Absolutely. He was key tonight and the missing link. Hawkins, Karaban & Newton scoring with our strong rebounding make us NC contenders-again.Newton is the key.
Well saidThere were so many key things that fed this win
- Alleyne had his best game of the season, on D and on O
- Newton handled the pressure well, drove the ball, found open people (who hit the shots) and helped tremendously on the boards
- Karaban was his usual, unselfish, high BBIQ self, being in the right place and hitting shots.
- Sanogo wasn't a black hole, made some shots but also found open shooters, including that sweet dime to Alleyne on the back cut
- Jackson could play his game because of better player and ball movement, so his guy couldn't just track the ball and double. And he made some incredible plays on the boards.
- Getting them in a little early foul trouble in the 1st half helped. And we didn't foul much except the final 3 minutes of that 1st half.
- This was a 25 point win if Clingan didn't miss some of his bunnies and free throws. He'll get it, and when he does, wow.
- Hawkins. Just, Hawkins.
Fingers crossed the VT version of Alleyne is back and here to stay. That version is a great piece to have coming off the bench.I've been waiting for this Alleyne game all year. The biggest game and he was a stud. Love that dude
Yes! And Adama still is so effective without thatWe started winning since (among a few things) we stopped force-feeding the post up.
Tonight Alleyne was the difference between a five point win and the final result. Way to go Nahiem!
More than 1 “let’s see what happens Tuesday” poster conveniently not around tonight.3 pages in..
Where are the whiners, complainers, pissers, and moaners?
Had this conversation on the way to the game. That loss was so bad for us.I still can’t believe UConn lost to St. John’s. That is such a brutal loss. UConn would still be in the mix for a 2 seed if they hadn’t lost that game.
It would be depression@JustbrewitMan this thread would be 12 pages right now if it was an L.

Luckily, they had enough quality wins in the bank it can be overlooked. Weird season for sure but when we are good we are really really good. Like play into the third weekend of the tourney good.Had this conversation on the way to the game. That loss was so bad for us.
Definitely, but Newton has attributed his recent play to how horrible he was in that game (said something to the effect of needing to change things up as it relates to game prep), so maybe it was a necessary evil #spinzoneHad this conversation on the way to the game. That loss was so bad for us.
I think a few guys clarified their roles. Growing pains. I’m hopeful we look like this for the rest of this year. A couple small issues to tighten up, and time to do it right.About time. Where has this group been? Great win period.
Don't count on seeing Sampson. What's up with Sampson? Not many available minutes for him.
