Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

Look how everything is lining up:

ACC: Can exit ACC for less than $100 million in 2029/2030
Big 10: media deal expires in 2029/2030
Big 12: media deal expires in 2030
CFP: deal expires in 2031
SEC: media contract expires in 2034

So, by 2026/2027, the conference realignment wheels will be rolling!

The best case scenario for UConn was that the exit fee structure remain in place.

Now, the Big 12 can at least imagine a scenario where they can grab Clemson or FSU or Miami or whoever.

As always, the worst case scenario for us is always the scenario that plays out.
Accepting that, in the end, things will work out to absolutely screw us is oddly comforting.

I absolutely agree that by dangling the carrot of ACC teams, potentially becoming available in the relative near future, the chance of a Big 12 invitation to Connecticut reduces exponentially.

On the other hand, the increased likelihood of ACC defectors, particularly those who have voiced vigorous opposition to our joining that conference, increases the likelihood that we could end up there. Of course, whether the ACC leftovers will actually be worth joining is an open question.

I guess the only solace we can take from the ACC/FSU settlement is that leaving things as they are is a death sentence to us. This settlement appears to open the door to realignment, which will break the status quo. At least there may be an opportunity for us to have a soft landing spot. Of course, it's equally possible, that there will be a consolidation which will, de facto, relegate us to the minor leagues.

I don’t see what any school would leave the ACC to take less money in the Big 12. The ACC still makes more money per school.

The Big 12 is maxed out. That’s why they are courting PE and Yormark is looking to split basketball out.

They won't.

We're cooked.

A G5 level ACC is our ceiling now.

Remember when people said that the ACC GORs can not be broken? Well, they were negotiated away.

Things change in college sports so you have to keep improving for the future and hope the chips fall your way.

I’m not sure I agree with FSU and Clemson getting almost nothing. This was a negotiation where both sides needed to look like they got something. The ACC bought itself a few years of relative quiet, and FSU/Clemson got a workable number that makes leaving the ACC entirely possible. If performance based payments are based on ratings, then they made out there as well. FSU and Clemson will almost always be cashing the biggest checks without making it look like The Boston Colleges and Wakes are being completely extorted.

Where are they going?

We know where UNC and UVa are going - the P2. But where are Clemson and FSU going?

Hopefully its an incredibly embarrassing series of highly public meetings w/o a P2 invite followed by a humbling tour of the B12 with a special deal - a clone of the ACC prize money unbalanced package. The B12 will be getting their media deal repriced at that point while the ACC will be bound to their refreshed deal through spring 2036 (I believe, although was this ever confirm anywhere?). The B12 $$ might not be too much higher in $$, but will it give the big egos at Clemson/FSU the stroking Greensboro wont do?

I can't believe some big mouth moron leaking to Zanetto is what ultimately killed our athletic department.
It was instate political turmoil and a lack of instate appetite for an SMU type deal.

Given FSU decided preference not to be in a conference with us, let's hope they find a home somewhere else.

But, this past season's TV ratings don't support your statements as Big 12 football had more eyeballs then the ACC. This was from a previous post and this includes FSU and Clemson so if Clemson and FSU left, the Big 12 would have far and away better TV ratings than the ACC.

Week 0/1: ACC: 11.002 million, Big 12: 9.443 million
Week 2: ACC: 4.642 million, Big 12: 6.138 million
Week 3: ACC: 4.137 million, Big 12: 4.166 million
Week 4: ACC: 5.311 million, Big 12: 9.035 million
Week 5: ACC: 4.781 million, Big 12: 8.174 million
Week 6: ACC: 5.831 million, Big 12: 4.821 million
Week 7: ACC: 2.580 million, Big 12: 4.642 million

Total viewers: Big 12: 48.857 million viewers, ACC: 38.284 million viewers.

This is a small sample size, but it clearly shows the Big 12 is holding it's own or doing better versus the ACC and the trends continued throughout the season.
This is why we matter. The B12 needs to take a shot at the ACC’s territory. UCF, WVU and Cincy do not come close to taking a real swing at the ACC.

Or maybe now that they can theoretically make SEC type money given the unequal revenue sharing arrangement, they soften their hard stance against UConn and value what we bring other than FB? Maybe not, but interesting to think about how the unequal revenue share might change traditional thinking; including how a school like UConn would not be so dilutive to the top FB brand schools in the ACC.

Big Ten and ACC at 18 members
Big XII and SEC at 16 members
It seems 18 is probably the number unless one of the P2 add more. But I agree, given unequal revenue sharing plus the 3 newbies in the ACC getting nothing, it would seem to make sense to invite UConn now at a greatly reduced cost.

But it is the ACC and the invitation was burned.
