In what way has Q struggled. Just curious
I like Q and she’s trying really hard. But as someone who prides herself on her shooting, she’s last on the team at 30/18/33. In addition, on a team that leads the nation in A/TO ratio with a remarkable 2.02, Q is last on the team at 0.3 A/TO.

Q is also last in mpg at 7.5. While I fully understand that the only way to truly improve is to get more PT, I need to point out that Allie used to be last in mpg. But Allie forced Geno to give her more PT by her performance on the court.

Once again, I would love to see Q get out of purgatory. But Paige & Aubrey will be back soon and during the 2nd half of the season Geno’s rotation will be all about getting UConn ready for March, so I’m not sure there is sufficient time for Q to redeem herself.

I would expect her to get more than 18 mins, esp when Ice is out, if Geno were happy with her play.
Not in shape yet to play hard and play 30 minutes. She has a high motor and she has some things to figure out still. Considering what we saw earlier this year, I would think Geno is ok with what he saw yesterday.

Was at the game. I think Georgetown played really well defensively. They were physical, but not a lot of grabbing or unnecessary body banging. UConn did a good job or keeping the floor spaced and moving without the ball. Didn't see a lot of standing around. I thought on the whole the team looked pretty good, and I think Georgetown is going to make some noise in conference. They just seem to be offensively challenged relying on Ransom and Hession to score most of their points. They did run some nice offense early with picks and good passing to get open shots, but UConn adjusted and made it more difficult for them after the first quarter.

Was kind of bummed to see the arena staff moving the kids seeking autographs off the floor after the game. Instead they had to wait outside in the cold for the team to come out from the back of the building where their bus was waiting. We were sitting in the parking garage waiting to get out and when the team came out you could hear the kids screaming. Sounded like a concert crowd! Not sure how long they made themselves available for autographs, etc.

Q is not making her shot when it is available, her defense is erratic, she can get 5 fouls called against her in 9 minutes, and she only occasionally is part of a really good play. That is struggling. But she looks like a great potential BB player.

What were they trying to determine? I couldn't turn the volume up. I was watching the game during a meeting.
They were trying to determine if Jana had fouled the Hoya player, in the face. But there was no foul on the play.

Just think, Q won FOW before either KK or Shade. I hope she gets her game together.

2 things:
a. KK had a mud range pull up in the game. Good to see some variety to her shot selection. I love that she hit a 3 third game in a row,
b. I started watching the game when it was 16-10 to Georgetown so I'm not taking credit for the turnaround, but you are welcome :)

I was at the game. It was definitely a pro-UConn crowd - there were even a couple of UConn cheers in the arena. Biggest cheers were for hometown girl, Azzi.

Slow start and not a good Q1, especially on defense. Things improved in the Q2 and after halftime. Azzi and Sarah carried the team, with significant contributions from Ash, KK, Morgan and Jana.

Those of us in the arena had no clue what was taking so long with that review. The refs would look at the monitor, huddle up, look at the monitor some more. It didn't seem like they knew what they wanted to do.

Nice to see Aubrey participating in warmups. Can't wait to see her on the court.
Don't you love that you pay for a ticket to be at the game and they don't show you anything from the replay?

Agree, Q comes closest to being an Aubrey clone (i.e. she can do some things that nobody else can do, in terms of court mobility, and quickness to the ball in rebounding stray shots ) so with Aubrey's return, she will have to wait till next year, and continue to develop those skills towards being a future Aubrey with a better outside shot than Aubrey ,

Oh I don't know, maybe like fouling out in 5 minutes of playing time
Coaches told her to be more aggressive on defense.

She will now be forever a UConn legend.

We've had years where the end of the bench was a walk on, a project, an out of favor player and even no one-an empty seat. Q can play, it's just tough at UConn where everyone is a top recruit to get playing time.

It only gets harder to find minutes as Ice, Paige and Aubrey return.

No! if you had been there at the beginning, UConn would not have fallen behind at all.

Two of her fouls were charges, both of which where she recklessly drove into multiple players trying to make a layup.
She's trying way too hard to make an impression on the coaching staff, and as a result is playing with reckless abandon. That's going to keep her on the end of the bench. I feel sorry for her. She can no longer make the 3 pt. shot and she's playing as if she has given up.

I think initially, they were looking to see if it was a flagrant foul. After looking, the realized Ransom got hit by her own player. Then they had to figure out how to change the call

Funny that is what I always told my kids ("play with reckless abandon") before a big game (particularly when we were the underdog). If there is such a thing as 'controlled reckless abandon' that is what is needed. For now, Aubrey comes closest to that. But, make no mistake, when you are playing an uber athletic team like South Carolina or a few other likely final four candidates, it will be visually evident that only Aubrey and Q (not that she will necessarily be playing) can match the raw athleticism. Lets try to give Q enough time and encouragement to realize whatever potential she has. I'd hate to have to play against her if she realizes her potential

KK, Sarah, Paige, Azzi can't match the raw athleticism of South Carolina's starters? Beg to differ.

Sorry, that goes against the grain for me. I understand your point of view to a (small) degree, but this is D1 level basketball. Aubrey plays with aggression, but it's usually controlled and hardly ever reckless. That is not the style Q is currently displaying. I have absolutely nothing against her and hope she can be successful (and I've said nothing otherwise), but my experience and common sense tells me she won't be playing out of control and/or just going through the motions.

Q doesn’t resemble Aubrey at all to me. I don’t blame anyone for the comparison; because I think even Geno may have gone there once. But I don’t see it. She is a gunner. She wants to shoot the ball. That’s how she wants to impact the game. Aubrey is someone we wish would shoot it more.

Even from an athleticism standpoint. They are just different to me.

The NC State game feels like a lifetime ago to me. It was interesting though that Geno inserted her into the game in the third quarter. Was it because it was a homecoming game? Was he hoping to see something? Maybe he wanted some shooting on the floor? Maybe she got that opportunity because ice was out? I do wonder what his motive was.

It was hilarious to watch the refs try and justify the original foul call. They spent more time reviewing and huddling than they do in an end-of game call to decide the winner. I've seen other reviews for a possible flagrant when it was clear that no foul occurred and yet the refs let it stand to protect themselves. Calling it an inadvertent whistle was a step up from normal.

UConn doesn't play very good defense in the half court if the team they are playing wants to shoot from distance. They sag heavily into the lane area and are often out of position to get back to their perimeter responsibiity which results in open three looks. Georgetown hit them early and didn't late and that was a big difference.

I payed specific attention to Morgan in this game when I watched it back and she really is a heady player. She gets to the right spot on rebounds, she sees the floor steps ahead of where they are live and makes the right reads. She does pass on way too many open looks but I think once she does that she will be a permanent fixure on the floor.

They do need Paige though when they play any team that is above average. Paige brings a calm to the team that the others don't possess and she also plays chess out these while others are playing checkers. People who think she won't be the number one pick don't evaluate talent the same way a scout will.

I'm beginning to wonder if the 3pt defense is something Geno is accepting to protect Jana/Ice in the paint.... I say that because it is god awful and it's not like him to just let something like that go but he minimizes it in interviews at each game and doesn't even react much to a made 3 during the game.... it's strange.

Agreed! Protect the "BIGS". IMHO this is the reason for giving
MORGAN her extra minutes. If BOTH Jana and Ice get too
many early fouls then Geno needs Morgan to do extra duty
in the middle (even if Morgan gets hit with some fouls due
to Size and inexperience). Geno may need one or both of
his BIGS in the 4th Quarter. This is another reason that
I mourn the loss of YANNA Patterson = a very strong
body, with demonstrated leaping ability for rebounding
and overall defense.... Yanna is also quicker than many of
us believe, again my opinion.
