Looking like the Aces and Sky are the teams to beat. Chicago is scary. Cooper dropped 23 and pulled down 14 boards. Meesseman, I have always loved her game, looked great in this game. She was just on a different level. Dallas could be a dangerous team down the stretch. 11-12 games left. Whoever playing that Dallas squad better bring their A game. Mabrey put Allenmand in the spin cycle with a sweet move and drained the 3 point shot!

The Sky are just so deep and don't rely on just one player. Against Atlanta Candace Parker scores 31pts and they win by 15. The next game at LA Parker scores 0 and they win by 12. Then they go to Dallas and win a close game while Vandersloot sits out. They have 6 players averaging double digits. Their bench with Stevens/Allemand/Gardner is deep and good.

Sun made it interesting, but Aces hold on. Plum/Gray/Wilson all w/ 20 or more.

With that, Seattle slips 1/2 game ahead of Connecticut for #3 in the standings.

I'll give a shout out to Gray. I'm far from her biggest fan, but she was really good today. 21 points, 9 assists, several of her dishes were sick. Really had control of this game, especially in the 2nd half.

AT did grab 14 rebounds and had 6 assists, but 9 TOs, only 1 FG and 5 points. With JJ being out they needed her to step up, and that is not what she did. Bonner got hot for a while but then disappeared. Heideman and Williams hit some 3's down the stretch to make it close.

The big story was TOs and points off TOs. Last I saw it was a huge 33-6 advantage for LV in that department. Game over.

That Chelsea Gray saved the Aces today. When the Sun was trapping Plum earlier in the game, that took the Aces out of their normal flow. Chelsea Gray's passing ability, decision making, and shot making was very helpful. The Aces are joy to watch. Coach Hammon letting the players have that freedom to play loose and it shows.

Meanwhile, my beloved Minnesota Lynx are struggling against the Mystics. We started off good. That 1st quarter looked great. 2nd quarter and now 3rd quarter, we just do not look that good. Which is sad considering we have, and still do, a chance to get into that 7th or 8th spot of the standings. Inch up a little bit each game, hopefully.

Yeah. Gray stepped up in this game. She had some really great passes.

Powers was insanely hot for 3-4 games, but that couldn't last. Jefferson's production has really fallen off a cliff recently too.

Continues to be fairly significant stratification. You've got 1-5, then a gap, 6-11 jammed together...then Indiana in a class of their own. Not the good kind of class though.

I've only been halfway watching. Seattle got off to a slow start, then took control by halftime. But they've let Indiana back in the game in Q3. Was down to 3 a second ago, but now back up to 7.

Stewie/Loyd/Ezi all in double figures, nobody else scoring for the Storm. Stewie has 19.

Cannon lighting it up w/ 14. She does that every once in a while.

Bird got a nasty poke in the eye in the first half, but she didn't have to come out of the game.

I was hoping that Powers found her shooting groove after that 34-point game against Phoenix the other day. But she struggled against Dallas and really didn't shoot much against Indiana. Really did not need her offensive game since McBride and Fowles had nice games going. Not sure what is going on with Mo Jeff.

I was hoping that my beloved Minnesota Lynx found their groove and was going to make a push to get Sylvia one last playoff run but with 9 or 10 games left, I do not think they can do it for Sylvia. That slow start, injuries, not having everyone back from overseas, and Sylvia getting hurt, really did not help much. Oh well. They just have to finish the season out strong.

Seattle pulling away late. I've had the sound off the entire game. Charles got going, I didn't even realize it. I must've thought most of her buckets were actually Ezi. Stewie w/ a game high 25. Not gonna matter today, but Bird and Gabby combining for 2 points is not good.

Storm now a full game up on Connecticut and only 2 games back of Chicago. Creeping up. Have a showdown with the Sky coming up soon.

If by chance Mercedes Russell is cleared to play and gets in game shape, Seattle could be 10 deep for the playoffs.
That would give Seattle Stewie, Ezi, and Gabby to start, Russell, Tina, and Talbot off the bench. Bird, Jewell, January, and Prince a good rotation.

Curious why you're not a fan of Chelsea Gray. She's been a top 3 PG in the WNBA for half a decade now, and is one of the most clutch shot makers in the league. She also had a pretty good Olympics in 2021, and I wouldn't be surprised if she starts for the team at PG in the upcoming world cup (In fact, I would not be surprised if it's an all aces backcourt with Plum).

She takes unnecessarily difficult shots ALL THE TIME. Loves the fadeaway, even when a defender is nowhere near. Does it with her passing too. She likes to go w/ the spectacular rather than what will get the job done. It makes highlight reels, but it also leads to some missed shots and turnovers. The last 2 years w/ LA in the playoffs, I felt like both her and Parker mailed it in and pretty much quit on their team. Maybe they both needed a change of scenery and have gotten a new lease on life, but I don't forget about stuff like that. Also I know they are very different players and I can't expect everybody to be the same, but Plum is all out energy all game long, every moment she is on the court. Gray picks and chooses her moments and to me she is guilty of loafing sometimes. Gray is also a chronic over dribbler. She'll pound the life out of the ball on some possessions. Plum usually makes the decision to shoot, drive or pass fairly quickly. And Plum drives w/ purpose. Sometimes Gray likes to take a nice scenic tour of one entire half of the court, not really getting anywhere during the process.

There, am I crazy or are some of those criticisms legit?

My eyes are playing tricks on me. Something looks seriously wrong w/ that cat.

I'm sure I just got on your list for my comments about Chelsea.

No, you're fine...no list. There are lists for other things, but making criticisms about my favorite player isn't one of them.... as least not yet. :p

I'm just thrilled she has stayed healthy for the most part since she arrived in the WNBA, and has gotten the experience of winning both a WNBA title and an Olympic Gold Medal. Definitely rooting for the Aces to win it this season.

It was obvious no one was happy at the end of the Fisher/Parker/Gray tenure in LA. If you want to hold that against them, that's fine I guess, I just think their overall careers speak much more to who they are/style of play than a couple bad years.

Gray and Plum are very different players; totally fine to prefer one's style of play over the other. I'm glad Plum is peaking and showing how awesome she can be. As I said, I'd be happy if they are the starting Olympic backcourt.

I agree that Gray showed well in the last Olympics and would expect her to be on the team next time around. I certainly hope Plum gets to join the 5X5 team after a successful stint with 3X3.

I would expect Gray, Plum, Loyd, and wait and see on a 4th guard. Hopefully EDD is healthy so the World has to worry about EDD and Stewie on the wings with A'ja in the middle. Those six would probably beat anyone in the world.

Unpopular opinion and something that won’t happen, but I’d go Gardner over Howard for ROY. +18 in FG% (!) Howard is ahead in scoring by about 6 points but her FG% is poor, especially for a big guard, and Gardner has efficiently capitalized on what was at first a limited opportunity given Chicago’s extensive talent and depth.

Howard was way ahead in scoring, but now Smith isn't that far behind her, w/ better FG% and about double the rebounds. Indiana is really struggling and Atlanta is in the thick of the playoff race, but ROY seems to be the one award where team record isn't much of a factor.

I can see how you can make that case, but when you look deeper into the numbers you see that Howard takes twice as many shots and about six times as many threes. Plus she is definitely often a main priority for the opponents defense. I really like what I have seen from Gardner but it's hard to overlook how impactful Rhyne has been with a traditionally bottom feeder (as of late) Dream team, that's is currently in the running of playoff contention.
