I still can’t believe UConn lost to St. John’s. That is such a brutal loss. UConn would still be in the mix for a 2 seed if they hadn’t lost that game.

SJU isn't horrible (99 NET) but it was a home game which makes it bad.

Aside from DePaul, all Q1 and Q2 games left for UConn. Going to be a fun stretch.

This was glorious. What a fascinating team. Honestly. at its best, nobody is better. Let’s hope that this is a reminder of how to play and how much fun it is to play this way. They got very bounce, made every shot they needed. It was just astonishingly clutch. Everybody contributed. What a wonderful win.

Luckily, they had enough quality wins in the bank it can be overlooked. Weird season for sure but when we are good we are really really good. Like play into the third weekend of the tourney good.

Definitely, but Newton has attributed his recent play to how horrible he was in that game (said something to the effect of needing to change things up as it relates to game prep), so maybe it was a necessary evil #spinzone

I think a few guys clarified their roles. Growing pains. I’m hopeful we look like this for the rest of this year. A couple small issues to tighten up, and time to do it right.

Great win. UConn is starting to play BE basketball. They had the talent but needed to match the physicality. Just playing physical won't do it. You still need to take advantage of the talent (FG>50%). That is what we are beginning to do, and we saw that tonight.

We returned every punch. Overcame every poor call (non-call). Countered every opposing coaching strategy. We have it in us. We just need to go out and do it every time out.

That game and our collapse against SH are what are keeping us from a potential #1 seed. The other losses are all very forgivable.

Great game tonight, and was really a fan of Hurley’s substitutions. This is the rotation we need to continue going forward.

Only negative was turnovers, especially when force feeding the post.

Really impressed with the defense. It has to be the new standard going forward.

Not sure we’ve ever had a team that can be the best in the country when playing to their potential in half their games, and fringe top 25 on the other half their games. The former version has me giddy - keep it coming at the right time now

What an outstanding game they played tonight. Kept their foot on the gas pedal once they got up around 20 and Marquette could never make a serious dent in the lead all 2nd half. Props all around.

We look like we’ve officially turned the corner after this game.

Newton coming on is huge and even Andre looks like he’s officially learned his role in the offense. He’s now cutting to the rim every time his man leaves him and just attacking in general. No more standing on the 3 point line and he was very impactful on that end today.

Karaban had made the leap defensively too and it looks like it’s going to let Andre guard PGs which will be hell for them.

Adama is slinging the rock out there too with the passing!

This is actually quite scary. Marquette is one of the absolute best in the country at turning teams over, so maybe it’s a one off thing. But if it’s not corrected, it can be our undoing - and was in our losing stretch.

Quite frankly, the biggest difference between the 2 teams was 3-point shooting:

UConn - 12-23, 52%
Marquette - 5-21, 24%

It’s hard to maintain consistent 3-point shooting unless you have a lot of 3-point shooters, which we don’t. Tonight 11 of our 12 3’s were made by 3 guys, one of whom was Alleyne and he’s not normally in the picture. We outscored them by 21 on 3’s in a game which we won by 15 points. They made only five 3’s on which they shot just 24%.

On a more normal night n we don’t have such an enormous advantage in 3-point scoring, those turnovers would put us in serious trouble.

We must get the turnovers under control if we’re going to be successful the rest of the way.

Yup and Butler just beat them. That loss to St. John’s is like a pebble in my shoe that I can’t get rid of.
