Kim has a history of bringing in a key transfer at guard season after season. Chloe Jackson in 2019 and Alexis Morris this past season are just two examples. Hailey Van Lith would be a perfect fit at LSU. Unless Betts wants to leave the west coach, UCLA has to be the odds on favorite.

For me its pretty simple when talking about UConn and who would be interested in coming. UConn is preseason number 1 with the best backcourt in the country and it aint even close. With Aaliyah Edwards an AA and everybody Geno has on the roster and coming it I would think that if Betts truly wants to win a NC she will come. Lets face it if UConn is healthy and stays healthy they have so many weapons inside and out its gonna be pretty hard to lose a game let alone a NC. I think they could go undefeated and if Paige plays another year maybe 2 years undefeated.

Now with that said we dont know who Geno has coming in over the next couple of years as he referred to in his comments. Does he have Koval and/or Vucosa in the wings both 6'4 out of NY or manybe the 6'6 girl from Portugal or Forurnier from Canada and if he does how will that effect their decision coming to UConn if Betts is already here. Remember Betts did not get much playtime at Stanford and I wouldve thought at 6'7 Tara wouldve found her time. So why didnt she play? Then theres the question of how much playtime does Betts want and can she earn it at UConn. We have bigs in Edwards Deberry Ice Brady and El Alvy who have paid there dues. If Betts comes what happens with them????? UConn has a great roster with 2 generational guards. They are the favorite to win it all. I say dont mess anything up now. We have everything it takes with depth. Bringing in another player could cause problems and that player may not be what some think. You cant teach height I know however height without fundamentals at UConns level is not what we need.

Actually, Morris was brought in for 2021-22. She did bring in Jasmine Carson from WVU one year ago, I believe.

Hailey Van Lith is a no at LSU and most likely will end up back in the Northwest where her parents will be able to see her play some.

While I agree that Betts would fill in a height depth problem, I worry about chemistry. If we offer her, it will only be after a team meeting, much thought, and another team meeting to discuss the current players thoughts. As to what we have we can only look at concrete, signed players. AE is a given post starter. AG has proven herself but is 6'1" and cant be expected to bang inside for 30+ minutes. AP has shown flashes of greatness but at times shows she's still figuring things out. Ice has looked marvelous in HS film but has not seen a lick of playing time in college, while we can say the same with JEA. As to AD, for a 5 star McD AA, she has not but for rare flashes looked like she grasps the game at this level. Her post skills are lacking so putting her as a possible #5 is a BIG stretch. Bett's effectiveness for minutes played is sky high. Seeming how she was only getting 10 minutes at Stanford. Brink has two more years (including Covid year) and is making bank with the NIL, and can make over 3 million in the next two years in college. With the minutes distribution at Stanford (and Betts does not have a Covid year option) Betts might be seeing 10-20 minutes max over the next two years as a real possibility. If she came to UConn, she could start off with 20+ as a starter, then should AE leave after next year get a 30+ minute starting role. Plus the best odds chance of getting at least two championship rings.

You've got a better chance of playing at UConn next season than Van Lith does. ;)

I can see Hailey Van Lith going to Mulkeyville. With Mikaylah Williams coming in, they will
have plenty of talent and be tough.

With Hailey Van Lith, 'closer to home' can in some ways be answered simply by any Pac12 team - generally 4 games in the NW each year, plus quicker trips to 4 more in California if playing in front of family is a consideration. Add in west coast OOC which is pretty standard for Pac12 teams and it creates a lot of games even if they are 'road games.' So people should expand the high interest schools beyond the WA on OR teams. And I suspect that is what Hailey Van Lith is looking at. (And while Stanford doesn't generally take undergrad transfers, Hailey Van Lith is applying for grad school.)

With Betts ... who knows what she is looking for. The assumption is that it is all about minutes, but I go back to the fact her recruitment was an exercise in remote contact under covid restrictions. It may be personality clashes, campus life, and any other life issues are as big or bigger than the actual court time in her mind.

And Morrow is the forgotten name here and speculation has pretty much disappeared with Hailey Van Lith/LB's announcements. In terms of what she brings to a team in terms of size, scoring, and experience, she might be the most impactful in next season.

Guessing Hailey Van Lith goes to LSU, she would pair up well with Mulkey in terms of personalities.
Betts will go where she can get 30 mpg, so ND.
In any ordinary time, I wouldn't mind either one of them coming here (or both), but our roster is going to be STACKED next year, playing time will be at a premium. Not saying we don't need 'em, but... we don't need 'em.
GO HUSKIES!
Somehow, I do not see these two personalities "pairing up well". There is
another post on the Boneyard where the Louisville H.C. says something to
the effect that he feels Hailey made a good decision and that she
would be " playing closer to home" !!! Did he slip and reveal something or
what?? Sounds more like a western transfer connection to me!! Time to
wait and see!

Why would Hailey Van Lith come (or be wanted to come) to UConn? I don’t get it. She’s not a need and is not some all world player who is going to start over Azzi or Paige. I’m not putting her down but come on, she’s just not a need for us! I think we’re better off standing pat and getting Strong, Koval and/or Tac. As for Betts, I don’t think we are favored by Mom and that likely ends it.

I agree that Hailey Van Lith to UConn sounds very odd, because we have a crowded backcourt and she might not even start, however:

-Hailey Van Lith used to be very close with Paige and may still be.

-Hailey Van Lith dreamed about playing at UConn for 10-12 years of her life.

-Hailey Van Lith may want a championship.

A year ago, we picked up Lou as an insurance policy, and she became one of our most important players. Hailey Van Lith is not coming from Fairfield, and her importance may be reduced, but is she ok with that? I think it’s unlikely, but not impossible.

I beginning to come around to the concept of " leave the roster alone", for team chemistry and playing time.
That said... IF ... Lauren Betts is ready for a " Sophomore Leap", and Geno sees that coming??, she would be
with UCONN for THREE productive years. The "bigs" on our roster IMO all can/could also play #4, so giving
one year to Aaliyah, of course, won't there be enough time (in years at UCONN) to work out the
successful development of most everyone ?? ( I assume the weakest of the others, unfortunately becomes
a minor contributor / insurance team member ).

Not sure I agree with the sentiment of UConn having best backcourt and it not even being close! Any backcourt with Caitlin Clark has a strong case to make as do others. While I agree UCONN has the potential to become that, they have much to prove coming off injuries and trying to regain peak performance. I hope they do achieve that, but it is premature IMO to make that definitive of a claim.

Betts started following a couple of UCLA assistant coaches on Instagram yesterday. Didn't notice that she started any other coaches.
Followed Iowa Asst Coach Harmon, never mind that she went to same HS as Iowa player OGrady.

You mean one player can tip the scales against more than two shifts of excellent guards, one of whom was the POY in her freshman year? As for injury recoveries, this is not the dark ages of medicine: Breanna Stewart, Kevin Durant to name two who have come back from serious knee injuries undiminished, and are you not seeing Klay Thompson rounding into his all-star form after being out for almost two years? Fudd? She did show her top form at the beginning of the year before she got injured again. If they are healthy, they will be in form at high level.....only question is, can they stay healthy? Without backcourt depth, UConn would have been dead in the water this year; their backcourt would have more quality depth and experience next year and, there must be situational room athletic, sharpshooting freshmen who are unlikely to see much action if the upperclassmen stay healthy.

This UConn backcourt can also play defense .......and which team limited Clark to her lowest point total this past season? Certainly not the vaunted defense of South Carolina.

What backcourt in the country is comparable with Paige, Azzi, Nika, Ducharme, KK Arnold and Ashlyn Shade? Truly asking as the only one that is potentially close that I see is UCLA and UConn's is still better by a pretty wide margin. You mention Iowa with Caitlyn Clark but I do not believe her supporting backcourt mates are comparable to anyone else on UConn, even if Paige doesn't return to her peak.

The question to me would be which schools add who from the portal that could potentially compete with UConns back court and if UConn players can stay healthy. But if we were to get a full season from Paige and Azzi...I don't think there is a team in the country with comparable backcourt.

Technically, Rutgers held Caitlin to her lowest point total which was 15 points. She only played 1/2 the game because it was a blowout. Maryland held Caitlin to 18 points towards the end of the season when Iowa was blown out. UConn held Caitlin to 25 points.

I wonder if the Longhorns will take notice of TCU maybe competing for in state recruits now. Better coach.

2021-2 season she played 7 mins/game. Not saying that Hailey Van Lith would go there, but she obviously takes her education seriously, and if she got into a business grad program there it would be possible as opposed to a Jr/Sr transferring which reportedly the University frowns on. Northwestern is obviously an academic powerhouse, a reputation that Louisville does not have.

I do think based on 'do not contact' from Hailey Van Lith and Jeff's comment about 'home' the Pac12 schools in aggregate make the most sense as her destination. And there are a lot of good schools and good teams to choose from in that conference.

I mean the TWO who are coming off significant injuries and have much to prove, and as I said I hope they do. We are not talking about past performance, we are talking about future. Agree it is not the dark ages of medicine, but when players are coming back from multiple injuries, the odds are a little longer. I just struggle to understand why some UConn fans have to proclaim our greatness, and in absolute terms, BEFORE the games are played. Not sure why we can’t just enjoy the ride. These
players have enough pressure already!

But she played the full game against UConn, all of 40 minutes.....with likely with great motivation because it is UConn with a healthy Azzi (never mind that Paige was on the bench). If you do points per minute, what happens? - never mind the motivation part. Played only 21 min against Rutgers.....did score 18 in 36 min 2nd game against Maryland (big 28-pt blowout loss) after an Iowa blowout over Maryland where she scored 42 in 39 min in their 14-pt win....in the Big Ten tournament, she did 22 in 37 min for a 5-pt win.....UConn limited her in the first half, she did recover later (give her credit instead of suggesting that UConn defense let up).

Not sure how that's possible considering Schaefer's history and track record. Maybe in time, but Campbell has only been a HC for 2+ years. Until he can replicate some of the tournament success Schaefer has, I don't know how you can compare the two.
