From what I’ve seen that is the one down side - he really hasn’t spent a ton of time in his career actually recruiting high school kids BUT he brings credibility to the table of putting kids into NFL and he has coached some incredible talent along the way (College/NFL) that will open doors. Most boots on the ground recruiting is done by the positions coaches anyways so I’m not that concerned.

That’s my hope. We desperately need to improve recruiting, so hoping that Coach Spanos sells his credential on the recruiting trail and hits it with intensity.

I sound like a broken record but the ONLY way this team climbs back is by significantly improving the talent. Doesn’t matter how good you are at scheming a defense.
 
I am impressed by the hire. Could he bring a couple of high school seniors from Alabama, Texas, Fla. etc. with him before he moves to Storrs?
 
Does anyone know how he did as a coordinator at UCLA? I like the 'Bama connection but not crazy about the "analyst" role. Think if some other G5 team got excited to get the the current Oklahoma defensive analyst as their new DC without really looking at the body of work...

Well, all I can say is I hope so. But in true UConn fashion come August we'll have the schedule posted and a see the smattering of 6-6, 7-5 records attached with "can't be any worse".

It doesn't really matter, does it? Teams run sub packages 80% of the time. The biggest change Spanos can bring is technique and philosophy. Are his defenses read/react or attacking? How much cushion on the edge? Zone or man?

I'm ecstatic.... When he was in Pittsburgh, that defense was nasty good :) and when in UCLA they where way better after he got there. LOVE THIS HIRE 1000000^1000000 time

OH and the Alabama thing just takes it to the next level.... that is best place to pull from, can't believe we got one from that coaching staff

Profound Trauma (Vegetative vagal/parasympathetic shut down.) Repeated mental trauma will completely shut down an individual until they feel no emotional stake in the things that happen around them. This shut down condition is called dissociation. While the brain continues to respond in minimal ways, the individual may no longer recognize that they are present or that these events (game day) are happening to them.

It's probably for the best. Hopefully healing can begin next season.
 
I hear some who question his ability to recruit - but does he have to?
Can't he a RE2 sit down and Spanos give RE2 an idea of what type of player he wants and RE2 goes out there to close the deal or maybe RE2 gives Spanos tape and he uses his analyst skills to say yeah or NEXT?
Some guys are great at coaching tactics and techniques and have less than stellar people skills - that's fine - stick the salesmen on the recruits
From what I am reading - this is a damn good get for RE2 - but I have no knowledge of his coaching ability but seems to have success attached to a lot of his gigs
