Yeah but:
  1. This is the big leagues. Things operate differently at this level.
  2. Far more pressure to win immediately than any of the other places. T
  3. hese aren't his guys. And a few aren't high major guys.
  4. He did the right thing last year. This year, he'll give very honest evaluations about lack of playing time. Some kids won't want to be stuck on the end of the bench.
And really what I was referring to is how every program of consequence operates. You gotta over recruit. Or you'll eventually find yourself in KO situations, trying to make up ground late.

It’s not quite true that he’s never had a transfer. He had two guys leave as grad transfers (both went to lower levels), and he had a little-used sophomore that transferred the same year (also went to a lower level). The grad transfers were regular transfers he had brought in in to sit out during his first year at URI. They moved on as the talent upgrade happened.
What is true is that he’s never lost a guy to transfer that he didn’t want to. URI was also really limited his first years there because of APR concerns, so there was a reason to limit player movement. He’ll be incredibly honest with the returning guys, but he’s also not going to fundamentally change who he is as a coach and teacher.

It seems every transfer men's and women's the last couple years has been granted a waiver so they don't have to sit out a year. Any chance here?

Ft record, I never said he'd pull anybodies scholarship deliberately. He won't. He'd just tell guys they aren't going to play.

We got off on a tangent, my original post said: you recruit as if you have multiple scholarships avaible. If enough free up, you take everybody, if not you go w highest priority recruits.

I purposefully left aside how they free up. That's totally independent of the recruiting side. They might not free up for whatever reason, but you have to act as if they will so you aren't scrambling

There were some stories in early 2018 about them potentially loosening transfer rules when a coach gets fired but not sure if that went anywhere. Feel like @tcf15 might have some thoughts

The NCAA legislation that had that potential change has not been voted on yet... they got the portal in the meantime but no automatic immediate eligibility.
