Despite what many of our basketball only fans think, Hurley most likely comprehends that the long term future of UConn basketball is likely related to the success of the football program.
Back when we were in the process of moving to IA from IAA, Calhoun was quoted as understanding the importance of and supporting the move to Big Time Football. Many people were asking the question of how important it was, and should we do it, and Jim emphatically said yes.

The coaches of every sport know the importance of having football be competitive. Football is the only way to get into the big boy money so if football continues to compete that does nothing but make every other sport more attractive to the P4

You'd be surprised at how short sighted some folks are.

I remember when the conventional wisdom on this board was that it's too hard to generate a passing game "up here" and we should continue to focus on Lombardi football. We did that. Not only did we lose, the fans hated it so we tried to shame them into being better fans. That worked out great. It's nice to see this staff and this QB dispel another widely accepted lazy take.

You think that the fact that we threw really well in two games in mid-50s fall weather eliminates the beliefs that, in parts of the country, you have to be able to run effectively on cold late November days? That we’ve had one effective throwing QB in 22 years means that it’s as easy to recruit QBs in our region as it is other positions? O.K.

Newsflash. When you get a QB that can pass the ball, he will be effective passing the ball. This one came from FCS Maine where its colder than here. No QB we ever brought in here that couldn't pass here when they saw the field went and tore it up elsewhere.

If year after year you are trotting out offenses where the intent seems to be run, run, pass, punt, QBs are not going to trip over themselves to come here. The 1st step is to design an offense that kids want to play in.

Remember the old Boneyard lie that you couldn’t have a passing offense in southern New England?

They sure throw the ball am awful lot in Michigan.

KC is windier at all times than New England and it gets frigidly cold.

Buffalo?

The whole “you can’t pass in the cold and wind” lie needs to go away.

We’re officially living in an alternate timeline…Saban, Gruden, et al. I’m was watching MACtion, and they posted and talked about Fagnano stats on the full screen with a ‘Who is this guy’ theme during the Buffalo game tonight…hyping the UConn/ game on Saturday. Hyping UConn. Unreal.

Yeah I remember going to the Rice game last year and vehemently asking for Joe Fagnano to get in and take out Evers. It was so obvious last year that Joe F. had a better chance to be good than Evers but all that NIL money we wasted was taking precendence.
did we just take Nick's NIL money away? lol i never thought about this, but I cannot imagine he's raking in the cash by sitting on the bench.

I thought 7th year was insane but watching a Duke game earlier this year, they had an 8th year player. I always think of the animal house line. "Seven years of college down the drain"

We had a six year guy on the 4th floor of Hanks Hall back in the day. He was kind of the king of the floor.

But unless UConn is willing to pay $1 million a year or more they will have to get “lucky” in the portal with an up and coming QB. I think QBs are the hardest position to fill.
