The decision by several Big 12 presidents was incredibly short-sighted. UConn is a nationally recognized brand, and many of us know that their football program will be revitalized, as we’re already seeing. In the past, when UConn football was performing well, they regularly averaged over 30K fans, approaching 40K, in the old Big East. With Jim Mora at the helm, the program is on the right track and will make a strong comeback.

The Big 12 also missed a major opportunity by not adding UConn for basketball. The UConn women’s team against USC drew an impressive 2.3 million viewers, peaking at 3.8 million, even while competing with several football games. UCONN men will do well again this March like they always do.
The Big East did not miss the opportunity. Mutually beneficial alignment.

If football drives the bus money-wise, and it's not even close between FB and Bball, why wouldn't the Big 12 presidents lean toward Boise for the next realignment add?
FWIW, BYU Provo alone obviously has a solid fan base in Idaho, 130% as many students as Boise State, and massively more alumni nationally and beyond. Then, add BYU Idaho with 165% as many students as Boise.

If the Broncos were a huge draw, a P4/5/6 would have added Boise long ago versus PacX or old BE in survival mode. Clearly less relevant in today’s college sports environment, but Boise State’s <30% graduation rate is always impressive. /s

Dan97 finally admitted he was talking a couple 100k in NYC. Very believable in a city of 8 million. Just stop with the nonsense
Using that logic no university has a significant presence in NYC and leagues should just ignore it. Yet every year schools trip over themselves to play at MSG and even a few FB games find their way to Met Life and Yankee Stadium. Why do they do that when they have such a small piece of the market?

BTW, Michigan played at MSG a few weeks ago in front of about 14K. That’s a nice crowd, but it’s still about 5K empty seats.

Doesn't really make sense to me either. They have a great program that has consistently won 10+ games for decades now. Idaho and especially Boise are growing very fast as well so the TV market potential is only going to improve.

Not sure if that Boise market moves the needle.
Not yet, but Idaho is one of the fastest growing states in the country and Boise is one of the fastest growing cities. Couple that with their phenomenal program + a location that makes sense and Boise just seems like a perfect fit for the Big 12.

Well the problem is I keep getting snide comments from intelligent people like you. Please be careful you do not want to wake up your parents upstairs.

This topic has been covered many times on this website and you have been 1) proven wrong on NYC, and 2) increasingly outing yourself as a troll. You may need to create another new handle and start over because I think the gig is about up on this one.

No I was not wrong. People on the site were acting like UConn had significant presence in NYC. Having 200K out of 8 million is not significant percent of

I was not questioning it does not help. I was questioning that UConn has significant presence in the NYC media market.
Jesus, the WBB alone was cutting in over the Syracuse MBB on SNY.

The ACC can go to hell.

When the ACC crumbles expect that the B10 to invite UConn when it swipes UNC and Florida State to round out the best conference.

.
we all should be angry that the ACC didn't invite uconn in the past. but i don't think it will crumble and if they invite uconn soon, it would strengthen the conference. uconn in the acc makes sense.

With all due respect to Idaho, Connecticut is almost twice the population. Being the "fastest growing" has to be put in context...

The juggernaut ACC finished 1-9 in bowl games.

Winner: Syracuse (52-35 Wash St.)

Losers: BC (15-20 Nebraska)
Cal (13-24 UNLV)
Clemson (24-38 Texas)
Ga. Tech. (27-35 Vanderbilt)
Miami (41-42 Iowa St.)
UNC (14-27 UConn)
NC St. (21-26 ECU)
Pitt (46-48 Toledo)
SMU (10-38 Penn St.)

Four losses to non-P4 schools (UNLV, UConn, ECU, Toledo).
And you should add a badly depleted Wash St. due to the transfer portal. 30 players including starting QB and head coach out in the transfer portal, no longer in a viable P4 conference. I know a lot of teams have transfer portal issues during the bowl games, including North Carolina, but Wash St. was hit particularly hard.

Actually SNY will not be broadcasting any more UConn women basketball games starting in 2025-2026 season.
The Big East has a new and more lucrative media rights package that will expand platform options for conference games. The new six-year deal begins in 2025 with NBC Sports and TNT Sports joining main league partner Fox Sports as content providers.

It's like trying to convince someone that the earth isn't flat. You're just going to get frustrated. He doesn't even comprehend that having around 200,000 UConn fans within New York's city limits is extremely significant.

If those same 200,000 people made their own city in Connecticut, it would be it the most populated city in our state...

Careful son, you just poked the bear and I don’t think you fully know what you’re getting yourself into.

That was my point. Only team that had a big presence in one of the cities you mentioned was USC when they won national championships during Pete Carroll years. Hollywood stars were showing up at those games and it was must see

And you are offering up crap that happened 20 years ago

The Big 12 had the dog and pony expansion show back in what 2016 and most of us knew it was a mistake for the conference to stand pat. Texas and Oklahoma were likely leaving someday but everyone thought they were safe. Texas and Oklahoma left and the only thing that saved the Big 12 was the PAC imploding. Who knows what would have happened if the Big 12 invited UConn and a few others back then.

The ACC just sucks at realignment. Period. There are no P conference programs looking to move to the ACC and it continues to ignore one of the most valuable brands today.

UConn went back-to-back and took the heels behind the woodshed in the Fenway Bowl. We can't ask for more than that. I'm sure we'll hear rumblings again which will be another huge time suck so what the hell. pass the popcorn.

The problem for us is that we beat the life out of UNC right in BC's back yard and out-drew BC's fan base in the same building (year over year) by a wide margin. This only reinforces BCs fear and their stance that they can't let us in. They know it would be the death of their programs...

We were sitting near a fan who was completely dressed in Boston Bruins winter gear, with just a UConn hat. Another woman with red sox gear. Some fans are just sports fans looking to feast with a winner. If you have UConn, they will come. The ACC has whiffed at every opportunity and is barely treading water right now.
