I am tired of watching "big" players, other than UConn players, just move their defenders with their backside and get away with it. And depending on the ref under the basket, odds are it will be an "and one". If Jana, or Ice tries the same, offensive foul. Thank you, Dee Kantner. She also must have something against Morgan. Who else would make that call at mid court in the 4th quarter of a blowout for a player's 5th PF? Dee would (and did).
I was really worried about Lou's consecutive 3pt record while watching the 1st quarter. But if Ashlynn had done it, great for her.
I am still freaking out over that 1st quarter, ain't see anything comparable except the First Round tournament game against St. Francis (PA).

-this was the same team that was 3-16 from three against ND. School game for threes made in a game. What a treat to watch.

-Ash must have read all the wonderful tips found in Nan’s thread on her mechanics.

-In 11 games, I would guess that I have counted less than 5 times Sarah has made a bad choice on the floor. Great seeing her get hot from three.

-Crooks is a nice player, could she help UConn?

-I do think though that Ice held her own against her.

-I feel bad for Jana. Obviously busting her butt but with little to show for it. Geno must see something in practice because she continues to get minutes.

-As great as the first quarter was, the Huskies are still struggling with gaps where their defense struggles defending the three.

-BY historians, when was the last time the Huskies have three players score at least 27 in a game?
I believe that JANA ended up with 9 rebounds andfour assists = clearly
a contribution in only 19 minutes!

In all our discussions and critiques of Ash, someone mentioned that she was expending too much energy on aggressive defense and that affected her shot. Notice tonight with the defensive strategy being more on covering Crooks in the paint, only Kaitlyn was out on defensive point and Ash more in toward the basket to help out on rebounds. She expended far less energy and her shot came back - how about that!!!

That was fun!! Sarah, Paige, and Ash…..what more needs to be said? They are a dangerous, dangerous trio
The other top teams will find that out in future games. This scenario is what I have been dreaming of. I expect it to continue and the more they play, thr better they will be. I had really hoped ASHLYNN and SARAH would have hit 30 points in the game ,BUT. 30 points is in their future. GO ASHLYNN!!!! GO SARAH!!!!!

Cyclone perspective from the comfort of my midwest living room.

Sticking with a zone for so long in the first quarter was probably not the best idea.

Glad Shade kind of proved me wrong. I’ll be praying the hot shooting and confidence sticks around for USC this weekend.

Paige was silky smooth. And Strong dominated in so many different areas. I was excited for the Strong/Brown matchup but it was pretty one sided.

We’ll find success when we hit threes. It masks the lack of interior production. School record 3s made for a feel good win tonight. Worth noting Iowa State looks far worse than that preseason ranking.

Jana had nine boards to Ice's three; I think with those two, we just have to get used to looking at their combined lines... I mean a dozen points combined would be nice but we really don't need them to score, just rebound and defend.
Agree. Unlike the ND game, we clearly won the frontcourt battle tonight, and in theory I St has a stronger front court than ND with Crooks and Brown, both all big12. Crooks got her 20, but 14 of that long after game was decided. Ice and Jana as a tandem had 12 rebounds and 6 assists.

Also blazing hot shooting cures everything. Even SC of the last couple years can be beat shooting 57 59 78, as a team!

A 36 point first quarter may even allow us to hang with Tennesee.

Bring on U$C, again our front court just needs to hold their own. Even with JuJu, out back court should be fine. Our scout on JuJu also still good now as last years tourney game still fresh.

WHAT A GAME!!!! Every-one ate except poor Q. 83 points from PAIGE< ASHLYNN and SARAH. That is how the game is supposed to be played. Not as good as TENN. but 20 three pointers. It was a pleasure to watch this game and I will watch it many times before So.Cal game. I don't think ASHLYNN is nervous anymore. She and SARAH set new game highs. GOOD FOR THEM!!!! The bench got some quality time also. GO FRESHMEN!!!! GO SOPHPMORES!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!
I thought Q looked pretty good on D...aggressive in the back court, didn't mishandle the ball in some tight situ's...didn't score...ok, but better...

Crooks, unfortunately, owned Jana on the post.
Crooks reminds me of a huge center for Oklahoma years ago. Also had her almost as big sister there. All American but can't remember if she made the pros. Crooks not as athletic.

Great win! Ash got it started, and Paige and Sarah helped to close it out. It was nice to see all the 3s drop tonight, but we've got to establish some kind of a post-game. I'm waiting for Jana or Ice to be more productive. We will need it from the post when the 3s aren't dropping. I refuse to be a prisoner of the moment because it doesn't get any easier on Saturday having to deal with JuJu and Iriafen.
There were posters saying in the chat room that UConn does not need an inside game. They truly don't know basketball well. I agree with you. A team that can score inside and outside is hard to guard. UConn's outside shooting is not always accurate. I still can't understand why UConn cannot get the ball to their post as easily as Iowa State does theirs.

Did I expect us to break the century mark this point? Or to set a new school record with 20 3pt shots made? No!! But boy do I feel good right now!!

Somebody got their confidence back big time tonight and that is a huge development for this team!
I’m going to date myself but that’s ok- I have this CASSETTE somewhere and its title was appropriate tonight. The band was KISS. the year is 1989. The album title: HOT IN THE SHADE. Good description of Ashlynn tonight!

I hope every kid that has ever played any sport - male or female, any age, any level - at some point has the same amount of pure, unbridled, uncontrollable JOY as Ash had in that first quarter. That kid goes all out all the time, and it's nice to see her get rewarded by a performance like this one. First 14 points before Paige decided she didn't want to get shown up. :p

Having three legit scoring options on the floor at all times makes this team tough to beat. Now if we can only get the Ice/Jana duo to make a few layups and tip ins. Once they get USC behind them the focus of the conference schedule should be to force feed post players until they get better thru sheer repetition.

Crooks, unfortunately, owned Jana on the post.
Not completely and mostly in Q4.

I do hope Jana watches the film of Crooks. It's classic old school post work. Get position, call for the ball, catch it sure handed...and here's the secret EXPLODE in your turn to the basket!

Both Jana and Ice have the body and athleticism to do this, if they work at it.

On Crooks fouling, an old secret is if you use your hips, legs and butt to move people around, you won't get called for a foul. When it's your hands and shoulders, they call it. Charles Barkley made a career out of this.

25 years ago 3 UConn players scored 25+ according to Alexa Philippou
