There's a greater likelihood that the president of UConn could look out her window and see a corn field than could the presidents of Houston, Cincy, UCF, or any of the 4-corner schools. There's also a greater likelihood that any of those presidents could look out their office window and see an on-campus stadium. Podunk, indeed.

There is also a very strong likelyhood that BC's president could attend a men's basketball game and shake hands with every fan in attendance in less than ten minutes.

You kind of picked the schools that don’t make his point and avoided the large handful that do.

All of the rest are in bigger towns than Storrs, and their campuses are bigger too. Again, Google Earth doesn't lie.

You're right. The KU and K State Presidents would see Sunflower Fields. Have you ever been to Big 12 land? Your comment is the dumbest comment in Boneyard history.
 
I've moved around a bit over the years but have lived in Big 12 country since 1977. Having traveled extensively throughout the area, I'd expect to see fields of sunflowers in western Kansas, and I have, but Manhattan (KSU) and Lawrence (KU) are in the eastern part of the state. Locales in Kansas well east of the 100th meridian are hillier and more wooded. No fields of sunflowers there.

You're welcome to come out and see for yourself, but please don't stay.

So it's only been 50 years since you've lived in Big 12 country. You're really up to date. I live KC right now you rube. I've ridden tons of bike races from Salina eastward.

You don't have to be in Western KS to see Sunflowers. And Manhattan is still surrounded by an empty Prairie. The drive into Manhattan off of 70 is sobering.

Not 50 years since I lived in Big12 country. As I clearly stated, I've lived in Big12 country since 1977 -- 48 years this coming May. If that makes me a rube, then at least I'm a rube who can read and comprehend.

Bike racer? I used to be involved in bike racing, but as a planner, administrator, and venue coordinator, not a racer. Mostly the Coors Classic, back in the day, but also local races and fun rides. Also was assigned to attend the World Championships in Colorado Springs as an official observer in 1986 and was involved in preparing permits for the filming of American Flyers -- kind of a disappointment, because the screenwriter, Steve Tesich, failed to deliver like he did for his Oscar-winning Breaking Away screenplay.

One of my cousins, a mathematician, worked for Ben Sirotta calculating strength and flex characteristics of the Colorado frame.

Was going to say, how is this different than what UConn has been doing?

I think schools are going to realize that sports in a vacuum aren’t going to drive a windfall profit for most. But when you account for increase in applications, increased exposure, and other tangible benefits that cost real dollars, the willingness to fund athletics becomes more viable.
 
It's amazing how it took over 100 years to make college sports into what they are today but only needed three or four to completely ruin it. Constant realignment, pay for play, opting out mid-season to preserve eligibility, transfer portal/tampering, private equity involvement, cutting sports to the bare bones to avoid paying players. It all sucks.

Honest to god I have no idea how someone could let this b*s* come out of their mouth. Tuition is going through the roof and is partially subsidizing athletic departments so they can build professional sport franchises.

It’s all so broken, stupid and sad.
