Jaylin Stewart staying put at UConn

I hope AK doesnt come back. He really gains absolutely nothing coming back. It’s time for him to move on. My selfish side would take him back but it’s time for him to move on he owes no one anything.
I don’t understand this game. He gains another year of playing basketball for Uconn while making 1.5M+.

Thats not absolutely nothing.

Anyone who doesn’t want Karaban back should be cast into the sun.
Definitely want him back. Money talks, so he needs to weigh maybe NBA versus definitely NIL. Karaban, Stewart, Reed, Ball, and maybe Mahaney and Ross would form a nice returning nucleus along with the 4 incoming freshmen. Two portal combo/PGs and a power forward make 13, with 2 scholarships in reserve.

The Solo, Ross, Stewie, and Reed nucleus is gonna hit like crack.

Well revisit this next year when that group is killing it.
Accompanied by 3 McDonald’s All-Americans and hopefully the best big guard that enters the portal. Mahaney back for the Joey Calcaterra Role? That’s 9-deep as need immediately. Solo and Mahaney the only players under 6’5.

We need to get more athletic and better off the bounce finishing. There will be more players portaling.

Think it’s best for everyone if he started his professional career. Got to give Stewie the space to have his breakout year.
No. Just no. You’re pulling the classic “put in the back up qb!” stuff again. We know what Karaban’s probable ceiling and floor look and I’ll take his floor over Stewart’s potential ceiling any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Being enamored with potential and making room is fool’s gold.

Excited to see how it shakes out

We’ll see man.

We’ve seen this with Hawkins coming on after Tyrese Martin, Clingan after Sanogo, Solo this year.

It’s really not a hard projection to make. Guys just need the space to actually play up to their potential.

You said the same stuff last year we cannot afford to bank on soph-jun jumps or jun-sen jumps. Unless we’re willing to be a borderline top 25 team.

I’m not sure what you mean. I’ve been saying for awhile we didn’t bank our season on a class that didn’t start 2/3 guys.

I’m confident that when they are in positions to lead they will do just fine.

I'm not sure what you were watchng but by the end of the year he was one of best defensive players and the metrics back it up. You just have some very strange takes. Do you even know anything about basketball or just like to say some crazy stuff to get a reaction?

He had a DRtg of 110.9, which is abysmal. Saying "the metrics back it up" without providing the metrics means you made it up.

You and I will never meet, so why do you attack me personally all the time on this board? I doubt anyone else pays attention to your utterly forgettable posts, but you really come across as one of those pathetic people that think they will get more cred by going after a regular poster. It's really weak.

Pumped about this. Stewie played his best in the biggest games, and that's something you just can't teach. He needs to hit the weight room hard, improve his defense, and let 'er rip next season. I predict a much more confident JStew on a longer leash. I expect him to flourish when he's playing loose and not out there trying to avoid mistakes.

He can make more in the NBA or overseas especially if he turns out to be a good pro. We`ll see.

Soph-jun and jun-sen jumps led to two national championships... It just didn't come together this year. Doesn't mean player development won't continue for next year's squad.

He could make more money leaving or he could make less money leaving. Staying he has a very good idea of how much he will make and it's a lot, he has a tough decision.
If money is his deciding factor then hes better off going pro. If he sneaks into the first round he could get 12m over 4 years guaranteed. As a 2nd rounder if he plays well in pre draft workouts can still get a nice contract worth more. If he doesnt care about money and enjoys being in college and wants another shot at a title then he should stay.

Very happy for Stewie to come back! He’s always full of positive energy on the court.

Some observations about his defense. He usually stands tall with his hands up. This leads to faster reaction times when the ball handler shoots — note, he gets quite a few blocks as a result. The downside is when the ball handler spins and tries to drive by he’s a bit slower to react, often leading to getting beat on the dribble or being driven by. I hope the coaches can work on his footwork to find balance with a wider stance and a more crouched position to react quicker. I’m no pundit on this — just a person that used to play recreational bball in the past.
He’s blocked 18 shots in 72 games. Think the “quite a few” is a bit hyperbolic.

Very happy to have Stewie back there’s a ton there. Huge summer for this kid his potential is still waiting to fly out and I fully expect he will get there.

On his defense he just needs to get more consistent, quit guessing too. We’ve seen him lock down a few guys and then have a bit of matador in him. I prefer to focus on the fact he can be a good defender and another summer will bring that back with him.

Good start!
