Gampel Roof Renovation

Not according to MJ...

hahahhahah one of my favorite quotes ever.

Speaking of funny quotes, I was reading a Mike D'Antoni article and he had a quote from Cory Brewer that had me bust out laughing:

Early this season, Brewer, who was traded to the Lakers in late February, took a pass on the baseline, drove, spun, shook two defenders with a 360 and missed a point-blank shot at the rim. "Coach, I did my thing," he told D'Antoni, "but then I got to the rim and just ran out of talent."

"Ran out of talent," D'Antoni repeats. "Best line in the history of basketball."

Maybe that's what happened with Phil's 450 spin move.

For those of you not on twitter, the Gampel roof is finally being fixed. Saw somewhere that it should take about 1 month.

There must be some alternative to panels. They never worked out and you would think the architects could come up with a better system for $10MM.

Probably none that will come with a warranty though. One of the vids medic posted talked about going with original installation materials it comes with a warranty. I wanna say 10 years but i might be light.

Uconnstruction back at it again. Talks about Gampel a bit and the work being done.

The $10 million in repairs involve dislodging each panel from the ceiling, lowering it to the ground, replacing the covering and insulation, and then raising it again for reinstallation. On the exterior, the roof will have a new and safer access system for workers to reach it when needed, and will be resealed to prevent leaks.

Just imagine the care needed to lower all of those ceramic tiles knowing that each one is irreplaceable. That is pressure, folks.

What about the sh_t colored ones?

This is the part I don't get. I was always lead to understand that these are Patoni ceramic "tiles". Yet when I watch the close-up videos of the proposed fixes, all I see is an aluminum outer skeleton, with fabric over insulating material on the interior. They are basically just covering them up, right?

Somewhat correct. The Patoni tiles are insulated by the material that's falling off. Don't think of "tiles" in the traditional sense. This is a true Italian innovation.

Not only does it look bad, but it's opening up the elements to havoc on the craftsmanship.
