Cole is starting next year 100%. Lineups of him and Gaffney starting together have been discussed too, not out of the question. All depends who we get in this next month or two.
I think the feeling is that Sid May stay now with the uncertainty of the transfer rule.....so maybe we only add one player

You think Nolley's coming here to play a stretch 4? I thought the reason he wanted out of Tech was to paly the 3? Roscoe Smith ring a bell?

in 2011* our top 5 players in terms of mpg were kemba, bazz, lamb, roscoe and oriakhi so roscoe primarily played stretch 4

To be clear, I’m really high on Cole as well. I really liked how Gaffney ran our offense last year though. Cole seems to be very talented and my hope would be that if he does start it would be a smooth transition chemistry wise.

I can see Jackson coming off the bench to start the year like Bouk did and going out with a 3 guard lineup for the starting lineup. If Nolly wants to play wing it would probably be for short spurts seeing the depth we have at guard. With our roster Springs might be the odd man out minutes wise, especially if Polly returns.

I think Jackson will probably come off the bench to begin the season but he could start. I believe Bouknight came off the bench because he was suspended and Coach was pissed at him.

1. You mean in 2011.
2. In 2011, Roscoe started at the 3 each half and was then switched over to a stretch 4 when we went smaller, so he was playing both.
3. In 2012 he barely played. He wanted to play the 3 and the coaches wanted him to play the 4. Thus, Tyler Olander became the third big.
4. And then in 2013 he left because Calhoun saw him as a 4 and he saw himself as a 3.

yeah 2011. who cares about olander starting he averaged 9.6 mpg. the point is roscoe played most of his minutes at the 4 and as part of our best lineup....what point are you trying to make?

Also what people conveniently leave out in the Roscoe Smith narrative is he went to UNLV... and played the 4. Which is what we should be doing with Nolley, he'll play the 4 which in our system is a wing and meets his criteria

There’s something mildly infuriating about announcing a top 11 rather than a top 10.

If we get Nolley, him along with our other guards will be draining threes all year. Perimeter shooting is going to be very scary.

and Roscoe was bigger than Nolley. These guys have some sort of weird obsession with playing guys who think they are guards at PF. I’m not saying we won’t go small now and then, and certainly we were forced to late last year. But I expect Whaley at the 4 and somebody else at the 5. Nolley, if he comes, starts at 3, Bouk is clearly a 2 and Cole at 1. Deep bench, plenty of minutes for Gaff and Jackson.

It's really fun trying to watch people try and convince themselves UConn is going to play 1980s basketball in 2020

I get what you’re saying. But there’s also something to be said for zigging while others zag.

Unc went to back to back title games with a double big said.

not saying this is the front court team to go that far, but it’s not impossible to do.

The 4 on the the national championship winning UNC team you mention was Justin Jackson, who is 6'8 193. But sure let's hear more about how Nolley can't work as a 4

I hope you're right, but Dan started Whaley and Carlton instead of Adams or Gilbert after Akok went down. That makes me uneasy.

We were already starting 3 guards and had no other options. I'd say this was an extenuating circumstance.

That's fair, but look at the next 35 minutes of every game and we basically had Adams and Sid at the 4 every game. Carlton and Whaley were rarely on the floor after the start

Isaiah Hicks and Kennedy Meeks started 39 and 40 games for that team.

and I certainly wasn’t saying your last point. It seems pretty clear he’s a stretch 4 in hurley’s system.

On the championship team Hicks started 3 games.

I also have a hard time believing Dan is gonna bench senior Carlton, and you'd think that Carlton wouldn't stay to be a backup after starting for 3 years. But hopefully you're right.

Nolley isn’t coming here to backup Carlton either...
