Elbow above your shoulder is normally a flagrant 1 at the minimum, it was a foul regardless of what the crew said. They were mistaken.

Wow! From that angle, it sure looks like a foul. I am not faulting the refs (don’t know how they see half of what’s going on). But Lou was sliding over, and whoever on TX stepped down into the lane to cut off penetration, arm moving back. What a shot. Don’t know the rules enough to know whether it is incidental contact.

Replay shown during the game was from behind the basket, not over mid court as the one posted here. From behind the basket, it looked like the elbow was out there already and Lou didn't see it, but walked right into it. From this angle, it looks like the elbow went swinging back...whether she knew Lou was there or not is up for speculation.
On the replay #31 for Texas starts at the FT line and takes 2 steps back, with elbow high, and hits Lou. I dont think she did it intentionally but it was a foul that at least should have been looked at by the officials. Lou didnt walk into #31.
Ummm... not to be argumentative in the least... but it must not have been a foul since of course it wasn't called a foul by the only people involved in the game with the authority to make such a call... just sayin'. maybe they didn't see it? maybe they thought it was a "no call"... MY Point was simply to explain that the replay shown during the game was from a different angle that did not definitively show the impact and movement of the elbow. If it weren't for the black/blue/swollen eye, SOME on this board would have said Lou was doing a "flop" had she gotten the foul called... again... just sayin'.Doesn’t matter. Many fouls are inadvertent but fouls nevertheless. That was a foul no matter what the talking heads thought.

Even Rebecca blamed her. Bad B.I didn't see it real time but after that replay it seemed to clearly be a foul by the rules. Not intentional but a foul nontheless.
If Lou run into the kid's elbow her face would be forward to the kid, not be hit and faced backward. On the replay #31 for Texas starts at the FT line and takes 2 steps back, with elbow high, and hits Lou. Biff, Biff, Biff.
I only saw the 2nd and 3rd quarter. Is this what Geno was barking about before the 2nd half started?
Intent doesn't matter. If you hit someone in the eye with an elbow, the call goes against you.
I agree 100%. I was just stating how the ESPN crew, especially Kara, was adamant that it was Lou's fault.
She knows the line too

Apparently she managed to walk/run into the elbow or forearm. She has the knack. Gonna be a beaut tomorrow.

Lou and some of her teammates look too happy. They should read this board and that'll be cured.
The Refs should have stopped the game and looked at the replay, since Lou had to leave the game.
After watching the replay I think it was the other way around
30 to 60 point wins by UCONN Women's Basketball, HAVE and WILL continue to have, a built-in reaction, especially with TV networks, other teams, referees seeking to accomplish the RIGHT or BEST way to call a game. Seeking to "be nice" to the poor underdogs is
now rampant and understandable. PROBLEM is that rugby, hockey, wrestling have NO place in the sport of basketball. A little sympathy and seeking more competitive, close games, is nice, HOWEVER that turns into allowing grabbing, holding, blocking, charging, slapping, etc. Not being as quick, in as good condition, as athletic and more (all do to GOOD OLD HARD WORK) is negated for other objectives, mentioned above.
Mom has been to plenty games, Dad gets the air time. When Lou was in HS one parent was at every game while the other was at a Stanford game. They also have two dogs now and someone has to take care of them. Karlie was overseas and Bonnie is in Med school and doesnt get a lot of time off to travel. I think they were all at the FF last year in Dallas. How come only Katie Lou's dad attends the games? Doesn't the rest of the family want to come see her play?
Not true at all. Lots of times players are moving their arms in a normal legal fashion and happen to contact someone who is moving. Frequently no foul should be called.
When I was playing pickup ball in my early twenties, a guy ripped off half my cornea. Hurt like a .... It healed very nicely, by the way. The eyes are amazing. Anyway, afterwards, when playing pickup ball, I would always wear goggles. I was often made fun of, but then I would kick their butts and that was that. To me it's surprising that more injuries of the kind that happened to me don't occur and that more players don't wear goggles. If this keeps up, perhaps she'll have to resort to wearing "goggles" like Kareem and James Worthy did.
The injury to her eye (depth perception) may have been the reason she missed those 2 free throws late in the game. Not making excuses, just saying maybe.

Yet in the last minute Asure extended her arm to prevent a pass and barely made any contact if any FOULElbow above the shoulder is not "legal."
