Betts is from Colorado perhaps she ends up at Utah her and Allisa would be dynamic! I hope she comes to UConn but holding my breath.

Hailey is definitely going to LSU she reminds me of a young Kim that played a Louisiana Tech but Hailey can shoot way better than Kim!

Guessing Hailey Van Lith goes to LSU, she would pair up well with Mulkey in terms of personalities.
Betts will go where she can get 30 mpg, so ND.
In any ordinary time, I wouldn't mind either one of them coming here (or both), but our roster is going to be STACKED next year, playing time will be at a premium. Not saying we don't need 'em, but... we don't need 'em.
GO HUSKIES!

Why would Hailey Van Lith come (or be wanted to come) to UConn? I don’t get it. She’s not a need and is not some all world player who is going to start over Azzi or Paige. I’m not putting her down but come on, she’s just not a need for us! I think we’re better off standing pat and getting Strong, Koval and/or Tac. As for Betts, I don’t think we are favored by Mom and that likely ends it.

LB = UCLA first choice. She stays on the
West coast and has all the playing
time she wants on an improving
team.
Notre Dame second choice. Lots
of playing time on a top team.
Plays under a coach that her
mother approves of.
UConn third choice. Lots of playing
time possible but not assured.
Could maximize NIL at the
traveling "circus".
Best chance (imo) for a national
championship (quite possibly
multiples)
Hailey Van Lith = LSU - That's were the attention is,
at the moment.

This is what I get and I don't see anyone from UConn on her list.

Good analysis. One thing you described fairly is that Betts has the possibility of lots of playing time, but not assured. Taking that point further she could easily get 30 minutes a game here too. The question would be who is the best choice at C, Lauren, Ice or Jana?

Lauren is the highest rated out of HS, number 1 in her class, just like Paige and Azzi, she has one year of experience in a top program the other two don't have, and her per minute numbers when she played were outstanding, and at a level that would be very unlikely for Ice or Jana to achieve in their first year. In addition, her experience at Stanford included playing against Brinks and lots of other very good bigs in practice.

My point is if she did come here, she would be the heavy favorite to start, despite her competition being highly rated themselves. If she does start, 30 minutes is then more probable than possible given Geno's tendencies for short rotations. In that scenario Ice and Jana would be fighting for the backup minutes and the loser probably wouldn't get more than mop up minutes unless they were used some at the 4.

I agree that big minutes are pretty much guaranteed at a couple of the other top choices, and I will go a little further than your point that it is possible here as well to say it is actually probable here. Not certain but she would be the clear favorite to start and if she achieves that, the NIL and championship points you mention are advantages for us vs. the competition.

Kim has a history of bringing in a key transfer at guard season after season. Chloe Jackson in 2019 and Alexis Morris this past season are just two examples. Hailey Van Lith would be a perfect fit at LSU. Unless Betts wants to leave the west coach, UCLA has to be the odds on favorite.

For me its pretty simple when talking about UConn and who would be interested in coming. UConn is preseason number 1 with the best backcourt in the country and it aint even close. With Aaliyah Edwards an AA and everybody Geno has on the roster and coming it I would think that if Betts truly wants to win a NC she will come. Lets face it if UConn is healthy and stays healthy they have so many weapons inside and out its gonna be pretty hard to lose a game let alone a NC. I think they could go undefeated and if Paige plays another year maybe 2 years undefeated.

Now with that said we dont know who Geno has coming in over the next couple of years as he referred to in his comments. Does he have Koval and/or Vucosa in the wings both 6'4 out of NY or manybe the 6'6 girl from Portugal or Forurnier from Canada and if he does how will that effect their decision coming to UConn if Betts is already here. Remember Betts did not get much playtime at Stanford and I wouldve thought at 6'7 Tara wouldve found her time. So why didnt she play? Then theres the question of how much playtime does Betts want and can she earn it at UConn. We have bigs in Edwards Deberry Ice Brady and El Alvy who have paid there dues. If Betts comes what happens with them????? UConn has a great roster with 2 generational guards. They are the favorite to win it all. I say dont mess anything up now. We have everything it takes with depth. Bringing in another player could cause problems and that player may not be what some think. You cant teach height I know however height without fundamentals at UConns level is not what we need.

Actually, Morris was brought in for 2021-22. She did bring in Jasmine Carson from WVU one year ago, I believe.

Hailey Van Lith is a no at LSU and most likely will end up back in the Northwest where her parents will be able to see her play some.

While I agree that Betts would fill in a height depth problem, I worry about chemistry. If we offer her, it will only be after a team meeting, much thought, and another team meeting to discuss the current players thoughts. As to what we have we can only look at concrete, signed players. AE is a given post starter. AG has proven herself but is 6'1" and cant be expected to bang inside for 30+ minutes. AP has shown flashes of greatness but at times shows she's still figuring things out. Ice has looked marvelous in HS film but has not seen a lick of playing time in college, while we can say the same with JEA. As to AD, for a 5 star McD AA, she has not but for rare flashes looked like she grasps the game at this level. Her post skills are lacking so putting her as a possible #5 is a BIG stretch. Bett's effectiveness for minutes played is sky high. Seeming how she was only getting 10 minutes at Stanford. Brink has two more years (including Covid year) and is making bank with the NIL, and can make over 3 million in the next two years in college. With the minutes distribution at Stanford (and Betts does not have a Covid year option) Betts might be seeing 10-20 minutes max over the next two years as a real possibility. If she came to UConn, she could start off with 20+ as a starter, then should AE leave after next year get a 30+ minute starting role. Plus the best odds chance of getting at least two championship rings.

I can see Hailey Van Lith going to Mulkeyville. With Mikaylah Williams coming in, they will
have plenty of talent and be tough.

With Hailey Van Lith, 'closer to home' can in some ways be answered simply by any Pac12 team - generally 4 games in the NW each year, plus quicker trips to 4 more in California if playing in front of family is a consideration. Add in west coast OOC which is pretty standard for Pac12 teams and it creates a lot of games even if they are 'road games.' So people should expand the high interest schools beyond the WA on OR teams. And I suspect that is what Hailey Van Lith is looking at. (And while Stanford doesn't generally take undergrad transfers, Hailey Van Lith is applying for grad school.)

With Betts ... who knows what she is looking for. The assumption is that it is all about minutes, but I go back to the fact her recruitment was an exercise in remote contact under covid restrictions. It may be personality clashes, campus life, and any other life issues are as big or bigger than the actual court time in her mind.

And Morrow is the forgotten name here and speculation has pretty much disappeared with Hailey Van Lith/LB's announcements. In terms of what she brings to a team in terms of size, scoring, and experience, she might be the most impactful in next season.

Somehow, I do not see these two personalities "pairing up well". There is
another post on the Boneyard where the Louisville H.C. says something to
the effect that he feels Hailey made a good decision and that she
would be " playing closer to home" !!! Did he slip and reveal something or
what?? Sounds more like a western transfer connection to me!! Time to
wait and see!
