Just suprising that Arizona & Arizona State want to leave the PAC 12?! I mean the Big 12 isn't exactly a "stable" thing right now...

They're probably going to take the money from 4 teams IMO. Just can't believe Memphis is in the conversation.

Nobody is leaving the Pac12 for the Big 12. The conferences pay out their members identically at this point, so it would be a wash from a purely financial perspective. However, as the only P5 conference with a presence in the Mountain and Pacific Timezones, it's in a position to increase it's value and revenue when the existing TV deal is up.

From a purely competitive perspective, the Pac 12 was one Stanford victory over Oregon away from keeping the Big 12 out of the CFP for a second year in a row. The conference top to bottom is more competitive than the Big 12.

Finally, from a pure stability standpoint, the Pac 12 is going absolutely nowhere. You cannot say that for certainty about the Big 12.
Yeah, hard to see the AZ fan bases accepting the idea that CA, UT, OR and WA will no longer be their rivals and now its OK, TX, IA, KS, WV, etc. There is no way the vast majority in those schools would accept this. And this situation is nothing like Maryland's.

Because their non-dilution clause only is available for teams 11-14, IIRC.
Chip Brown says it is for up to 16 teams. I believe I read that on the CSNBBS board.

Did not know that. That's good news if true. If this is, as many believe, a straight up money grab before Texas and OU leave, I can't imagine not going for a full 16. I'm surprised that we haven't heard it discussed.

I found it in this story:

“I’m hearing that if they’re going to expand, it’s most likely going to be by four rather than two,” Brown said, “because of provisions in the TV contract that call for the TV partners to pay equal share of the revenue right now for up to six schools added to the league.

It would be surprising, if true. I'm not convinced.

I'm not either. FSU and Clemson were dangled in front of the majority of the Big12. If they just held out until the end of the ACC GoR, the Big10 and ACC will take what they want leaving us with the prize we really want: FSU and Clemson. Since that has been taken from them, we get the assurances that the Big12 is expanding. Now, we get rumors of Arizona, ASU and even UCLA aren't happy and would entertain thoughts of joining the Big12 when the Pac12 G0R expires. Is it a last ditch effort to keep the Big12 from expanding?

I think the expansion train has gathered enough speed to stop, but who knows? Maybe a way to limit expansion to two? If the Big10 is truly off the table, I hope you all get one of the spots in the Big12.

I challenge one of you, before ever mentioning U of A or ASU to the Big XII again, to begin your post by stating what percentage of the schools' enrollment comes from California. Because if the post starts with that, the post ends there.

Houston better be in the Big 12. They are jerking their fans around pretty badly on social media this week.
I'm rooting for them not to get in and for their social media folks to be just that stupid.

Possible they can add 5 schools, 4 in all sports and BYU for football?

So how would that work? Would they still take 4. Would they take a BBO to even out that side or perhaps two FBOs. Could we be seeing, Bosie St., BYU as FBOs and UConn and Houston as all sport?

I can see the desire to pick up the best FB team, but I could also seeing Presidents deciding it isn't worth it, especially since BYU has it's own network so what are talking about only 6 games a year? For how big a share?

Big 12 Update‏@Big12Update

Lyell: Big 12 doesn't need CSU to 'own' TV market

Nobody’s going to pretend that CSU owns the Denver TV market.
The University of Colorado doesn’t “own” it, either.

In today’s world of conference expansion that kind of ownership of a TV market no longer matters. Colorado State University doesn’t have to be the dominant program in the region to “deliver” the nation’s 17th-largest television market to the Big 12 Conference. It simply has to provide a foothold that would help get a new Big 12 television network on the cable and satellite packages available to viewers in the Denver area.

CSU clearly can do that. Just like CU does for the Pac-12 Network.

The Rams have made the kind of commitment to athletics the Big 12 is looking for, with a new $220 million on-campus stadium set to open in 2017, high-profile coaches with salaries and budgets that rival those of some schools in Power 5 conferences and a stated goal from university President Tony Frank to raise the level of the school’s athletic programs to the level of its academic programs.

And the academic programs at CSU are comparable to those of the schools already in the Big 12, a critical factor for the university presidents who will be making the decisions about which schools, if any, to add to their conference.

Geography might not play the role in college conference alignments that it once did, but it can’t be ignored, either. TV viewers in Colorado are a lot more likely to tune in to a Big 12 network, no matter which teams are playing, than viewers in Connecticut, Ohio, Tennessee, Florida, Louisiana and even Utah will be.

UC's Tuberville says Big 12 Expansion is all about money

"It's all about money," Cincinnati head football coach Tommy Tuberville said. "We've got everybody in place to make that move, but if it doesn't happen it'll happen sooner or later."

"We'll rest on our accomplishments and academics and athletics," Tuberville said.
"You don't go out and advertise for it. *
If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, we're excited about being in the AAC."

Hmmmm, this is a pretty Benedictian like comment--almost as though they haven't even done presentations yet.

Maybe they have and its a beggar thy neighbor situation. Such as:

Cincy, "Gentlemen we would like to staart our presentation....."
Big 12, "No need for that, what's your bottom line minimum amount you will take, if we invite you......."

Interesting expansion tidbit: According to ESPN, when the Big12 added TCU & WVU in 2011, the other finalists were Louisville, BYU and Tulane

Anyone wanting to know where I got the 2011 Big12 expansion candidate list from, check the 11th paragraph:
Report: Missouri hoping for invitation from SEC

Jeff Cobb ‏@Jeffery_Cobb · 7h7 hours ago  West Virginia, USA
@theDudeofWV Maybe the Big 12 is using the "threat" of including Tulane in the expansion to get more $$ out of the networks. Bargaining chip

IMO, with exception of BYU, the B12 should only be considering expansion candidates East of the Mississippi river
