Hopkins is the best player in the conference. I’ve seen enough. He’s masking a lot for providence offensively
Hopkins really is the #1 transfer in the country. I would go Sanogo as BE POY, but I would not argue if they gave it to Hopkins. Having said that he might have gotten away with an offensive foul on that drive against Alexander

McDermott just threw a curveball. Completely left Kalkbrenner to play free safety in the middle of the paint. 1 man zone. Doesn't care about Providence's guards getting a 3 off the dribble in PnR whatsoever.
No Kalkbrenner has been doing that almost the entire game

Croswell just held his hands up in the air for about 30 seconds after a foul call. AJax would have 5 technicals if he did half the stuff PC does.
Your PC hate is real....kinda funny. Last yr PC was lucky, this yr they get all the call....what will it be next season.

I think other teams game plans have to include forcing Hopkins to be play D, his D really is not good. his offensive is all that though.

their MO is to shoot 30 FT's a game. If they don't, they have a tough time winning. Good job by Creighton to keep their feet and go straight up or just get out of the way altogether.

I'm going to try that on Tuesday when I coach my next game. Put my best offensive player (who is also my second tallest player) in the middle of the zone and then play man with the other 4. Protect the rim, get some blocks, preserve energy for offense.

And now, some sanity from @Storrs South:

Huge PC game going on at the moment and there's a PC fan coming over to a UConn board and wondering what UConn fans are thinking.
Well, yeah. And we do have a pretty fair rivalry with the Fryers.

I have every confidence that Deepster spends a considerable amount of time pooping on the rugs over on their board, too.

So you're saying taking after Deepster is the way to go??

No way Sanogo is BE POY unless he starts playing better. He has been outplayed in 5 of our 7 conference games. Wahab, Dixon, Crosswell, Nunge, Ichodaro.

Report back to us what excuses your fans are using on your board.
Lol I checked their board. When they get 30 more FTs at home (see Marquette in December) or 1/3 the fouls (see our game before the numerous 'evening out' calls when the game was already over) they think refs were solid and their guys more aggressive to draw fouls.

When they have only 6 fewer FTs, the same BE refs are hosing them. Something like: "I'm not saying the refs lost us the game, but did you see those refs?..." All that over 6 FTs.

I see UConn get favorable calls. The difference between me and the Providence board today is that I'll admit it when I see it. I haven't seen much of our BB board, but hopefully we're better than that for close games.

Providence Creighton. Very little outside scoring, teams shooting 18 and 21 % from 3. So where are the points? Providence (Hopkins and guards) basically bull their way into the lane for layups and fouls, bodies flying and it’s tolerated. Not a lot of finesse to that offense but it keeps them in games. We on the other hand avoid contact except for Sanogo. We are a good 3 point shooting team but our guards are going to have to get physical in this league. We’ll figure out the tourney when we get there. I’m putting this on Newton and Alleyne to get to the line.

Yeah like last year twice against St. John's. I remember SJU was getting hosed at Gampel and UConn was fortunate to get that foul call on Sanogo so he could hit the tying FT to send it to OT and then win. Same goes for the missed travel call on Cole at MSG late in the game which was similar to Gillespie's travel which was called in Hartford. In any case, SJU just didn't go enough to win either game the same way UConn didn't do enough (missing wide open 3s) against Providence.

Having said all of that, I hope UConn crushes St. John's tomorrow and yes Providence got a very favorable whistle in their home game against UConn which I attended and saw first hand. There were numerous innocous (spelling) plays in today's Providence-Creighton game where Providence players were slipping and falling down with almost no contact with a Creighton player, but in this game they didn't get the calls, rightfully they didn't, whereas they did in the UConn game.

Our style of play certainly transfers better to March. Our shooting the past week has gone cold but I expect we’ll break out of this little slump and be fine when it matters most. We don’t need Newton and Hawkins going off every game, but we need at least one of them to show up every game. When we get less than 15-20 pts from them combined we’re in trouble. I also think our team is trying to figure out the intensity of our defense. Early in the season (out of conference) our defensive intensity was a 9 or 10. Once BE play started we were clearly sent a signal that we can’t play our style of defense in the “physical big east”. Against Marquette it seemed like we were trying a bit harder not to foul but then lost our defensive edge. Marquette also hit some circus shots which didn’t help. The season wouldn’t be any fun if we didn’t have both ups and downs. You need to take some losses to grow as a team. I expect PC to finish somewhere 5-8 in the final standings, they’re not that good.

Dependence on favorable officiating rarely translates well into March. Note Providence's anemic March performance under Cooley.

OK, but remember getting into the lane and to the hoop is one thing, getting to line is another. They control the former, someone else controls the latter.
