Of course not. What are effectively mid-major programs like Seton Hall, St Johns, Providence have one more major in their way now. That was the beauty of the New Big East for those schools. They could get credit for winning without having to really beat anybody but Villanova. They got the benefit of being in a legacy league.

What a loser’s mentality to think it’s bad for your program when a historically good team close to you geographically joins your league.
What message does this send to top recruits in the area? “Ah we had a good thing going but now UConn’s here boo hoo we’re gonna suck now”
Like what? Lmao

Imagine Dan Hurley saying this lol

I respect Seton Hall and what they’ve achieved in recent years. But boy are BC and Seton Hall loser programs.

EDIT: It would’ve been nice of the reporters to mention initially this is Willard’s sense of humor.

Someone needs to remind him that having Duke, NC State and UNC in even closer proximity in the same league hasn't seemed to hurt recruiting and success.
BC College seemed to have the same inferiority complex about UConn and look what their "safe haven" status as the only ACC team in New England has achieved for them.

It has absolutely hurt NC State to be getting whipped for players by Duke and UNC. And Seton Hall isn't Duke or UNC. They're not even NC State. They're a regional school who is now going to have to start focusing on lesser talent because we're going to consistently beat them for the best guys they want.

Who doesn’t want their own conference to improve? What a loser.

Willard has a similar approach to Edsall. While he may not be wrong about certain things, the big picture is you need flexibility for all the unknowns, which are almost certainly coming your way. He doesn’t seem to be nimble enough to make those adjustments. Chief has been around enough of teams to know the players pick up on these vibes and it’s not a good mindset for the players.
I get it, Chief has been down to Jersey enough in the grind to know we are beating him at recruiting but doubt this negativity will help him.

From a recruiting standpoint, NJ/NY has 18 Top 150 players in the 2020/2021 classes which doesn't include the kids that are going to prep schools in New England. UConn has 3 of those players so there are plenty of opportunities for Seton Hall to find local players.

The real issue Willard should focus on is that the Big East used to dominate recruiting in NY and NJ and it hasn't the last few years. UConn coming back to the Big East will raise the profile of the league and hopefully keep more top players in the Big East. Willard should than UConn for that.

CallMeBruce - Seton hall is a much better program than NC State - not even close
Willard is just elevating UConn to a higher level in the recruits eyes by "complaining". If UConn received an invite to a P5, the recruitment in that area would improve for UConn.
There's a renewed big fish in the party.
I like KW but he has to pull up his big boy pants and deal with it - he will be able to get some of the table scraps.
You don't hear Mike Anderson complaining

Are we talking historically or presently? Historically, NC State is a vastly better program than Seton Hall and it isn’t even close
