Correct, which is why the Big 12 should invite us. They get us and destroy the Boston Mark for the ACC - this would be good for them with less media competition in these markets!

When we're talking about the Big 12 there doesn't need to be any context. Like half of the states where Big 12 schools are located have low populations so being one of the fastest growing states in the country makes a big difference for a school like Boise when it comes to gaining potential membership.

You keep celebrating every bit of bad news for non-P2 conferences. Two things you need to remember:

1) college sports could hit a tipping point of shrinking market size where enough schools are cut out that no one, including P2 fans, care about it.

2) if you are right, and fans consolidate to fans of just 2 conferences, it won’t be long before the P2 becomes the P1. Who do you think survives? The SEC or Big 10?

So now your argument is Connecticut fans pack MSG, they are the only Connecticut fans in the New York area? Seriously? Lol, did this sound good in your head before you actually typed it out? Are you aware that when Connecticut rejoined the big east the cost of tickets on the aftermarket shot up precipitously? Are you aware that St. John's and Seton Hall jack up the prices of the Connecticut game annually. Often it's cheaper to buy season tickets than just get the Connecticut game. Do you understand the market forces that are necessary to have that kind of impact on pricing?

Seriously, if you're going to try to troll, just spend five minutes on Google and try to learn something about us.

Not all 8 million are sports fans... Until the denominator is known you are both in a gray area of partial speculation. But bickering is a good look, so keep at it.

They were probably happy that they were able to replace UMass with UConn next year. The fact that they seek UConn games on their schedule suggests they might not oppose our entry to the ACC. I think they know the ACC is in trouble and anything that strengthens it will help preserve the goose that's been laying golden eggs for them.

The sense I get from BC alumni is that now that DeFilippo is gone, they recognize the error. In trying to be the only game in town, they wound up reducing interest in the programs. UConn in the ACC would boost BC and Syracuse both. This should have been obvious, even then (See Auburn and Alabama, Texas and A&M. USC and UCLA etc.), but Gene wanted to put an end UConn FBS aspirations. Local rivals increase overall interest in the sport and drive greater passion.

As I'm very confident that you've already realized, Rufus is a self appointed shill for the B1G and has so little meaning in his life that he feels compelled to come to a message board for a school he has no connection to for the sole purpose of informing us about the stature of the B1G. What makes this even sadder is that he most likely is a fan of one of the also rans in the conference, who in due time will be receiving scraps in terms of conference revenues (as an alternative to receiving the boot).

I think Yormark understands the marketing strategy while the Big 12 members don't. Expansion is one piece. Competition, and taking market away from the acc, is another. I'm not fully engaged in the bowl process but adding UConn might also get the Big 12 a bowl tie-in near the northeast. ACC has both the Fenway Bowl (ACC-AAC) and Pinstripe Bowl (ACC-B1G).

Yes, it should have been clear as day as the ACC has UNC-Duke as the prime example, the greatest college basketball rivalry running. The UCLA-USC grab was particularly valuable. UConn-Syracuse and UConn-Pitt are the two rivalries which would have really boosted the ACC's Northeast presence. BCU added nothing. And if the ACC had somehow managed to retain Maryland and add Rutgers, the ACC would outright own the entire east coast with no risk of being poached.

The B1G would never take us. There is just too much of a culture difference. We have a culture of winning national championships, and they... don't. We like to count trophies; they'd rather count the seats in their stadiums.

I find UConn fans very passionate. One of the most passionate fan bases I have ever seen. Also find many people on this website knowledgeable about college sports. UConn fans are very knowledgeable about college basketball. This site has great information. Only issue I have is with Zoo who has anger issues.

I totally agree with this. GDF was not a business person and by all outward appearances a pretty insecure guy in way over his head. UCONN would have brought a lot to the table for BC and Syracuse and the ACC in general. Louisville.......not so much......

One of the stupidest move ever. ACC wanted UConn and Syracuse first, BCU worked to get ACC to take Pitt and Cuse instead. The second round they took Louisville over UConn based on input from Clemson and FSU with both trying to get out of the conference right now. The NC schools wanted UConn, and we do appreciate fans of UNC, NCST, Duke, and Wake on this. Third time they took Calford and SMU over UConn, which is laughable at this point.

ACC is a backyard conference run by a bunch of petty outdated people. This conference simply deserve to die.

B12, on the other hand, is run by a commissioner who is a visionary with a long term plan. I would much rather UConn align with the B12 than the ACC.

There is a tendency in expansion moves to take the current hot girl, but not looking at its long term performance. The ACC did it with BC taking a program that was at one of its few high points but was otherwise pretty mediocre. The assumption is that they are going to continue, not that they will return to the mean. Pitt was similar. The Big East has done it too with DePaul and with Butler. The Big 10 has had a different strategy but that also resulted in some duds, like Rutgers, Maryland and Nebraska.

Yormark has been trying to get us in the Big 12, he's not the problem. Some of the schools in the west and southwest have been keeping us out.

I like the comic strip (BC) but have no interest in Boston College and never have. I've been to Boston only once, in my teens, and didn't bother going back there when we honeymooned on Cape Cod in 1965 or returned to the Hyannis years later to celebrate our fortieth anniversary. The identity of my Alma Mater is immaterial in discussions like this. I just come aboard to point out the absurdity of the original poster's laughing out loud at the B12 while, at the same time, many of you would give your left ones to get an invitation from that conference... or any other "P" conference, for that matter.

A big problem is that you folks haven't reached a consensus regarding UConn's future. Some want to stay in the Big East and revel in its once-a-year exposure at MSG, and some want to move on to what you perceive to be greener pastures. Make up your minds. Other conferences may rightly conclude that UConn will never be happy regardless of its affiliation.
