Charles is about to get her first start for Seattle. In place of Ezi, that's not what @baggerbob has been calling for. 4/5 of their starting lineup is UConn alums.

Oh man. I forget this is Tina Charles matchup game as well. Should be interesting. Looking forward to seeing how she plays against her old Phoenix teammates.

I found this article from earlier this month so Alyssa Thomas isn't on there yet and I can't remember if anything happened in between July 7th an now. But this year is by far the most triple doubles in a year. There was almost a decade with no triple doubles and only two seasons with multiple triple doubles, one of which was last season.

That's what I was thinking. Parker and Ionescu are tied for the most in a career w/ 3 each. Tells you there just haven't been very many in league history. Kind of an explosion of them this season.

.-.
No surprise Seattle is hurting Phoenix w/ their size, but Merc responding by bombing away from 3. On pace for a high scoring affair.

Seattle can't win a championship with Gabby as a starter. They really need to get rid of their entire coaching staff. You don't sit your best defender, and keep playing someone who brings no offense to the team.

That's CRAZY! 1/3 of all triple doubles have been just this season.
Yeah it doesn't make sense. I could understand if it was just one person who was doing it but multiple getting triple doubles all of a sudden with no real significant rule changes is really bizarre.

The scoring pace dropped way off. Tied at 21 thru Q1.

.-.
This one living up to the hype so far. Stewie with 16 pts 10 rebounds at half (and she missed 3 super bunnies as well) Diana bringing her A game 15 pts, 4 RB, 5 Assists at half.

Turner hit Loyd w/ a nasty elbow in the head on a screen. They called the foul, but never bothered to look at it on the monitor to upgrade to Flagrant 1 (it clearly was). That seemed to get Jewell fired up.

Is Bird gonna show up to this party? 1 FGA w/ 6 minutes left.

Stewie having a monster game but she's gone quiet in Q4.

Diggins-Smith and Taurasi have combined for 51.

.-.
It's just one game, but the move to the bench is absolutely not working for Ezi. Charles had been providing some scoring punch from the reserves, today they have none.

Dagger 3 from Sophie, Merc up 11. About 4 minutes left. Storm look dead in the water, Q4 has been all Phoenix.

Make it 14. Game over. Almost 60 from SDS and Taurasi (1 more bucket will do it).

Jeez, 25-6 in Q4, even worse than I thought.

Phoenix is beating Seattle w/ 3 players. The Big 2 plus Cunningham has 19.

30-6. Probably the worst quarter in franchise history. What the heck happened?

.-.
So other than a revenge game on her return to Phoenix, what was the impetus for changing the starting lineup? The Storm had been winning games. Seems like a classic case of outsmarting yourself.

Seattle put a tiny bit of window dressing on it. 94-78 final. It wasn't that close. Absolutely abysmal 4th quarter.

That 4th quarter was an absolute romp. Taurasi, Cunningham and Diggins-Smith all looked laser focused and like they were playing with more motivation tonight. Had to feel good getting a win like that over Charles and Seattle. When DT is dialed in it's quite impressive what she can do at 40 years old. 28 points, 7 boards and 7 assists.

The decision to move Magbegor to the bench tonight is puzzling at best by Quinn. Seattle has talent but I think they'll have a hard time in the playoffs matching up against teams that are younger and better balanced. And I don't think Quinn is a championship coach, but we'll see how it all plays out.

Lindsey Allen was, in fact, signed to a 7-day contract by Cheryl Reeve and the Minnesota Lynx and got just under 19 minutes of action, finishing with a line of 9 pts., 7 assists and 4 rebounds. Damaris Dantas is listed as out for "personal reasons." Somewhat surprised to see a point guard signed as a replacement for a stretch forward, but maybe Coach Reeve wants some strictly pg-backup for MoJeff. Who knows.

In any case, Allen has been on the shelf since being a late cut by the Fever, who probably decided to go with Danielle Robinsons and Destinni Henderson. Allen had a great year in the Aussie league, winning the championship for the Melbourne Boomers, being named playoff MVP and overall 2nd-team All-League.

Weill see what happens for a smart, professional point guard.

I think that Quinn started Charles to appease her for the "homecoming." Agree that with your top 2 scorers (that take a lot of shots) starting, it makes more sense to start an exceptional defender (Ezi) and have your 3rd most productive scorer providing punch from the bench. It seems as though Seattle has 2 of the best front court defenders in the WNBA, but have been susceptible to guards going off during their last 3 losses (Chicago & Atlanta had guard scoring off the bench as well the starters).

Dillon77, do you think that the acquisition of Allen is a sign that because of Collier's body's recovery/Minnesota's position in the standings, that she won't rejoin the team until next year?
