What were they trying to determine? I couldn't turn the volume up. I was watching the game during a meeting.

I think initially, they were looking to see if it was a flagrant foul. After looking, the realized Ransom got hit by her own player. Then they had to figure out how to change the call

She's trying way too hard to make an impression on the coaching staff, and as a result is playing with reckless abandon. That's going to keep her on the end of the bench. I feel sorry for her. She can no longer make the 3 pt. shot and she's playing as if she has given up.
Funny that is what I always told my kids ("play with reckless abandon") before a big game (particularly when we were the underdog). If there is such a thing as 'controlled reckless abandon' that is what is needed. For now, Aubrey comes closest to that. But, make no mistake, when you are playing an uber athletic team like South Carolina or a few other likely final four candidates, it will be visually evident that only Aubrey and Q (not that she will necessarily be playing) can match the raw athleticism. Lets try to give Q enough time and encouragement to realize whatever potential she has. I'd hate to have to play against her if she realizes her potential

KK, Sarah, Paige, Azzi can't match the raw athleticism of South Carolina's starters? Beg to differ.

Sorry, that goes against the grain for me. I understand your point of view to a (small) degree, but this is D1 level basketball. Aubrey plays with aggression, but it's usually controlled and hardly ever reckless. That is not the style Q is currently displaying. I have absolutely nothing against her and hope she can be successful (and I've said nothing otherwise), but my experience and common sense tells me she won't be playing out of control and/or just going through the motions.

Q doesn’t resemble Aubrey at all to me. I don’t blame anyone for the comparison; because I think even Geno may have gone there once. But I don’t see it. She is a gunner. She wants to shoot the ball. That’s how she wants to impact the game. Aubrey is someone we wish would shoot it more.

Even from an athleticism standpoint. They are just different to me.

The NC State game feels like a lifetime ago to me. It was interesting though that Geno inserted her into the game in the third quarter. Was it because it was a homecoming game? Was he hoping to see something? Maybe he wanted some shooting on the floor? Maybe she got that opportunity because ice was out? I do wonder what his motive was.

They were trying to determine if Jana had fouled the Hoya player, in the face. But there was no foul on the play.

It was hilarious to watch the refs try and justify the original foul call. They spent more time reviewing and huddling than they do in an end-of game call to decide the winner. I've seen other reviews for a possible flagrant when it was clear that no foul occurred and yet the refs let it stand to protect themselves. Calling it an inadvertent whistle was a step up from normal.

.-.
UConn doesn't play very good defense in the half court if the team they are playing wants to shoot from distance. They sag heavily into the lane area and are often out of position to get back to their perimeter responsibiity which results in open three looks. Georgetown hit them early and didn't late and that was a big difference.

I payed specific attention to Morgan in this game when I watched it back and she really is a heady player. She gets to the right spot on rebounds, she sees the floor steps ahead of where they are live and makes the right reads. She does pass on way too many open looks but I think once she does that she will be a permanent fixure on the floor.

They do need Paige though when they play any team that is above average. Paige brings a calm to the team that the others don't possess and she also plays chess out these while others are playing checkers. People who think she won't be the number one pick don't evaluate talent the same way a scout will.

I'm beginning to wonder if the 3pt defense is something Geno is accepting to protect Jana/Ice in the paint.... I say that because it is god awful and it's not like him to just let something like that go but he minimizes it in interviews at each game and doesn't even react much to a made 3 during the game.... it's strange.

Agreed! Protect the "BIGS". IMHO this is the reason for giving
MORGAN her extra minutes. If BOTH Jana and Ice get too
many early fouls then Geno needs Morgan to do extra duty
in the middle (even if Morgan gets hit with some fouls due
to Size and inexperience). Geno may need one or both of
his BIGS in the 4th Quarter. This is another reason that
I mourn the loss of YANNA Patterson = a very strong
body, with demonstrated leaping ability for rebounding
and overall defense.... Yanna is also quicker than many of
us believe, again my opinion.

Don't you love that you pay for a ticket to be at the game and they don't show you anything from the replay?
There used to be a Big East rule about showing replays to the crowd during games. Decades ago. I don’t know if it’s still in force
