Mahaney enters the portal…

He was playing the position Hurley recruited him for.
Yeah but that was clearly not the right position and Hurley admitted it during the season that is was like fitting square peg in round hole with putting Mahaney at PG. Unfortunately he had no choice as Nowell wasn't an effective backup.

I don’t think the criticism is necessarily that AM wasn’t good, it was that he wasn’t good AND he was making a good chunk of change to not be good based on his rumored NIL package. You want to get paid like a star, you better BE a star. IMO anyway.
Just another reminder that NIL isn't for on court performance...

While you are correct, without the existence of performance or the promise of it, the vast majority of players would not being in a position to earn NIL money.

That seems like a pretty dope place to be for senior year. Wishing him the best of luck.
If you haven’t seen the campus lagoon up close you haven’t lived. Magical city.

Good luck to Aidan - hopefully he finds a place that feels like home.

Solo ball had no problem running point when called upon to do, so and that wasn’t his natural position. There is a difference between not being a great pg and not being able to bring the ball up the court turning it around over. Everyone thought the floor of missing on that position change for Mahaney was much higher than it ended up being. It is more than just the position change. He just never looked comfortable at UConn. I think he will play much better in a different environment.

Solo Ball never really played PG for us. He brought the ball up a few times but barely initiated the offense. He almost always had Diarra, Mahaney or Nowell playing PG. I mean if your deseription of PG is bringing up the ball then Ross played PG too. LOL! Hurley amitted it wasn't his natural position he is more a creator that can play with a natural PG. Mahney was pretty sucessful against big clubs before but he wasn't asked to be the main intiator of a complex offense from playing in St. Mary's.

Cali kid returning home for his senior year. I expect him to flourish in that conference and have a great year. UCSB has an excellent academic reputation to help solidify Aidan's post BB career opportunities. SB isn't a bad place to hang out and chill by the beach on days off from BB practice. Wish him well.

I don’t entirely agree.

The last few games he looked good - sharp and effective. When he was putting up 10 pts a game and not turning the ball over - we looked markedly better.

People (not you in particular) like to make these sweeping summaries but fact is - his time here was nuanced - more to the story than he as good/bad….

I wish he had stayed but wish him well!

Well... I was one of the last to find this out... I had been checking 247 Sports' portal list daily, and the last thing on Aidan is STILL the news that Aidan was transferring out, no new place yet.

Meanwhile, On3 is up to date, and I understood these two sites shared info. Apparently not.

I heard about it from the NorCalPreps high-school fan forum, maybe an hour or two ago.

Anyway, I'll be watching out for UCSB's schedule along with watching UConn... and SMC. But most importanly to me, going to high-school games.
