time starting up the World Cup also. Not too many European nations were interested.

Correcttion That was 1904 not 1900 and it was in St Louis who had the games and the world fair
A Canadian men’s Club team won the Gold
a number of teams backed out and a couple of local teams of younger guys maybe even HS filled in to have a round Robin . But they did receive medals

Well, the mens soccer team just had a major debacle in the semifinal against Moracco. At least the kits looked good.

Morocco is just much better than the USA. The ref wasn't overly helpful with the PKs. Ok, probably the first one, but that second should never be called. But they were still soundly beaten.

Morocco took best available U23s. We didn't. Can't take a whole lot from this tournament. I suppose this is the end of the national team line for Zimmerman, Djordjie and Robinson. I wanted to see more Taylor Booth in the 2nd half.
I suppose the question will be who from this particular group has a shot at making the real MNT squad in the future?

I honestly thought this would be a good game, but after that first goal, nope

Any progress on the coaching front?

All I've heard are names that have turned it down. (but not sure how accurate those rumors/reports are)

Starting to lean towards someone with international experience over just a former top league coach. Getting guys on-board and sorting their club situations is more of a hill for a non-USSF candidate.
