If he isn't he will certainly learn how here.Fantastic get- is he a good defender too?

That'll change once they update their rankings again and he's on the list. They don't update rankings every time someone commits, that would be crazyI see 247 has listed our 4th recruit but gave him 0 points. It would seem these "experts" should be able to slot JF in somewhere and assign him some realistic point total based on his performance in some serious international competition.

Whatever you say. Was Newton the biggest, strongest, most athletic on the court ? No, he wasn't. He had effort and desire.Yes, that along with size, strength, and athleticism.
I hope he can/does that’ll be great for his development to get a jump on next season but I think bc if the current scholly situation he’ll have to wait till early 2025 to actually signDoes anyone know if he can come in spring semester like Karaban did? Their school year schedule is different than ours and read the school year ends in December.
Rebounding may be a very big concern! Time will tell..UConn out-rebounded URI 41-40. Until Tom Moore retires there is no need to ever worry about a UConn team rebounding, especially offensive rebounds
Zagoria weighs in on Furphy at about 30:45. Says a few things we haven’t heard, including comps. I know we love comps.
Why? We have an open scholarship.I hope he can/does that’ll be great for his development to get a jump on next season but I think bc if the current scholly situation he’ll have to wait till early 2025 to actually sign
Newton was also a 6'5" PG, that's an advantage, especially in college.Whatever you say. Was Newton the biggest, strongest, most athletic on the court ? No, he wasn't. He had effort and desire.
Newton was underrated on his defense. He took a lot of charges and had very quick feet- if the guy he was defending ever got around him, Newton usually was able to get back in good position and cut him off.Newton was also a 6'5" PG, that's an advantage, especially in college.
Look, I’m not saying the desire and technique doesn’t have a big impact on rebounding. But having positional size is also really advantageous. Newton, Castle, and Clingan had really good positional size. That is definitely a big factor in why we did so well on the boards. I think it’s also fair to question, with a smaller team this year, whether rebounding can still be a big advantage for this team. We’ve got questions to answer there.Whatever you say. That's true, but haven't we seen evidence that they often don't rate the international players or, if they do, rate them below the domestic players? That'll change once they update their rankings again and he's on the list. They don't update rankings every time someone commits, that would be crazy
I don't think that happens, at least not on 247. Egor Demin came over late this year and was ranked 16th. Illinois got 2 guys from Croatia and Lithuania who were ranked 36th and 51stThat's true, but haven't we seen evidence that they often don't rate the international players or, if they do, rate them below the domestic players?
Or am I thinking about football and in our case the linemen we've brought in?
So your saying he will know his way to and from Ted’s unlike Cam Spencer? He looks like he’s just left a bar brawl is in the middle of one or on his way up a pre scheduled one.
Some guys get around this with hops and a pair and a nose for the ball.Look, I’m not saying the desire and technique doesn’t have a big impact on rebounding. Not a good comparison because often pros are not asked to rebound whereas at Uconn just about everybody is expected toI’m with the group that believes Tom Moore and staff will make the rebounding work. I’m also with the group that believes rebounding is mostly about size and strength first, along with proximity to the basket when the shots go up. Looking at all time NBA rebounding and all time NCAA rebounding leaders, there’s not a guard in the top 25 of either list. John Stockton had heart and desire, yet doesn’t make the list’s top 250 despite being #5 in games played. Hunger and technique are important too, but let’s be realistic
Barkley never won a title and gets ripped to shreds on TNT by the guys weekly because he never did.For fun, I'll argue technique and crazy competitiveness can overcome size.
Rodman won seven rebound titles. He was 6'7" and a little crazy.
Jordan said he was the best rebounder in the League.
Even Barkley won a title--only 6'5", but determined.
It can be done.
Now imagine Barkley but he’s 6’10….For fun, I'll argue technique and crazy competitiveness can overcome size.

Add Kemba to that list, who at 6-1 averaged 5.4 rpg his junior year (2nd to Oriakhi's 8.7) and 4.4 for his career. Some guys get around this with hops and a pair and a nose for the ball.
For example:
C. Vital 6-2" 4.9 per game
S. Napier 6-0" 4.0 per game
R. Boatright 6-0 3.5 per game
Furphy is clearly a good athlete. Whoever says he is slow as a turtle and sluggish simply is repeating others who insist the guy is a slug. He's plenty fast, plenty well coordinated, obviously smart in basketball technique. He ain't no slouch, what could be more obvious? This is the most “wtf” commitment since Drummond
I'd put the Sun rising as slightly more obvious.Furphy is clearly a good athlete. Whoever says he is slow as a turtle and sluggish simply is repeating others who insist the guy is a slug. He meant rebound title.Barkley never won a title and gets ripped to shreds on TNT by the guys weekly because he never did.
Rodman was also the best athlete on any team he was ever on(not best player).
Rebounding is an effort category, a 6’11 guy with effort will usually, but not always beat the 6’7 guy with effort.
That’s why rebounding is a team stat, and the most important one Hurley harps on lol.
We are going to be box out machines this year, and I imagine Hurley will lose his mind a few times early this year as that culture gets molded.
I think our guards will need to be the difference this year. We need a tnew type guy getting 4-7 rebounds a game
Missed 3s have a tendency to roam far from the basket where the guards play. I'm not taking anything away from great guards who have a nose for where the ball goes, but the modern game has so many 3s that don't fall to the 5, 4, or 3 when missed.Add Kemba to that list, who at 6-1 averaged 5.4 rpg his junior year (2nd to Oriakhi's 8.7) and 4.4 for his career.
senior team is obviously missing NBA pros and other international pros that can't play during this time but still a good sign that he got called up that level at his age

For what it’s worth Kemba is nowhere near 6’1. I’ve stood directly next to him. No taller than 5’10 imoAdd Kemba to that list, who at 6-1 averaged 5.4 rpg his junior year (2nd to Oriakhi's 8.7) and 4.4 for his career.
