Last 5 minutes of the game Hurley is playing a (4) guard lineup.

AG 6’0
Gaffney 6’2
Vital 6’1
Adams 6’4
Whaley 6’8

Bouknight checks in for Adams around the 3:00 minute mark. So we’ve closed this game out, against a top 25 team, with two different (4) guard lineups.

Nolley seems like the ideal big guard. Three years of eligibility (whether he uses them or not). Closing out games with:

Gaffney 6’2 or Cole
Bouknight 6’5
Jackson 6’6
Nolley 6’7
Whaley 6’8

Dynamic and tantalizing.

That second lineup...yeah. Yeah, that's the stuff...

So this thread title is 2021 recruiting but everyone is talking about him being an immediate impact player next season. What are the odds of Nolly being able to play right away?

The kid is 31% from three.

We need a C/PF and a shooter.

WAS 31% from 3... as a freshman on high volume. He took almost 1 more 3 per game than Vital did. Context matters. 78% from the FT line bodes well. Shooting improves most from freshman to sophomore years.

I've never seen the kid play. Don't really know anything about him. Never saw his name until this thread. You could be right. You could be wrong. Yes, kids improve. But the numbers are the numbers. The kid wants to play wing. I would prefer a big guard with a high percentage from the arc. If we had a 6-4 to 6-6 shooting guard shooting 39% from the arc, he would get minutes.

Rashad shot 31% from 3 his Jr year. I think with more weapons & less contested/volume chuckin, hopefully the percentage will improve. 10/15 games into the season the kid was showing up on draft boards as a 1st rd pick. Type of talent any coach shouldn’t turn away.

don’t forget he was making the jump from hs level 3 to the new extended 3pt line. That’s a pretty big leap.

We have 4 healthy bigs and Akok coming back + Sid/Polley. We definitely don’t need a big.

By looking at the numbers he also wore down as many freshman do at the end of the year. His team's last 8 games (When they were certainly headed for no postseason) he shot 22/95 (23% FG) and 7/41 (17% 3pt). You can make the case that he was asked to do a lot, in a tough league and hit a wall down the stretch.

Which means prior to the last 8 his numbers were: 145/356 (41% FG) 59/168 (35% 3pt)

Are those two redundant, though? I think we’d take either, not necessarily both. Unless there other players on the move who nobody has mentioned.

I really want to land Nolley more than any realistic target out there.

hence my question...I do too. But if we can get 2...do we go after another big guard, or try to get a commit from mac, or another big?

While I think both Nolley and Martin are guys you take, I agree that I'd rather have the last scholarship go to either a big, a guy who can play the point, or a plus 3 point shooter (38% + type). While I think Nolley and Martin have different skill sets, I still think there's some positional redundancy if you take both.

However, I don't love the idea of Etienne this season as I don't see him as a guy who would really be able to contribute right away. Only way you take him is if you aren't going to otherwise fill the scholarship, and if we feel like we better grab him now before other big boys come calling over the summer.

And if you count only the threes he made, technically he shot 100%.

This kid has talent - no doubt about it
BUT just because any player averaged X points per game as a freshman in a P5 doesn't mean they are a good fit in every program
I have no idea if this kid fits but if the staff says yes - great- and if they have reservations then its a pass

Saw the VT vs BYU Maui game Nov.2019. Nolley can play. I see him as a 3/4. He had 22 pts/7 Reb.
Then I think a pass first guard would be good insurance for us if we get Nolley first.
