Hey Dan….. (merged threads)

I think Hurley still tends to react to the opponents coaching, even when he has the best team and the best weapons. He didn't effectively use his bench today, which is our strength.

We look sluggish late in the game
The question has always been what will Dan Hurley do in a tight game, hostile environment, and the refs against you. This is a new year and we need to see a new Hurley. That was an awful T at an awful time. We could've won this one or kept it close and maybe sneak it in the end.
This is the kind of atmosphere were gonna face in March and Hurley has to lead by example. That's how upsets happen in the Dance. Dumb T's ain't gonna cut it.

And a lineup up Clingan and Sanogo would have fixed that? Are you high?
Cool off dude. Nobody recommended a Clingan Sanogo lineup. More Clingan would have been nice. Also think we can all agree that you miss a player like Johnson in a game like this

Hurley announced to the world that his feelings are more important than UConn winning.

Y’all wouldn’t say half the things in person but Hurley stinks but he’s our coach
We’re 14-1 and have been dominating the entire season. Shut up please. This is the boneyard at its absolute worst. We are terrible losers

They played horrible team defense and looked flat. They played soft all game content playing from the perimeter and never really driving or putting pressure on attacking the driving lanes and rim.

They made it very easy for Xavier to not foul and not get to the free throw line

Newton was completely out of sync and Hurley didn’t want to make a change. Befuddling coaching by Hurley today. Thought he had grown and adjusted this year but reverted back to his deficiencies from prior years

.-.
You can’t win with your C- game (coaching included) on the road against a good team as the #2 team in the country. Learn from it and move on.

Definitely can't get a T there but I'd love to know what actually happened. The real reason we lost is because we just didn't shoot well. Got a lot of open looks that we didn't hit. Xavier also got away with a lot more on defense than we did. Refs took us out of our game on that end of the floor. Guessing that's why Hurley was frustrated.

He’s done this countless times. In an intense game he gifted them points. Just like Andre needs to learn, so does Dan. The moments seem too big for him a lot. Its not a good look
For all intensive purposes that T didn’t lose the game for us. It was the overall difference at the stripe. And we had that cold game from outside that we said would cause our chances of losing to a good team to increase. No outside allowed the size of x fronts guys to shroud adama. Let’s not act like x does not posses a very good and experienced front line.

didn’t say that did I?

Clingan needed more time on the floor for defense purposes. End of story.
If you think Clingan's defense would have changed this, I don't know what to tell you. And I like Clingan.

In games like this you have to play Sanogo.

Many mea culpas from me today. I love our starting 5, but other than AJ, they weren’t great today. Probably need more subs to wear down an X team without much depth. Oh well, Happy New Year to all!

.-.
We talk about our depth all the time, Hurley talks about it all the time. Yet we keep in Karaban and Newton who were total negatives, and Adama wasn’t a ton better regardless of stats. Just doesn’t make sense.

I don’t care that Andre made some 3s. This kid should NEVER take 12 3s in a game.

Also we don’t get free throws because we don’t go to the rim guys. It’s simple. Xavier does, and they got calls.

Y’all still believe in Hurley ??

Hurley's T just can't happen. It was awful.
His not using the team's greatest asset, it's depth, was just as awful.

Karaban and Sanogo couldn't guard anyone and somehow Sanogo plays 33 minutes and Clingan plays 7, then Hurley loses is composure with the game on the line and the team follows his lead losing their composure. I hoped Hurley was beyond this stuff at this point, he was outcoached today which would be easier to accept (Miller is a really good coach) if he didn't blow our chances with the tech.

A loss on the road to a really good X team is fine but I hate the way it happened and it makes me a bit nervous.

Also, we need Samson back. Karaban needs more rest overall and some matchups are just bad for him, today was a terrible matchup for him and Hurley left him out there to get abused. X was the fresher team which should never be the case with our depth.

There are other factors with the T. The crowd gets super into it. And they get free points. Pushing it to a 6 point game lost the game. The coach getting a T with 2 minutes left is a terrible look.

Yes on both points....can't get a T in that game at that point....total screw up.

And mix up the line ups...Diarra & Alleyne needed mins in the last 10 mins.

You said would a better set of refs called it. Yes, because other refs have and he has the reputation. Refs know he does stuff like this.
We'll just disagree about this. There are no facts either of us can bring to back this up.

.-.
The fact is they did just as Nova did. Make us take 30 plus threes. Make sure Hawkins and Joey ain’t the ones taking them. The rest are not great shooters.

We have no one who can take it to the rim. That is our downfall this year.

He embarrassed himself tonight. We all knew this was going to be a tough game. Blowing your lineup management and getting a T at the worst possible time is a disgrace.

He's been much, much better this year so far. I think a loud away game in a hostile environment just made him forget all the stuff he changed about his coaching this off-season.

He'll be better next time. Coaches need to improve just like players--it's all a part of the game.
A+ post. Nice to see an even handed post out here after a loss. They are 14-1. Did anyone think they would have that record at this point?

Dan and everyone else will learn from this loss. There is a lot to dissect from it. No one in their right mind had this game as a sure W for the Huskies. If they go back to the drawing board over the next few days, as I suspect they will, they will be ready to face an equally tough Providence on Wednesday.

Perhaps the Refs are never giving us any respect because Danny screams that they are clowns on national TV? We win that game if its evenly called - things like Xavier player hopping on one foot in front of a ref is an obvious travel.
