Iowa State Post Game Thread

We're at the point of giving credit to a team that lost by triple the spread?

Dumb. The point is our offense looked ugly relative to the way it has previously because Iowa State makes you look that way. Unless you thought the backcourt violations looked cool.

And we still won by 18 because we have a ton of weapons.

It's been a while since UConn held some hardware, this is just the beginning...

He got beat a couple time and we adjusted.
He got beat more than a couple of times. I’m not crapping on the guy. It’s just something the team has to game plan around, like by putting him with a rim protector (the thing they did and the part of my point you omitted). I actually think he’s held up defensively much better than expected so far this year.

Again, quality depth. It doesn't matter who is on the floor they get it done.
Diarra coming in and running the offense with Hawk and Newton on the bench with fouls.
Joey comes in and sparks a run. Yea he got torched a couple of times but he should have had some help and makes up for it in other ways.
Clingan comes in with Sanogo in foul trouble and struggling some and changes the game.
Andre was just straight obscene. His passing, rebounding and defense were absurd and he polished that up by scoring as well.
All this against a great defensive team pressuring them hard the entire game.
There is a lot of games left and much will happen that we don't like.
There is also a lot to like here early.

I hope Adama is having fun. He’s the pre-season Big East player of the year, but is being challenged for minutes by a freshman. It’s a great problem for us to have as a team, but I hope Adama can adjust to the role. Have we ever had two dominant big men on the same team?

I’d give Iowa State some credit, they make you look ugly. We just have too much.
Uconn destroyed a zone, out ran a running team and beat a team that makes you play ugly and all the games were pretty much over with 5 min left. This team has many ways to beat teams and that is going to be a problem for any team we face. We never got that quick 10-12 point run that takes about a minute but we kept chipping away and next thing you know we`re up 14 for what seemed most of the last 10 minutes of the game. At no time did this game feel like we were going to lose it just felt frustrating not being able to pull away completely while our best players were on the bench.

Last years team was good but had a lot of questions. This years team has a lot of answers.

These games are against very good, big and physical teams . But we are the team that is the "bully". You have to see Clingan is person to realize how big he is, and what a presence in the lane. Totally takes away the other teams inside games. With Sanogo , not really rotating on defense, any time we did get beat, it was a layup. Not with Clingan.
It was easily Jackson's best game, and my son made me take back any criticism I had about his offense.
Storrs, at least for today, is once again the College Basketball Capital of the World.

Nice game and this might be the deepest team we've ever had despite some guys getting their first D1 minutes. But Jackson grabbing that hand the last couple of games worries me. If it's not 100% we need to avoid making it something chronic that never gets healed completely. He's too talented to mess around with this and guys that age aren't going to back down.

Sanogo will be fine. He had an off night. Humans do that sometimes.

I wish we had a really special ballhandler. We seemed to get caught in a lot of traps. A lot of weird passes.
They were super physical up top with bumps and hacks and grabs. A lot that could have been called but these refs ended up calling stuff they could have let go. A really strange game by the officials. They called softies while letting guys get mugged.

Was just looking at some stats, wow I didn't realize Karaban was in for 38mins tonight! Kid has some stamina.
He’s vital with Samson out and Springs not ready for prime time, although I might have tried him tonight.

I'm putting you down for YES. So good we give credit for losing by triple the spread.

Lot of things went right this weekend.

Today our defensive was close to perfect. Also, there's no reason Clingan needs to play 2 years of college ball. Dude has the physical gifts and he knows everything he needs to know. All he needs is another 6 months following whatever workout routine he's currently following.

Yeah he had to play the whole game because Jackson had to play the 3 pretty much full-time, because Hawkins was mostly not available and Alleyne was a liability. And this was a game where Karaban couldn't really get hurt on D because their 4s weren't threats or overwhelmingly athletic.

This team plays D like Calhoun teams played D. Giving up nothing, challenging every shot. Think of the lockdown Butler got in the championship game. That kind o D.

Thatll win championships.
