Jalen Carey will announce October 11th

Hard to believe he has starred on 3 Olympic Gold Medal teams, seeing as how he plays no defense. I can't imagine what they see in him.

Meh, for one, it was hyperbole. And two he's dynamic on offense. If you can shoot, you can play in the Olympics. Besides, anyone can be hidden on D to a degree.

If you think Melo's a good defender, I don't know what to tell you. He's bad.

EDIT: see Davey's link above. Numbers, numbers, numbers...

Based on the posts about the Kyrie trade, numbers are just evil devil magic that must be ignored for the untrained eye of a random fan.

FIFY

I feel like chief has a trademark on that "casual fan" line.

I don't need to steal his to make my point.

But fair enough. lol

I was just making fun of him and his trademark, not your point.

Oh i got it.

Just had to give credit where credit was due.

Is this the time to lock this thread or change it to the Melo thread. Long time between now and Oct 11th and the rails are coming off this one.

Also, another analogy: if you were applying for a job you wouldn't broadcast the fact that you saw it as a stepping stone for your real coveted job that you hoped to land in two years.

If it was an unpaid internship you might be open about saying you were taking it to pursue a more lucrative opportunity in the future, because it's obvious to them and you, and concealing it just makes you seem fake.

Stats do lie, especially defensive stats. Two of those stats are based on plus/minus. What do you think happens to defensive plus/minus numbers if you are average on defense but your backup who plays against other team's backups is a quite good defender? Makes you look lousy. Also, it's well-documented that opposing 3pt% against is a fluky metric. You can really only bother shooters by being close, whether they make it or not comes down almost entirely to chance and the individual sample sizes are too small. See here. That will affect both the differential number and the plus/minus.

I'm not saying Carmelo is a +defender, I'd definitely agree he is not (especially last year).

That's one way of looking at it. I am not suggesting that anyone hide the fact that they are ultimately seeking a pro career. Far from it. I don't think all goals need to be set in stone nor is it necessary or advisable to tell the whole world that you think that you can enter the draft in two years and are expecting to. Why does that goal have to be public?
You could find out for instance that your skills, talents and self assessment need to be reevaluated in light of the experience of playing at the next level. Self confidence is wonderful. Script writing where you are going to be in two years for public consumption maybe not.

Net neutral for me. Positive attitude and goal setting versus cockiness and inaccurate or unrealistic assessment.

Only way to know what's behind statements is to follow these kids actions. Do they enter program and coast or do they work their butts off to get better? And if they coast do they have the talent and skills to make it at the next level and are just buying time because of the NBA format?

Look where it has gone in 3 days lmao

Just 3 more weeks!!

Thanks for the update. All in on Matthews?
Hope so. Then we're out of schollies. But I'm sure the staff knows Adams and larrier are gone after this season. Maybe a transfer (hopefully not)

NEXT
This is funny. We're in the final 2. He wont announce until 10/11...and we're already Next'd? I put our chances at like 45%. Sure we're an underdog, but I hope the coaching staff is still trying.

Miami and Cute have been in to see him every other day this week. Crickets from the staff. Have a feeling it is down to just those two.

The only way Zionn is right is if he gave a silent early verbal. Time will tell.

if the staff told him that they can get him into the NBA in 2 yrs then I dont want him. He is 6'3" with a 6'6" wingspan. Can't play point, can do everything good but none great. He is not a knock down shooter. Otherwords no NBA type skills yet. I see alot of these peak in HS and never improve much after that. I think he is a Jerome clone with a better J but less intensity on defense and athleticism. He cant drive like Jerome either
