Look, I’m not saying the desire and technique doesn’t have a big impact on rebounding. But having positional size is also really advantageous. Newton, Castle, and Clingan had really good positional size. That is definitely a big factor in why we did so well on the boards. I think it’s also fair to question, with a smaller team this year, whether rebounding can still be a big advantage for this team. We’ve got questions to answer there.

Some guys get around this with hops and a pair and a nose for the ball.

I’m also with the group that believes rebounding is mostly about size and strength first, along with proximity to the basket when the shots go up. Looking at all time NBA rebounding and all time NCAA rebounding leaders, there’s not a guard in the top 25 of either list. John Stockton had heart and desire, yet doesn’t make the list’s top 250 despite being #5 in games played. Hunger and technique are important too, but let’s be realistic

Not a good comparison because often pros are not asked to rebound whereas at Uconn just about everybody is expected to
(including guards). If you look back from last year to the Christian Vital/ Boatright/ Napier years you will often see that they led the team many times in games.

Rodman was also the best athlete on any team he was ever on(not best player).

Rebounding is an effort category, a 6’11 guy with effort will usually, but not always beat the 6’7 guy with effort.
That’s why rebounding is a team stat, and the most important one Hurley harps on lol.

We are going to be box out machines this year, and I imagine Hurley will lose his mind a few times early this year as that culture gets molded.

I think our guards will need to be the difference this year. We need a tnew type guy getting 4-7 rebounds a game

Missed 3s have a tendency to roam far from the basket where the guards play. I'm not taking anything away from great guards who have a nose for where the ball goes, but the modern game has so many 3s that don't fall to the 5, 4, or 3 when missed.

That's an insane level of play for him. Even practices are going to toughen him up big time if he can stay for a bit

Watching Hurley on the postgame presser you can really tell he is invested and has an extremely strong connection with our current commits. Speaking highly of all 4 signees he was salivating at the incoming guards size(bigger guards), play making ability and shooting prowess. Called Reibe a “crazy weapon” and is extremely polished offensively. Monster class!

I've stood next to him a few times also. I'd go with 5-11. He was listed at 6-1.

In shoes is the measure - when I was playing Tennis there, no one cared about barefoot height measurement - it was how you would be on the court. This was told to us an an NCAA rule so it's likely cross-sports.

That's why NBA does barefoot measurements now during draft combine. The disparity in height with shoes was something else.
