This Oregon thing is a joke. Altman's a stiff
Yea, Altman may not be a good coach, but he has the backing of Nike, which is an enormous benefit AND he can offer a much better, more competitive schedule throughout the season. Even if they don't play a single RPI Top 100 team in the non-con, they play Arizona, UCLA, UW, Stanford et al, twice, in a conference steeped in history.
Maybe he never really considered UCONN, but our recruiting is really, really bad and frankly, some of it is completely out of the hands of the coaching staff/program. I understand that it has been an uphill fight since 2011, even with the two titles the team faced a post-season ban one year, then lost a top 5 coach, then hired a new coach with no experience and gave him a 7 month contract. I know that you all know this, but it is very difficult to convince highly rated recruits to come play for a coach who may not even be there at the end of the year and a conference with zero history and a low level of talent. Additionally, we don't have a recruiting specialist on staff and force KO to be the main recruiter instead of the closer and even if they do bring on a recruiter this off season, any coach going head-to-head with UConn just has to point out the awful schedule they play and the fact that they are not a P5 school. Blame KO, he certainly needs to improve on the recruiting trail, but remember all the ammunition that the P5 coaches have when they're going after the same kid. It is fixable, but until then, its going to be a grind.
