Cant believe this has not been mentioned.

University of California oh I mean South Carolina President Bob Caslen resigned Wed. He had vote of support from Coach Staley but none from other Athletic Dept officials after her "mucked" up the Graduation Ceremony on Mothers day past. He was the former Commandant of Westpoint and a retired 3 Star General. He resigned after it was found that he plagiarized the commencement address from Gen. Mcraven (sp?) Tx Graduation speech in 2014.

I have no beef with Caslen as a person.. and I think his record of service to this country has been remarkable. But Caslen was never a fit for the University of South Carolina. Still to this day, I think what really doomed Caslen from the start was the entire process of how McMaster rammed him into position. That obvious political maneuver still leaves a horrible taste in my mouth and the mouths of many other alums, including most of our prominent donors. One of our most prominent donors recently publicly admonished the university in a way that I've never seen. This all stings even more because SC also no longer has a provost, who many believe should've been the president. That former provost was recently announced as the new president at LSU, and I have no doubt he's going to do great things for them.

All in all, I love the University of South Carolina.. but this Caslen situation is a prime example of why politics have no place in higher education and why it's ridiculous to allow a school's BOT to operate with very little oversight from alumni, faculty, and current students.. they must be made to answer to somebody. I like to think South Carolina has learned from this situation, but knowing my home state and my alma mater.. it's highly unlikely. Expect McMaster to have his hands all over university affairs to appease "he who must not be named" once again.

NO!!! They got cited for a violation on the arranged visit to ESPN. ..personally..I think UT got po'd when UConn started coming in their backyard for recruiting.

Actually it was a tour that was available to the public. It wasn’t a “stunt.” And the complaint had a lot of nonsense and fiction in it.

Is this an attempt to revise history? You admitted a violation. All due respect, why are you denying this?

God forbid if he trys to install Nick Mulvaney. The thing that needs to happen is to reform how the BOT is picked. Nikki Haley started the severe politicalization when she booted Darla Moore off the board. No way the Governor should have two votes. No way people not affiliated with University should be placed on the board imo.

Clemson does not have these issues because their board is sll Clemson and not picked by the legislature.

Not denying anything. But the original post referred to Geno pulling an "ESPN stunt." What actually occurred is that UTenn filed a kitchen sink complaint against UConn where almost all of it was fiction. The only violation was that a staff person from UConn called ESPN to get Maya on a tour that was available to the public. If Maya had made the call there would have been no violation.

I haven't denied anything. But the violation was at the lowest level. Just trying to put the "stunt" in context. Clarifying history, not denying it.

I agree with everything posted here. The Board should be entirely made of alums (people that we KNOW are going to want the best for the University because they are degree holders) and we need to take all elements of politics OUT of the framework. I know USC is the flagship, but it's interesting Clemson got away with no legislative involvement in how their university is operated.. especially when you take into consideration how the school was founded.

Even if they did take her on a tour of ESPN, that's a really minor violation.

It's hard to believe folks were so fired up about it.
They (Tennessee) were upset that their hold on dominance was/had faded. It was that simple. UConn still lives rent free in their heads. Lol

Imagine how they feel now.

It's unfortunate that Raven didn't make the U19 team, but it's a GREAT sign that Sania DID make it. My opinion only, but the 4 is where we need somebody different and she might be one that can pull defenders out of the paint to open it up for our 2 great posts. I really think Raven getting cut is because there were so many PGs ahead of her who had college experience. Hopefully some of those will move up and she'll have a better chance next year. Look forward to watching Feagin perform against great competition.

Tennessee files 16 frivolous violations and UConn accepted a secondary violation, with no penalty, for the 17th charge against UConn regarding the Maya Moore recruitment. The charge was that a basketball staffer called espn and got Maya and her mother scheduled for a tour open to the public. The NCAA defines a secondary violation as one that is inadvertent in nature or doesn't represent a significant competitive advantage. This is the same level violation that UConn received when Geno congratulated a 12 year old Philadelphia girl for pitching in the Little League World series. This violation came from an unknown SEC team.

What about this that happened in Columbia per "The State":
Among other sports, the three-time SEC women’s basketball champions reported four infractions. One involved a player getting transportation, meals and lodging while not eligible to play. The school declared the player ineligible and made to donate costs of the impermissible benefit to charity.

The NCAA imposed additional penalties for one women’s basketball violation after an assistant coach texted a 2019 prospect with the same first name as a current player they intended to text. The NCAA banned South Carolina from electronically corresponding with that prospect for two weeks.

So are you guys running a dirty program down there?

This is going to sound really nitpicky.. but ESPN tours are not open to the general public. You can't just drive to Bristol, pull up to the visitor's center and request a tour. You have to know somebody that works there. If Maya received a tour from a personal family friend, that's not a benefit. If she received that tour from a family friend of a UConn staffer then it's absolutely a benefit. Tours are for friends and families of employees and occasionally civic groups.. but ESPN decides the civic groups that they want to give tours. I know this because I worked there, in Bristol, for 4 years and I was one of those employees that gave tours occasionally. ESPN doesn't hire tour guides.. employees that work there give the tours.

That said, I don't think it's a big deal at all. And I seriously doubt Maya chose UConn because Storrs is close to Bristol.

thanks for the clarification

#60 (out of 60) on ESPNW’s ‘23 rankings. Offer has more significance due to her current teammate at Trenton Catholic who is ranked #18, Aalyah Del Rosario.

not even a gamecocks fan but am excited for their season this yr, a lot of credit also to the SEC Network for the hype they give not just them but the conference as a whole
One thing the SEC does is they give women’s sports a chance to be seen. The SEC network is widely available and they show just about every single game in WBB, WSOC, VB, SB and even beach VB. There is no blackout that I know of. I live is SC and can very seldom EVER get ACC coverage from their channel because it is BLACKED OUT all the time. Any of you ACC folks know why?

lol it's worse with the Pac 12, I used to have Dish but they are just so bad with service and other channel availability and now Directv alltho is prob the best satelittle out there unfortunately has no Pac 12 network.

The Pac-12 actually shows more women's sports than any of the conference networks. I don't bother with satellite or cable. I go with OTT (Sling, in my case, but Fubo also has it). Have never missed a game (from any school) unless I wanted to and I pay less.
Even better, anything not aired on TV is streamed for free. If you are a fan of women's sports, there's not a better conference for that.

yea but it just sucks that live in California and it's not offered, similar to the dodgers in LA until the pandemic hit and they finally caved giving it to Directv but if you don't have Spectrum or Directv you as an La viewer don't get the dodgers just silly to me how all these local teams make it hard for fans to watch them

Raven Johnson Gatorade POY for Georgia. Saniya Rivers for NC.

2022 Gamecock offeree, Talaysia Cooper, won for SC. Offeree KK Arnold won it for Wisconsin.

I really like Cooper but I thought Fulwiley had the better year, especially playing against better competition.
