The decision by several Big 12 presidents was incredibly short-sighted. UConn is a nationally recognized brand, and many of us know that their football program will be revitalized, as we’re already seeing. In the past, when UConn football was performing well, they regularly averaged over 30K fans, approaching 40K, in the old Big East. With Jim Mora at the helm, the program is on the right track and will make a strong comeback.
The Big 12 also missed a major opportunity by not adding UConn for basketball. The UConn women’s team against USC drew an impressive 2.3 million viewers, peaking at 3.8 million, even while competing with several football games. UCONN men will do well again this March like they always do.
