Brief highlight clip from last night's game. At least YouTube is cooperating today.

Great replay video, especially of Aaliyah on a phenomenal put back!!
Nice block by Phillipina Kyei ( 6'8" ) for Team Canada.
Note that USA outscored Team Canada in the second half 41 to 35. Nice
to have a cushion! Also very helpful that Team Canada had 5 players in
double figures. Of course Canada may not have won without that
87% free throw shooting 21 for 24!!. I loved the seven blocked shots.
Lastly, Canada having Virginia
Commonwealth's Canadian, playing for Canada!!, did not hurt. Ms.
S. Te-Biasu ,a guard, played 18:07 minutes against her VCU teammates,
getting 10 points and 3 rebounds ( two for two from the FT line)
How to beat France? Of course, outscore them, but also continue
with the multiple player offense, and " DEFENSE " : It seems to me that
France is " fast" and " quick".

Should be a good wake up call. Play like that against FR, they will not win

Very true, however her soon to be team mate, Mary Asare held her own against Canada last night too. A freshman who has done most of her "training" with VCU via Zoom because she was competing at U18 America's.

VCU will have a very entertaining guard tandem with those two.

After two games Canada's offensive average 71.5 ppg Defensive average 61 ppg MOV 10.5
France's offensive average 60.5 ppg Defensive average 38 ppg MOV 22.5
rebound average: Canada 52.5 France 42.5 + 10 for Canada
turnovers: Canada 15.5 France 24.5 + 9 better than France
so. good offense beats good defense?? or vice versa ... I put my bets on Canada's fewer turnovers
and Canada's better rebounding. But let the game begin !!( in 10 minutes ) That is why they play
the game. ! Go Aaliyah, go Day Wilson, Oh, Canada!!

Half time Canada 41 - France 28 Aaliyah, please don't get that third foul!
The game so far seems to be 1) Canada outrebounding France 28 - 11
and 2) Canada hitting their 3 point shots 5 of 12 with France making one of six.
Canada slowed down offensively when Aaliyah went to the bench at 2:44 remaining
of the second quarter. Canada only made free throws after that. Two Periods to go!
Russell with 12 points Aaliyah with 11

She got to 20 pt / 10 Rebounds (8 off). Nasty. MOP guaranteed
While making any national team is a great honor, every athlete wants to play and contribute to the team’s success. With that in mind, Aaliyah’s performance with Canada’s U23 team has to be so much more rewarding than her experience last summer with the Canadian Olympic team, and I strongly suspect it will fuel her exceptional performance right on into this coming season with UConn.

Her play has been phenomenal. I can't help but to sound a little giddy but it's so fun to watch her out there. The physicality, athleticism, and composure while playing is amazing. She's every team's primary focus on defense and she's handling it well. Wish UConn fans had access to the game footage.

Canada 73 - France 56 Canada holds France to 2 points over the
last 3:35 minutes while Canada scores 12. Aaliyah got her 4 th foul! but
another Double Double with 20 points and 10 rebounds; Russell with 17 points
Day Lewis with 17 points ( and some critical free throws and a three pointer to
pad the total). Taya Hanson with 6 points and S. Te-Blasu also 6 points.
This was not a runaway. France made a run at the beginning
of the fourth quarter and got it down to 6 points at one time. The Canadian
defense HELD! at one point causing a shot clock violation on France.
K. Chery and O. Diarisso (sp) both of France can block shots.
So.... Canada and USA in one semi final France and Belgium in the other.
Expect a rematch of Canada and France in the Finals on Sunday. Please
Canada = watch those fouls!! Cheers! Z
