Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

Boggles my mind that the "Pac 12" is still involved in the conversation somehow

The original CFP playoff contract ran through June 30, 2026. The PAC-12 is included in anything "P5" until that date, including lawsuits. On July 1, 2026 - the same day the Mountain West schools and Gonzaga join - the PAC-12 will no longer be included in the "P5" and that terminology goes away. The PAC-12 will be treated just like the AAC, MW, MAC, Sun Belt, and CUSA as of that date.

On a similar note, the original PAC-12 still had 2 years remaining on their bowl agreements when they broke up. Last year, all former PAC-12 schools that were bowl eligible and not in the CFP were bound to those bowl games. Washington, for example, participated as the PAC-12 representative to the Sun Bowl, even though the revenue from participating in that bowl went to Washington/the B1G. Those schools were fulfilling the requirements of the original contract. This fall, the same thing will happen again. Then that original contract will be finished and starting in 2026, those former PAC-12 schools will participate in the bowl rotations of their current conferences.

There is no way congress will eliminate the ability of individual states to sue about punishment for payments under NIL. The states AG's will make sure their representatives don't approve that in a bill.
Because that's how federal legislation works. Elected representatives wait to hear from an unelected attorney general in their home states as to how to vote.

In CT (and 42 other states), the AG is an elected position.

The NBA and NFL should all be a part of this. The fact that they have operated a minor league and benefitted from this development is abominable. They are exploiting the amateur system to develop their players. MLB has minor leagues and there are indy leagues. Soccer had development league and schools. hockey has juniors in Canada.

NFL is valuation is over $200 billion. It's worth more than the semiconductor AMD. I mean, it is crazy the NFL doesn't put any money in since that sport benefits. If NFL went up for sale, all 32 teams and the rights etc. Wonder if NFL went public?

I don't agree on the NBA as their sources of talent are more diverse. In last year's draft, half of the top 12 picks never played college basketball and 18/30 first round picks either never played college basketball or were one and dones.

True basketball has become an international sport .
Either way The NBA is only minimally in the development of young players .
They’re not investing millions into guys who won’t pan out .

That didn’t take too long

We have debates ad nauseum about guys leaving early and whether they are ready. It almost always comes down to, the kids will get better preparation playing in the NBA than they will playing another year of college ball with the hassles of going to school.

Exhibit Bouknight: Lots of debate on these boards. Signed for over $4 million/year and it didn't pan out.

I saw Bouknight when he was sent down to Greensboro and sat there pouting when they played Westchester in Bridgeport. He is one that needed to stay in school.

I would have no problem with Memphis joining the big east for their Olympic sports only. We need another solid basketball team. A good basketball conference should have four solid teams, if not more.

Memphis to the Big East would not be until 2027 at the earliest.

I don't think adding Memphis is worth breaking the double round robin unless somehow it comes with a significant raise. And I don't think going to 22 conference games is a great idea. We can offer the PAC football-only ourselves with no conference or buyout complications. In fact, it is probably a benefit to the Big East, as if we have a financially and competitively stable home for football, the Big East is much more likely to retain their star property.

From a solely selfish point of view: if I’m UConn I’d say no way. A successful Memphis in football and Big East basketball puts them in pole position over UConn for an ACC or Big 12 place. If I’m the Big East I would demand an astronomical exit fee if Memphis joined.
