I get Fawn as COY, but would not have been upset if one of the newcomers got it

I would have. You work your butt off to get to #1, then people think your job's too easy. Kind of like saying Aliyah shouldn't be POY because she is surrounded by All-Americans. Isn't coaching a combination of recruiting, development, managing the roster and X&O's? Nobody did that better than Dawn. I rest my case. ;)

And she has her team 27-1 against the toughest schedule in the country. Everyone is casually glossing over that fact.

I don't care what needs to happen. The committee will find a way to get UConn to Bridgeport. Either way, it doesn't matter.. we're going to need to go through one of Stanford or UConn for the title, perhaps even both. I'm sure of it. Bring it.

Yep. Before the season started:

"How is Dawn going to give minutes to all those players?? I bet several will transfer. The lockerroom will be terrible all season long with unhappy former McDs. It's going to be a huge headache all season long...."

Now:

"Dawn shouldn't get the COY and Boston shouldn't get POY because of all that talent on the roster all season...."

It's like they are trying so hard, searching for something.......

And how weak the SEC ended up being, IMO.

LSU and UF finishing so high is not a sign of strength.

(That UConn ended up having the transfer was sort of ironic given the epic concern trolling)

While I kind of agree with you, I believe the SEC has a pretty good record against OOC competition...Big XII challenge, etc. LSU is senior laden with a great coach. Its not too surprising that they ended up #2.

If anything, I believe the conference is basically where we expected at the beginning of the season -- SC #1 and a hodgepodge of teams below them.

“It’s hard to beat a good team three times in one season’l

Let’s remember that maxim from our days in the old ACC tournament.

Is Old Miss a good team, well they played us tough til the 4th quarter of our last game. (Austin was a beast.) I expect the same this time because our gals are gonna have much fresher legs in the fourth quarter. Nevertheless, this is a huge opportunity and the motivation factor is definitely on the Rebels’ side.

In the big picture it doesn’t matter if we win or lose. Focus gals. Focus!

Go Gamecocks!

Ole Miss played well this season. Shakria Austin is NICE!! The handles, the footwork, and the speed. She is going to be a handful at the pro level. Of course it depends on the team that she goes to and the coaching style. But she is, like you said, a beast! Coach Yo is putting a nice product together at Ole Miss.

She has done a great job getting Austin and surrounding her with some solid transfers from the portal. Ole Miss is a far cry from their previous teams.

Hoping we got the sloppy out of our system in that 4th quarter. Always seems like every team has that one slopfest of a game, or portion thereof, in post-season play but that 4th quarter was ugly. Ole Miss gave us everything they had and then some. Happy to get the W and move on to tomorrow.

UK began their game on fire with the heat set on scorching but Tennessee is absolutely not going away without one helluva fight.

People definitely say it, but the team that won the first two has a pretty darn strong record overall across sports.

Austin will be a great pro.

Not sure what happens to Ole Miss in her absence. She's a huge part of their success this year.

Actually that isn't a prerequisite for media outlets should they decide they want to run with any "South Carolina is (fill in the blank)" narrative.
When some declared UConn's dominance was bad for the sport was during the run of National Championships, multiple.

I understand what you're saying. I'm just saying with the media, their narrative, focus and viewpoints change with the wind. They've certainly vilified our fan base at points bc we are aggressively outspoken in defending our coach, our girls and our program as a whole. I guess that makes us bullies in their eyes depending on what day of the week it is. At other points in time they praise our fan base for the same behaviors they previously presented in a negative light. Just an example of what I mean with the pre-req observation. Whatever the flavor of the day is, that's what they run with.

I'm here too...just spent the night processing the loss. I think everyone knows that the Gamecocks are vulnerable. Over the season we have been able to mitigate the deficiencies from our bad offensive performances with excellent defense. That didn't happen last night. This team is still missing a Kiki Herbert Harrigan type of offensive playmaker. I was watching Indiana perform after our game and kept on thinking that we need a player like Grace Berger to get to that next level on offense. As someone else stated, we need versatility on offense. We have a lot of playmakers with the same skill sets. I don't think we can expect Brea Beal to be that, so hopefully the freshmen can develop in the off-season and bring us some versatility off the bench next season. We're just going to have to hang out hat on tough defense and productive bigs... and hope that is enough to meet our goals...
