I don’t understand how people think UConn football is worth remotely close to a million a year on its own. SNY wanted UConn football but they didn’t wanna pay an additional 250-300 k a year on top of women’s basketball. We get 250 k in football to start, production costs covered, national tv. Can go to any bar in the country and watch them play and not have to go watch it on an iPad. Coaches can tell recruits they will be on national tv every game. There is just so much to like. UConn will get 250-300 k, no production costs, better home and home opponents. I’m thrilled. Idc about the money.

I don’t think that all these SNY rumors were by mistake. I imagine They were a smokescreen put out by the AD to get a better deal with CBSSN. Or maybe I just really want to think AD David Benedict is that good.

I’m thrilled with the CBS sports news...

About valuation - I think if you can attempt any quick crude comparison it’s to the new MTW deal which if I recall was about 3.5MM for school for both football and basketball. If you net out a generous 1MM value on BB you get a net football number of 2.5MM. Meanwhile if the MAC is 800k and CUSA & SunBelt sub 400k, then where should we land?

Really? IDK- I think when we started we had just SNY to seriously talk too and then over time momentum built up with CBS. The quotes today pretty much said CBS started entraining this idea once Benedict had a good schedule going.

I bet the remaining games yet to be announced were contingent on this national linear TV deal and vice versa.

The contract is for more than 250k a year. Unless the article is wrong, it says "Financial specifics weren’t available, but the CBS Sports deal, which is OVER seven figures for the four years, will benefit UConn in ways similar to the average of deals in place for teams in conferences such as Conference USA, the MAAC and Mountain West."

I think if we make around 300 k with a national broadcast and production taken care of then it’s a fair deal. Especially when you factor in travel savings across the athletic department and buy games. I like this deal. We are making much more than NMSU and UMass on a better network. Start winning and make more the next time the deal ends
 
Why are we even talking about SNY? I don’t think there is any debate that the CBS deal is a better deal. Once CBSSN entered the picture with national coverage, game over for SNY. DB has delivered the best case scenario for independent football with scheduling and tv. Now, it’s up to the coaching staff to recruit and win. I am jacked!

Congrats, Huskies! Your AD has done a great job over the past 12-18 months.

I wish other schools in the Northeast like Cuse were as forward looking. Or BC. But no one likes them. I’d be just as happy with a BU or Northeastern who cared about basketball. The era of eastern independents in FBS was awesome and I’m sure UCONN could thrive in such an arrangement. Alas...

I’m looking forward to regular games again, hopefully this coming season. Stay safe.

Anthony should have written "which is INTO THE seven figures for four years". By writing over, he meant over the million dollar mark.

You don't seriously think the deal is into the tens of millions, do you?

I think SNY’s mindset was they were accommodating football to preserve their basketball relationship. UConn needed something more football centric. I do think SNY does a really nice all around job but this is national and covers our recruiting footprint and will support the recruiting Grind Chief talks about.

My last post was addressing the comments of 250k, according to the article we can expect more. Whether that is 1.5 mil or 4, I don't know but from the language it looks like more than 1 mil over 4 years.

Now, do I expect 10s of millions, no, not at all. Could it be 10 mil over 4 years, maybe. Again, according to the article it could be a deal about average to what teams in other conferences receive. One of the conferences mentioned is the Mountain West. Their contract was for 6 years at 270 mil, 45 mil per year, 3.75 mil per team. Throw in the monies from the other conferences mentioned and average it out and 2.5 mil isn't to far fetched. I know the MW numbers include other sports.

Trust me, I'd be estactic with that deal or better because it's not what I was expecting. With all the hoops DB has had to jump thru I'm pleased something is done, a foundation set to build on. At the same time, I'd be disappointed in 250k per, maybe so even at 500k. Could it all be pie in the sky? Sure, but come on man, I'm having fun, enjoying the news and pointing out pieces of the article I hadn't seen anyone else highlight. Be easy and dream big. We'll digest the numbers when they are out, whatever they may be, and move on.

At the end of the day, this really comes down to UConn selling this deal to recruits and getting better as program. Sell the schedule, the facilities, the academics, and the TV deal. No paywall, cable TV. This deal offers the flexibility to come to new terms in 4 years, something the AAC cannot do until 2032. Get better, get more money in 2023. Being good in MBB & FB simultaneously like from 08-12 would do wonders for the AD and university. No excuse for this team to be bad anymore.

You don't know any of that.. it's not wise to speculatively disparage SNY and that goes for everyone on here, not to single you out.. SNY could've offered the same deal as CBSSN (or better) but AD David Benedict solely liked the appeal of being on a more widely distributed network.

If I were to guess SNY was motivated by their belief that they were the sole bidder and therefore could set the price. Let’s face it, football is not exactly setting the world on fire right now and viewership is uncertain. Locking into a relationship with UConn football is a futures bet. It’s only worth the risk if you can get it low enough.

I suspect the benefit of CBSSN deal, at least from Connecticut’s perspective, is more exposure than revenue than at this time. It is a statement to recruits and potential opponents that independence was a power move by Connecticut not a retreat. It’s a good deal and I’m glad we’ve got it. If we win and if our viewership is solid, then the next iteration will be worth more on a per game basis.

If I were a betting man, I'd suggest the one downside to this announcement is the lack of hard numbers. That ambiguity will probably turn in to 4 pages of posters debating what "over seven figures" means.
