Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

Opinions on the state government aside, the benefits of having a campus in an urban setting like Stamford as opposed to Storrs means you don't need as much land. Buildings are bigger and can house more programs and lecture halls. Can also reduce the number of dorms in an urban campus as more students will be able to find affordable apartments as the total number of housing is more readily available than in Storrs-Mansfield.

It wouldn't be an easy undertaking by any means and there would be a ton of time needed to get it done, but if you are looking for a way to stimulate UConn and the entire state's economic growth in the future, that's where the solution is.

Total pipe dream on my end, but hey, I think it would be great for the school and the state in the longterm.

To be an urban university and a land grant university at the same time is almost a conflict as a land grant university, such as UConn and most state flagships universities are, need land for the agricultural programs, which do still play an important role. U Minnesota, for example, is located in the hear of Minneapolis; but, also owns a huge tract of land on the north side of St. Paul for their agricultural programs.

As for urban living, the 'old' was for students to live in non-university residences in place like Boston and New York; but, do to costs, public relations/conflicts, fostering strong university communities, and money (universities want student to spend money on the school instead of a third party) that trend has flipped and most urban universities like Temple, NYC, BU, Northeastern, and even Emerson are no building their own residences. Such residences can be larger in an urban environment and thsi trend does not apply to 'commuter' schools; but, the top universities now want 75% of their students 'on campus.'

No, no, no. What you do...is build up Tolland county. Stamford sucks for a lot of reasons. It's crowded and it isn't affordable for anyone, let alone a new college grad or student. Traffic is abominable. NYC is exactly the kind of place you want to be 2 hours away from. Close enough to go if you want, far enough to not be affected by it on a daily basis.

Build a real college town. Lure 2-3 companies to the new technology center. With them come employees. Build some houses, some condos, a decent supermarket and movie theater. A freaking Taco Bell and a Burger King. A bowling alley...preferably one like this. Add a few more bars, some with live music. A real college town is a glorious thing.

One of the really interesting things I learned in my three years in Lawrence, KS, was that former students liked it so much that many didn't want to move to KC or St. Louis or Chicago or Dallas. So businesses took advantage of that and the place kept growing.

No Taco Bell in Storrs? There was one back in the '90's as I remember walking over from Alumni several times late at night. Especially the time when a dormmate spike my fruit punch with Tobasco sauce during lunch and as revenge, I added a 'layer' to his Run to the Border order that i picked-up for him consisting of a lubricated, ribbed Trojan (not used, please, I'm not that sick).

In the mid 80's we had Gumby's pizza, Teds grinders, and Wawa hot dogs. That was the sum total of the entire food availability on campus (apart from eating in at Huskies). I think we had Dominoes too, but Gumby's was better. Now if you had a car...Willington Pizza and Chuck's Margaritaville were possible. Kathy Johns too I suppose.

It wasn't much better in the early 2000's. This is pretty much why I have only been back to campus once since I graduated in 2004. It isn't like I moved away either, I have lived in either West Hartford or Boston the entire time. Unless you are going to a basketball game what are you going to do? Take a stroll around campus and a bite to eat at Subway and then go home? Hopefully Storrs Center is just the beginning of the development around campus.

what if, instead of moving Uconn to Stamford, Uconn just bought Rutgers and named it Uconn?

You'd never get the New Jersey smell out, even if you dry cleaned the whole place.

Luxury. When I was there we had Hardees (made the mistake of opening the bun once, the meat was green) and Paul's Pizza horrible burnt black crust more often than not (but to be fair breakfast didn't suck).

Well now I see why the thread title includes "Its all gone to hell" with this relocation diversion.

Building up Tolland County is more of a pipedream than moving the entire school to Stamford. A modest mixed use development was proposed just off Exit 68 and the locals went straight to DEFCON 1.

They're all so stupid. They wouldn't know a good thing if it hit them in the face. The town of Mansfield has held back the school for years, it'd be nice if the state just took eminent domain of the whole town to rid themselves of the that live there.

I live in Mansfield, dammit.

I spent many dollars on cheeseburgers at Irma's(?) trailer parked in the lot across from Life Sciences.

Still there, but was by arjona in 2010-2014. I think it's the same name. Decent bacon egg & cheeses. I usually avoided it due to the lines, though.

When I was there the perception was that Mansfield blocked development and was anti UConn. Doesn't mean its true but that was the narrative.

Why do you think all of the votes are held in July?

fite me irl

I don't fight spoiled, entitled brats who rolled into Storrs on Range Rovers that daddy bought and think that 18 years of getting everything they want handed to them extends them carte blanche when it comes to behaving inappropriately and immaturely in public.

Ask me about my family of "", buddy. Ask me how many thousands of dollars we've given to the athletic department across multiple sports. Ask me how many years we've held season tickets. Ask me how many times one of the "" living in my house has negotiated the signing and extension of Hall of Fame UConn coaches. And just for kicks, ask me about our service on the Downtown Partnership and efforts to hasten development in Storrs Center.

Tool.

Even though yes, I will never forgive the town for blocking the football stadium (they all should sleep with one eye open at night), their policies on Hunting Lodge and the new HS have nothing to do with realignment.

Point the finger at the administration from 1999-2010 and especially Jeff Hathaway.

And for f*7ks sake can we stay on topic.

sore subject, I see. The people that actually work for the University seem to be fine. It's the others that are the problem.

Yep. Suzy's assistant to the assistant to the assistant making 120K is certainly a very hard working person.

Oh, I finally get it! This is the WF Car Wash Range Rover guy? You are right not to fight him, he may stop giving you his inside info. I guess I'm not sure why someone would want to fight in real life over inside info about CR.

I'm guessing you've never been to Rutgers. After their stadium, it's all downhill.
