I just watched a replay of the final play

All you need to do is go to the Cuse board and see their 3 page thread on this issue. The majority thought it was a very clear foul and some thought it was actually intentional.

FWIW, Scoe is a 70% FT shooter this year and 78% last year so its hardly a formality that he would miss one.

DVR'd the game and watched the last play multiple times and I hate to tell you guys that Roscoe was not fouled. His violent fallback was his own doing. The defender had his left hand on his back for a moment and used his right hand to swat the ball away as Smith was falling back. But I don't know what you guys are seeing when you describe this mugging. Smith had a hell of a game but he had to pass to Drummond right there. he must not have seen him.

And I was rooting as hard as anyone for UConn for anyone thinking for a second I'm a Cuse fan in disguise. My vulgarities were knocking the roof off the house for much of the game. It seems like without a veteran leader we're too prone to these huge runs that cost us a lot of these games. There's no calming veteran presence and our offense just goes into shutdown mode with sloppy turnovers.

Not sure what replay you're looking at. On my replay I see a grand grab and pull.

He was 3-6 in the game.

Roscoe played great, he just shouldn't have been the guy trying to make the final play, anyone of the 3 guards.

Too bad they didn't get a good final look

Roscoe is money on jump shots inside the paint.

Wasn't the ball on the rim too for Melos tip in? And I'm pretty sure Fair shuffled his feet before the shot

I watched the replay too, hence I started this thread.

Google the call, every article calls it a foul and even Cuse fans think it was a foul

there will always be exceptions. In this case, very very very few exceptions from either fan base or the media

Fair intentionally hacked and literally grabbed Smith, not sure how that's missed. Like I said, they're always exceptions

I also watched the replay pause by pause. Fair's foul was intentional after he was beaten. First he grabbbed/hacked Smith's arm several times to make sure he didn't get a shot off...THAT was the foul that first should have been called. Secondly, when Smith did attempt attempt to shoot falling backward he was fouled from behind again, probably not as blatant as the first foul. It was the arm grabbing/hacking that did not allow Smith to pass or to take a good shot... and it was an intentional foul by Cuse (and a smart play). The foul should have been called period.

live, I saw the shuffle and thought it was a goal-tend. Didn't think Smith was fouled.

When I returned home to watch the replays, I saw the shuffle but I don't think Melo goaltended

Didn't even look at the very last play closely until I came on this board and saw so many people complaining about the no call. Went back to the video again and I couldn't believe my eyes.

WOW, that's all I can say, WOW

Fair definitely walked, after looking again at the putback again looked like it came off..........

Roscoe had a strong game, but should have not been on the floor in that situation. As much as I hate to admit it, Cuse executed great strategy by covering Lamb and left Smith open. They gambled that he would not be a threat and unfortunately he proved that.

they gambled, Fair was beaten and then choose to mug Roscoe. If you want to argue they knew a foul wouldn't be called, then I may concur

Roscoe was fouled by my view, but I'm not upset at the no-call. I am more upset at the 17 point lead we spotted them, which creating the purpose for this discussion.

But we also thought CJ Fair got fouled on the play before, too...we were lucky to have Melo clean up the weakside rebound and put it back in.

Drummond's arms were straight up, Fair initiated contact, and actually traveled before any contact even occurred.

I would not blame the loss on that one play at the end. Frequently refs were swallow the whistle there. This was nowhere near as awful as Marquette where the most brainless calls in history were made (no logic to them whatsoever).

I didn't DVR the game and have to take your word for it (travel)...but I agree the whistle often gets swallowed the last 10 secs. It was an awesome game with two polar opposite halves. Pretty sure we'll see Round 3 in NYC. Good luck till then.

I'm with you. The listlessness with which they play for long stretches is amazing. It's the most pronounced area, to me, where they miss Calhoun. They sleepwalk for large portions of these games. Syracuse is a good (very good) offensive team, but against a defense that's indifferent it's not hard to look good. I feel like I could have gotten to the rim against that defense last night.

they did hack Roscoe, Fair was actually intentionally fouling Smith

disgusting

As Roscoe was 50% from that was exactly the smart thing for 'cuse to do: foul him hard, make sure that he doesn't get a shot off and take your chances at the line. I'm sure that Boeheim was as surprised as anyone that no foul was called.

It usually gets swallowed on close plays, which I don't have a problem with. That one wasn't close - it was a foul.

Sportscenter has been showing this play close up and in slow motion today. I wasn't sure how much of a foul it was before, but after seeing that, it's clearly a foul. He was hacked and taken down from behind, no question. The commentator even said "Isn't that a foul? Isn't UConn at home?"

thank you

One of our guards DID make a play. Lamb had the ball and two Syracuse guys came out to guard him and make sure that he didn't beat them with a three. So Lamb threaded the needle into Roscoe wide open at the foul line. Great read, great pass. Perhaps Roscoe should have taken the initial 15 footer, but I don't have a huge issue with going to the rim. He got the defense to react and had he been able to get a shot off there (i.e. no fouling from Fair), Drummond would have had a better chance at a tip-in. Had Roscoe shot the 15-footer, Drummond would have been boxed out.

Fair did everything he could to make the foul obvious - not his fault that the refs chose to ignore it.
