One of the falls was because of a wet floor under the basket. The good - both great offense & defense by multiple players.
The bad - multiple missed bunnies.
The ugly - UConn players colliding and falling on each other more than once.
Ayanna was awesome, love her energy, Lou gets an A from me today, and Ines surprised me with her poise and ball-handling. Ines needs to learn to move on offense, but I cut her a lot of slack for being a late addition to the roster, a freshman, and one in the US for the first time. That’s a lot to assimilate.
I totally agree with Geno.
I saw Ines parked on the perimeter a couple times but someone must have said something to her because she did move a bit more after thatI was watching her and I thought she was moving. Did you see her back door cut? The one time she was standing, it looked like she wanted to roTate to the top but someone else ran to the space.

I think being "a step slower than the rest of the team" is an accurate description, unfortunately.I was at the game today, and overall, pretty much everyone had something positive to contribute. My only concern is Amari. Against bigger teams (especially if we have foul trouble) we may need solid minutes from her and I am really concerned that she may not be able to contribute in that role. She didn't get in until the 4th, and right now, clearly is not part of the primary rotation. Maybe my imagination, but she always seems to be one step slower than the rest of the team, whether hustling up the floor or making sharp cuts. Hoping she proves me wrong
They were all her own missed layups.Unable to watch the game, however just looking at the box scores there was one item that jumped out at me, something that I think we will need and have not had in recent years. Ayanna listed with 4 o rebounds. There have been games in recent seasons when we haven't pulled down 4 for the entire game. With a lot of impressive stats for this game, the O rebound line was the most welcome to me.![]()
What I get for only being able to see the box scores. However, 4 put backs is also something that has been missing in recent years, so I will take the O boards and be thankful for the put backs. They were all her own missed layups.
There’s a link to the replay tacked to the top of the boardWhat I get for only being able to see the box scores. However, 4 put backs is also something that has been missing in recent years, so I will take the O boards and be thankful for the put backs.
I think she may be having problem picking up the schemes. She did well playing the high post. Amari made the reads and made the plays. but I think Amari may be having trouble picking up the defense. She was a little confused at times with her defensive assignments. This may be why when Amari and Ines got in the game they only played zone defense. Geno don't play you if you can't play team defense.I was at the game today, and overall, pretty much everyone had something positive to contribute. My only concern is Amari. In one five second stretch Ayanna was 0 for 3 with 2 offensive reboundsThey were all her own missed layups.
I think we have a point guard!!!
Nika's stat line:
7 pts on 2/4 shooting & 2/2 FT
8 rebounds
11 assists
2 blocks
5 steals
3 turnovers
2 personal fouls
Unofficially, I also had Nika drawing 5 pf's on Kutzdown defenders.
) but I still want her to shoot more. She took just 4 shots the entire game. Now I get it a lot depends on what the defense of their opponent is making available to the Huskies but shooting is an attitude as well as a mechanical process. She's still looking to pass too much IMO.How about The Torch!?So do we call her the Arsonist now instead of the Gnat?![]()
Nan, I completely agree. What we must remember is that Lou told Geno and the media that EVERY play at Fairfield was run for her. She said if she didn’t score, they would lose. So she developed a shooter’s mentality. She had to shoot. She maintained that mindset over 4 years. It’s ingrained in her. What I came away with is that there is a go-to player who’s willing to take the shot. Her name is Lou.
What a great pick-up she is
Not if Caroline shows she can drill 3's. UCONN then would have 3 3pt shooters. And two of them are very "elite."we are going to see a lot of zone against us this season.
