Lol at the Big 12

I like the comic strip (BC) but have no interest in Boston College and never have. I've been to Boston only once, in my teens, and didn't bother going back there when we honeymooned on Cape Cod in 1965 or returned to the Hyannis years later to celebrate our fortieth anniversary. The identity of my Alma Mater is immaterial in discussions like this. I just come aboard to point out the absurdity of the original poster's laughing out loud at the B12 while, at the same time, many of you would give your left ones to get an invitation from that conference... or any other "P" conference, for that matter.

A big problem is that you folks haven't reached a consensus regarding UConn's future. Some want to stay in the Big East and revel in its once-a-year exposure at MSG, and some want to move on to what you perceive to be greener pastures. Make up your minds. Other conferences may rightly conclude that UConn will never be happy regardless of its affiliation.
So you were presumably married 60 years ago. If you and the missus are still together, happy 60th anniversary this year.

I'm guessing you're somewhere in your 80's. Makes me wonder why a guy in his 80's, who isn't a fan of UConn, comes to a UConn board to spout off animus to the fans here. I further wonder, did you go to the FSU and Clemson board(s) to chide them on their vacillations about leaving the ACC with their lawsuits and subsequent tucking of their tails after their court cases fell apart and now they'll stay in the ACC? Did you go to the Utah board to lambaste those fans about how their university didn't really want to go to the Big12 and openly criticized that move this past Fall when a penalty call didn't go in their favor? How about TCU that recently said one of the aims of its AD is to get into the Big10, seems they aren't happy where they are. Did you hank, did you tell them to make up their damn minds? If not, then make up YOUR mind and don't be so biased to only hypocritically mouth off here and not there.

Somehow you feel the urgent need to meander here and tell us what our problem is. We're congnizant of the situation. West Virginia may like the Big12, or at least the money they're getting, but they haven't been as successful in football since they left the Big East where they had four 11-win seasons. Same applies to Syracuse (for BBall and football). Some of their fans may miss what they had before, and I've read the sentiments that a few Syracuse fans have wrote that backup what I'm saying. There's no shame that some of our fanbase want to stay in the Big East, as those "glory days" were kind for both BBall and football. Us fans who can see the forest for the trees know that the current Big East is not the permanent solution.

If the phone rings and it's a P4 calling for an invite, the decision to say yes is likely made before the caller has a chance to say anything beyond "We'd like to invite you". We don't need to make up our minds, and don't be a prat about this. The only mind that needs to be made up is that of whatever commissioner has the cajones to invite us. Regardless of that, it seems this board may rightly conclude that you will never be happy if anything good happens with UConn. You are free to be miserable on some other site, though I would sincerely hope that at your age, you want to enjoy what's good in life.

I also saw Hank on the Notre Dame board

Silly…
Go on any forum of any team and you’ll find a debate on anything.
That’s the point of these forums.

That‘s correct. To fully understand just how irrelevant BC is to regional college athletics you have to attend a hoops game at Conte. You and the other 100 folks there can use the time for meditation.
I think 100 is an aggressive estimate Lol

A staggering 7 teams are not bowl eligible, yet UConn football was so bad they couldn't be brought in as 17. Now they are curb stomping UNC. Particularly funny that Utah and Okie State suck after voting no on UConn. And now the SEC dominates basketball. Too funny.

What is the Big 12 afraid of? Do they think UConn Football will break the conference?

They are afraid of losing money. That's the only thing I can think of. I honestly have no idea what the monetary value of UConn would be to the Big 12, but their people must think it will cost them money to add UConn and they aren't convinced that future basketball revenues would make it worth it. This is the only possible explanation I can think of.

The 4 corner schools of the old PAC-12 either added value or didn't subtract value. The 4 G5 additions the year prior may very well have cost the Big 12 money, but they were desperate at that time and wanted strong football brands.

Another possible explanation may be the Big 12 is hoping the ACC explodes and they can get some decent brands not wanted elsewhere like they did with the PAC schools. This may never happen, so I have no idea if this is even in their discussions. My bet is its the money.

I think taking the four corner schools was to simply guarantee the end of the Pac 12. The schools were not awful and each had something to offer in one sport or another. However, taking those schools finalized the collapse of a P5 rival conference.

As for why we are still left out in the cold in their eyes, I have no clue.

Afraid that that UConn has success despite not have the funds they do. They show how incompetent these schools are because majority can’t touch UConn success on the field or court.

To me they are afraid that with the funding UConn will climb to height in football that they could never do. It would prove either their incompetence or greediness.

It is the same story with the ACC. BC was always afraid that UConn would take over New England and they would be second fiddle.

The 4 Corner Schools was an unexpected gift and absolutely added value to the Big 12. Each school is a huge public U, AAU, well over $1 billion endowments. The Big Ten took the top 4 which sunk the PAC 12, the Big 12 took the next best 4. Maybe Stanford should be in there but the Corner 4 alone was a huge prize. I know others don't think as much of the Corner 4 but it was a much bigger haul than the previous BYU/Cincy/Houston/UCF.

I think the ACC situation is still a factor. The Big 12 would grab a few ACC programs if they become available and there is just no rush I suppose to lock in UConn.
