Hines commits!!

If our team next year is:
Silas
Solo
Braylon
Khamenia
Hines

Wilkins
Landrew
Ross
Stewart
Any 5

That team is stacked. That team is also a bunch of guys I really like, just looking at it from afar. That team has a lot of shot making, some shot creation, some excellent athleticism and defensive potential ... I'd be VERY excited with a portal haul of Wilkins, Khamenia, Hines and a backup big.
I doubt we are getting Wilkins if Mullins stays. Wilkins visited when Hines did and we haven't heard anything.

There is zero chance this roster happens.

Talk about pipe dream - people need to realize great players want to start and/or get paid. They are coming to UConn for the journey.

Hines was 65-70 coming out of HS - not a ton of big offers, but Sampson/Houston did offer him - totally fits the Houston profile as a dog.

Wonder if he’ll wear the headband at UConn?

Love this, I think he’s gonna be an absolute stud in our system.

For better or worse, has the distinction of being Hurley’s first portal player from within the Big East. And from Sha. Sure there were some mixed emotions in this recruit.

Sign ‘O the times.
My take on the intra league player movements, is that one a kid has declared he is transferring, his wishes need to be respected. What happened if Hines wanted to come to UConn but wasn’t “allowed to” because of some coaching friendship. That said, it’s quite a different story if a player has not declared for the portal and tampering/poaching is going on.

Couldn't have asked for a better Taris replacement. He's obviously not as offensively skilled as Tarris, but an even trade or level up on other things.
I bet Hines' offensive development progresses quickly. Remember Tarris year 1, he really got going as we got into the Championship season. I think Hines is more aggressive, which should bring him along quicker, as long as he has the aptitude. I am a bit concerned about spelling Hines' first name, but I'll get it! @uconn_jack still can't spell Tarris correctly!!(all the time, gets partial credit, 50%)

True, but I don't see him being the kind of center that Sanago and Reed are offensively with the kind of footwork they had. Doesn't mean he won't score on brute force alone.
Yeah, he certainly doesn't have the post game either of those 2 but he brings better defense and rebounding than them.

He also didn't have the talent surrounding him like UConn does.

Hines is an impressive athlete and UConn seems proficient at coaching up the position.

Not trying to compare him to Emeka directly (that would be unfair) but in terms of his shot blocking instincts (positioning, timing, etc) specifically I think he is the best shot blocker we've had since Okafor. Absolutely elite in that regard. His film is awesome to watch.

So happy we landed this dude. Welcome Najai!

-2pts on Adama last name spelling. Jack, we are going to get you into a remedial Husky Hoopster spelling class!

Just hand that team the trophy right now but i think it’s a pipe dream

I hate the Portal/NIL stuff from a purist standpoint, but boy it is pretty damn exciting if you are US!! Watch your team being built in 2 weeks.

Congrats to Hines!

However, I haven't been too up to date about the transfer portal lately, so I apologize for asking but is Hines any good? I wish him the best of luck and will always root for my Huskies, but according to ESPN, he averaged 6.5 and 5.5. Does anyone who watched Seton Hall this year (I was unfortunately working both of those days) know more about him or if he will be a good C? I'm kind of worried we downgraded from Reibe to Hines but really hope to be wrong.

I want a beast of a center that will grab every rebound, fly in for dunks, play lockdown D, and stretch out for the midrange/3.

Not looking forward to the many misspellings of his first name. At least his last name is pretty easy. Although we'll find a few posters who will mess that up. 😀
