And Ben Gold did absolutely jack. Didn’t even feel like he played.
Ben Gould didn’t worry me before this game.. Yeah he is 6 10 but he plays small which allowed UConn to switch 1-5 on defense. Gould is one trick pony,, strictly a 3 pt shooter, like an Isaac Troudt.

We can get a lot better. Solo mentioned in his postgame interviews how the coaches have been on him to rebound more. 2 double doubles in a row. Alex had 2 blocks to lead the team. He has been great at blocks all year. His 3 will return but he has to keep driving it. Samcon Alex and Solo did not miss a free throw. Samson was in the high 40s last year and is now in the 70s. Huge game coming Friday night. Going to be tough and a madhouse. !

12/19 from 3, let's just think about that. if you take 20 shots at 50% that's 20 points. UConn had 36 points on 19 trifectas. Insane. UConn only shot 7/22 from three against Depaul and 7/26 against X. I was never a big fan of the three because of this exact reason. The team who played maybe not as wll can win because of the three. Hot shooters. No gameplan will say "OK let's go out and shoot 64% from three" but tonight it saved UConn.

Really can’t believe they won that game without McNeeley. Wow. Didn’t see all of it so I need a rewatch in the morning. My sense is, everybody stepped up. Every player was better than they were the last few games. Maybe not Reed. Huge.

I don’t mind AK shooting the three when in the flow of the offense. He scored a three when they moved the ball very crisply to the open man.

Sometimes he takes threes that are too deep and early like he shot and missed against Marquette.

Solo Ball is an NBA player, enjoy him now.

Ross had his best game of the season at the best time. Bet he becomes a dude down the road.

Reed was fouled multiple times on his misses, think he played an underrated game.

Everyone wants to talk down on Alex when he struggles, 15 on 8 shots, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and blocks. All American performance for the Cap.

Just one negative. We need a backup point guard, Diarra was dying out there today, and we couldn't keep him off the floor. Nowells injury might be our achilles heel since Diarra will have to rest once he starts fasting.

Shaka’s defensive game plan on AK was wild. Even when he set a screen and tried to flare out of it to the wing, they were grabbing a handful of jersey so he couldn’t disengage. Shaka is just made for the BE and the way this league calls games. Every MU game I watch, I understand why he didn’t make it at Texas. This style just doesn’t play nearly as well outside of the BE.
Some would say it worked well in the CAA too. Maybe even Final 4 working well.

our biggest handicap this year personnel wise. Infuriating that we can’t get 10 mpg between Mahaney and Nowell.

Gus was infinitely better than Donny or most of the other announcers we’ve had. I’d say almost better than anyone else than Raf.
I almost turned the sound off. He’s a play-by-play guy trying to do color.

Good call on AK. People have been down on him but I thought he played solid D all game. Also had four huge plays in the second half with that 3, lefty finish off the glass, prayer jumper at the end of the shot clock, and then a great feed to Samson for an and-1. He’s never going to be the all-American some think he should be, but he is still an excellent glue guy and fantastic 2nd or third option. Just wish he’d stop with his straight on drives into traffic. He legit gets stripped nine times out of ten.

We saw tonight that we can play without Diarra or Mahaney’s on the court. That will be easier when Liam comes back.

I like Samson, Karaban, McNeeley, Ross and Ball as a potential go too defensive line up. Ross can cover anyone 1 through 3.

Ball is rebounding. This is the most excited I have been about this team this year.

Mahaney may have to really fight for PT when Liam returns.

I hope I am wrong about when he is going to come back. That hug between him and AK at the end of the game was a we got through it buddy, let’s have a good week of practice and get ready for St Johns.

What a great win!!!

Good post.

I honestly always thought Solo or Stewart could handle SOME handling duties. It seems Hurley allowed it today out of necessity, as opposed to earlier in the year.

As for Ball, I feel like his hot shooting AND getting more and more game time has led to much more comfort attacking and finishing. When you’re the most dangerous shooter on the floor, it should open up plenty of attack lanes.

He’s still got plenty to go, but I originally thought he could be special because of his athleticism and good shooting, in that order.

Now he’s an INSANE shooter, so if he develops a decent finishing package he’s a top 15 pick.

Reed played ok, and if he made his free throws I’d be even happier.
