Some thoughts on the Iowa game:
  • Evina did a nice job of settling down the youngsters early on, and once again delivered a little bit of everything with 15 pts, 9 rbs, 10 ast, 2 stl & 2 blocks.
  • Aaliyah runs the court like a freight train, and she is fast becoming “Tuck 2.0” in the low post.
  • Christyn really came to play today. She was spectacular putting up 27 pts. As Geno stated during the BE tournament, “When Christyn plays like that, we are a championship team.”
  • Paige had her own stat-stuffing game with 18 pts, 9 rbs, & 8 ast,
  • Liv with a big game on the boards leading the Huskies with 11 rebounds and also added 7 assists.
  • UConn did a good job of neutralizing Clark in the first half, but that left a lot of open looks for the rest of the Hawkeyes. In the second half, Clark was hitting contested shots from the cheap seats, although the Huskies picked it up again in the 4th qtr.
  • Somehow Anna snuck into the game and hit a monster 3 and then another that was icing on the cake.
  • This was a great basketball game between 2 really talented and well coached teams. Going to soak this one in for a few days before I start worrying about the Elite 8 matchup vs ?
  • Someone said the line moved up to -17.5 at game time?

Just woah!!

Kinda blown away. I thought the MOV would be 20+, but Iowa made a big run in Q3 and fought all the way to the end. Their 3 point shooting was incredible. HOW did they lose 10 games this season (including today)???

Both Evina and Paige almost with triple-doubles. Hell of a game by all our juniors. Paige had a couple bad decisions early in Q4 - hesitating on taking a shot, bad passes, and then BAM. Seemed like she said to herself "no more fooling around" LOL.

CW was the POG in my opinion. Her defense on Clark was awesome in the first half. Not as good in the 2nd half, but still, just awesome. And her offense was spectacular. I'm stunned at some of the high degree of difficulty shots she made (layups), when in the past, she's missed a plethora of bunnies. Hopefully a good omen for her going forward.

Liya was a monster and unstoppable. Who said we don't have post players? ONO with only 4 points, but 11 boards, 7 assists, and 2 steals. I absolutely LOVE seeing Liya and Liv on the floor together. I'm not sure what that means for Nika going forward, but Liya and Liv are just too much for teams to handle.

Anna - woohoo! Drained a pair of 3's, and as the game got close for a minute or so, Geno had the confidence to leave her on the floor in crunch time. So happy for her!!

Just a tremendous team effort. And incredibly proud of the team. Iowa is really good. But UCONN was better from start to finish. Oh, and we did all of this without starter Nika Muhl. 15th straight elite 8. OMG.

UConn has much more talent than Iowa. We all knew that before the game. Iowa hung in there for a while. UConn dominated on the boards.

The much ballyhooed Paige vs. Caitlin showdown didn't materialize. Both didn't shoot real well. Williams, Edwards, and Westbrook were all great for UConn. Warnock had a good game for Iowa, but down the stretch she couldn't stop turning the ball over.

UConn 92-72, Great win, just great 4Q.
CW 27, Paige 18, 9 rebs, 8 asts, AE 18, Evina 17 and Anna 2 three in big time

Clark is great but Paige is super.
And Paige is on a superior all around team.

Iowa is still good though, just doesn’t have the defense or rebounding for big games like this

Clark and Paige have bright futures. It’s been a pleasure to watch such high level of play among freshmen

Great team effort
With respect to the movie
“Field of Dreams”
There is a new answer for the question “Is this heaven?”
The answer is “No, It’s UCONN”.

What a terrific game. Iowa kept knockin down shots and UConn kept knockin down shots. UConns defense is for real folks .Edwards was a monster. All of a sudden Edwards is gonna draw alot of attention for the rest of the tournament. She scores she can pass and she is an AA. We are gonna be a very tuff out. These kids came through again time and again when Iowa made a run. Hey were young. OMG are we good and we're only gonna get better. Im so-ooooo excited about this group and the next 2 classes comin in.
