Lol at the Big 12

You think UConn has a bigger college presence than a lot of BIG colleges like Michigan, OSU, and Penn State in NYC?
I do. It didn't 20 years ago, but it does now. I'm not talking about alumni. The B1G probably have more alumni in major cities than any other conference. But fan support? Yes...

Have you ever lived in NYC?

Have you ever lived in NYC?
No. But obviously I've been there numerous numerous times.

Have you ever lived in North Africa? Well then how do you know it's hot there??? That's what you sound like right now...

It does, because of Fairfield County. We need to grow it.

So I see. You have visited. Do you have any data to support your hypothesis or are you just spitballing.

Not spitballing. Most here know that's not my thing.

The only actual data that I can find from NYC (New York Times) is back in September 2011 when we were 4th (150,000 people, 5.2% share of the market) behind only Rutgers, Notre Dame, and Penn State. We were ahead of Michigan (5.0%) and Syracuse (4.6%).

A lot of things have changed since that 2011 survey. Like...3 more national championships in basketball. The UConn brand is strong in NYC.

Where's your data now? If you don't have any, please stop with this. I know you might simply feel that talking about 100k - 200k fans in a city the size of NYC isn't significant, but it is...

Looks like 30,062 for the Pinstripe vs. 27,900 for Fenway.

I’m guessing a lot of Yankee Stadium was filled with Nebraska fans. They travel quite well, and I have a hard time imagining BC can fill a baseball stadium in the Bronx better than they could Fenway last year.
30,062 sounds reasonable fot the Pinstripe Bowl.

30,000 Nebraska fans; 62 BC fans.

Are you saying UConn has the same presence in NYC that USC had during the Pete Carroll years in LA? You are talking about 15k UConn fans coming into the city to go to Madison Square garden in a city of 8 million. Sure keep believing that on your bus ride back to Hartford.
How many NFL teams were in LA when Pete Carroll was at USC?

Dan97 finally admitted he was talking a couple 100k in NYC. Very believable in a city of 8 million. Just stop with the nonsense

That's a funny way of admitting you were wrong.

That's okay...I love all of Husky Nation. And today was a good day. Cheers, bro...

No I was not wrong. People on the site were acting like UConn had significant presence in NYC. Having 200K out of 8 million is not significant percent of the population.

A staggering 7 teams are not bowl eligible, yet UConn football was so bad they couldn't be brought in as 17. Now they are curb stomping UNC. Particularly funny that Utah and Okie State suck after voting no on UConn. And now the SEC dominates basketball. Too funny.

The decision by several Big 12 presidents was incredibly short-sighted. UConn is a nationally recognized brand, and many of us know that their football program will be revitalized, as we’re already seeing. In the past, when UConn football was performing well, they regularly averaged over 30K fans, approaching 40K, in the old Big East. With Jim Mora at the helm, the program is on the right track and will make a strong comeback.

The Big 12 also missed a major opportunity by not adding UConn for basketball. The UConn women’s team against USC drew an impressive 2.3 million viewers, peaking at 3.8 million, even while competing with several football games. UCONN men will do well again this March like they always do.

Let us know if you hear any new developments ;)

Football drives the bus except when it doesn't. Florida State and Oklahoma State sucked this year. Auburn, Miss. State, Oklahoma, Michigan State, UCLA, Wiscy, meh. And no one expects Cincy, Houston, Louisville, Cuse, Rutgers, Maryland, Kentucky, Vandy to win national championships. The only program where football rating applies is UConn. That metric needs to go away. UConn just beat a P4 program for a bowl win. UConn with none of the P4 or G5 conference benefits. Anyone who fails to see that UConn will more than carry its weight once it joins a conference is just making excuses. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and UConn makes any chain stronger. The performance of this UConn Football team is far better than we could have hoped for given the circumstances. So let's get it done!

You better let SNY know that nobody cares about UConn basketball in NYC and to stop carrying their games
Actually SNY will not be broadcasting any more UConn women basketball games starting in 2025-2026 season.

The Big East did not miss the opportunity. Mutually beneficial alignment.

If football drives the bus money-wise, and it's not even close between FB and Bball, why wouldn't the Big 12 presidents lean toward Boise for the next realignment add?
FWIW, BYU Provo alone obviously has a solid fan base in Idaho, 130% as many students as Boise State, and massively more alumni nationally and beyond. Then, add BYU Idaho with 165% as many students as Boise.

If the Broncos were a huge draw, a P4/5/6 would have added Boise long ago versus PacX or old BE in survival mode. Clearly less relevant in today’s college sports environment, but Boise State’s <30% graduation rate is always impressive. /s

Using that logic no university has a significant presence in NYC and leagues should just ignore it. Yet every year schools trip over themselves to play at MSG and even a few FB games find their way to Met Life and Yankee Stadium. Why do they do that when they have such a small piece of the market?

BTW, Michigan played at MSG a few weeks ago in front of about 14K. That’s a nice crowd, but it’s still about 5K empty seats.

You’re an imbecile.

We got that on the first go around…not sure why you think we need to see more.
Well the problem is I keep getting snide comments from intelligent people like you. Please be careful you do not want to wake up your parents upstairs.

Doesn't really make sense to me either. They have a great program that has consistently won 10+ games for decades now. Idaho and especially Boise are growing very fast as well so the TV market potential is only going to improve.

Not sure if that Boise market moves the needle.
Not yet, but Idaho is one of the fastest growing states in the country and Boise is one of the fastest growing cities. Couple that with their phenomenal program + a location that makes sense and Boise just seems like a perfect fit for the Big 12.

This topic has been covered many times on this website and you have been 1) proven wrong on NYC, and 2) increasingly outing yourself as a troll. You may need to create another new handle and start over because I think the gig is about up on this one.

I was not questioning it does not help. I was questioning that UConn has significant presence in the NYC media market.
the WBB alone was cutting in over the Syracuse MBB on SNY.
