In all our discussions and critiques of Ash, someone mentioned that she was expending too much energy on aggressive defense and that affected her shot. Notice tonight with the defensive strategy being more on covering Crooks in the paint, only Kaitlyn was out on defensive point and Ash more in toward the basket to help out on rebounds. She expended far less energy and her shot came back - how about that!!!
That's an interesting observation...

Don't sell yourself short. I'm sure you could understand if you wanted to. How much time do you really want to spend with the ball in Jana's hands?
So far, it looks like Geno wants Jana to focus on rebounding and scoring off putbacks. She’s been able to do a bit of this. But there are flaws to this part of her game, most notably bringing the ball down low. I expect to see some development here. Her low post moves also take too long to get a shot up. As she gets more efficient I think we’ll see more passes to her in the low post.

By the way, here’s the box score

They have got to call her for throwing the elbow before someone gets hurt!

Dee Kantner does not call elbows. Kantner was the ref closest to the play when a Texas player threw an elbow into Katie Lou’s eye and guess what? Spoiler alert: No call. Afterward, Katie Lou looked like she went a few rounds with Mike Tyson

The men played a game recently where UConn’s Solo Ball got hit in the face with an elbow and the ref called a foul on Solo. It was bizarre

Crooks is the “her” I was referring to!
Maybe it's just esthetics. Maybe that's what basketball should look like. My thought is that when post players play like fullbacks, something of the elegance of the game is sacrificed. There was a moment (and I'm not blaming Crooks) when she bulled into one of the Uconn post players to make space for a shot. 1) the post player was pretty surprised. 2) No foul. 3) But it was clearly a charge. There are some people who are saying, "We want it to look like that." And some who say, "No we don't."

Missed the game live last night.

Not much to say other than I hope they can shoot this well when playing against USC this weekend.

The foul disparity is noteworthy. Never realized Morgan fouled out of the game.

(And now in the "beating a dead horse" category please bear with me while I gripe but once again we have to suffer through Fox commentators almost having a 1 on 1 friendly conversation between the two of them about whatever one of them comes up as something to talk about except calling the game. Calling the game? What's that? Why this continues to be permitted by Fox is baffling.)

I like Bill Fennelly, he’s a class act. I appreciate his clearing his bench when Geno did. No need for a starter or key player to risk injury when the game is already decided
Fennelly is one of the coaches that needs to be admired for not only his coaching ability (He's been at it for more than a few years) but also his positive personality that he brings to his coaching style. He coaches the right way and sets a tremendous example for his young women.

18-7 foul disparity? Kantner can’t retire soon enough.
There was a recent discovery of alternate universes. I was so relieved by it because I always thought I was in a different universe that she was in when I watched our games.

I agree. Very old school. Last night all he could do was just sit there and take it. 59% from the arc is just stupid.

Crooks, unfortunately, owned Jana on the post.
Crooks is gonna do that with anyone. I was on our post players after the way they started this year, but last night they looked energetic and motivated and it wasn’t like other games they miss layups and the other teams gets all the rebounds and scores on them at will. If they play with energy and get owned by a better player, I can live with that. The effort was there last night and that’s good enough. I really hadn’t seen it before. They played hard last night. I was proud of them.

Although we out fouled them 18-7, the FT attempts were fairly even, 10-12 for Iowa State, 7-9 for us. I would be upset if the disparity of number of attempts was higher.

I can't be upset about anything last night. It doesn't take away from the history of her bizarre calls and non-calls from a bizarro universe.

Geno: "Ice played great tonight. She's not gonna get a lot of box score stuff but I thought she had a great game. Great game."
Thought the exact same thing after I was on her. She fought hard. Still missed her shots but we don’t really need that from her. Defense and rebounds I think is more important for this team. She looked very active.
